I Bought a New Tool Chest!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A little irony here, since I hate the concept of unboxing videos. Why you've clicked on it to watch me open stuff I spent money on I'll never know. In any case, in an effort to still be helpful.... There is a useful bit to this video since--if you catch it before Home Depot updates their pricing--you can save a good $400 on a massive tool chest combo! If you're curious, this is the 56 inch tool chest from Milwaukee, available as just the bottom cabinet in the video, or with a top tool chest--making for a whole bunch of tool storage room! I'm very pleased.

i bought this exact tool chest 12/2019, the box it great except two things ive dealt with. 1- the locking mechanism doesnt fair to well in cold environments. the drawers sometimes wont open after locking it up. i dont need to lock mine at its location, so for me no biggie. also with the cold, the drawers do not want slide closed on their own but on the warmer days its not an issue. 2- the height on the big socket drawer on the bottom box is not tall enough for most deep socket, wish they had made that drawer about 1" taller. i had to just put my deep sockets in the hutch up top. something that milwaukee needs to work on is access to replacement parts and accessories. i want to buy another power strip so i can put one on the opposite side of the hutch. from what ive read online its not easy getting replacement parts and or items warrantied. just wanted to add that for the price point you cant go wrong with these tool chests. ive been trying to find another topbox with a damaged lid or something so i can cut the top off and stack it and im also grabbing the side locker asap. i see you never posted an update video, maybe give us tour one day soon of the new set up

Couldn't agree more on the depth of the drawers. I have a heated garage, so I'm not worried about the locks (also it's attached to my house, so I don't really lock it to begin with). Being able to store my sockets was a problem though. I had to cut the top of my socket rails off so I could close the drawer (I have plastic ones that identify the sizes), and it's the same story with the wrenches. I can't put them in a tray or the drawer won't close on the larger sizes. A 7/8 wrench in a tray at an angle simply won't fit. Other than that, no complaints. It's a great tool box!

I laughed when the socket went with the lag screw.

You'd be surprised how often that happens. Technically, I was using a 3/8 impact and should have been using an impact socket to go with it....

Haha I enjoyed every minute and nothing holds my interest more than an intelligent purchase, I'll be testing my luck on the split order discount from here on to eternity far and wide. I love the power tool draw and the long wide spanner draw too, I have been named a professional shopper by some in the past but I fully trust your research, only one question did you compare the HF Icon line ? My situation is very similar to yours and a new chest was on my mind to solve this.

I did check, but the pricing on those is substantially higher for a similar box. I think the bottom cabinet of a 56 incher is over $2,000. Even the US General boxes are more pricey for the same size. I can't speak to the durability as I have only had the box for a few weeks, but the initial quality is good. I believe these are made in the same factory as the Husky boxes, though some components like drawer slides look like they've been upgraded. I also was happy to have 4 casters rather than 6 as some boxes have. You can always swap casters, but there always seems to be a set of fixed casters in the center and swivel casters on the corners. That makes it hard to put the box against a wall since you can't "parallel park" it as easily as if it had the fixed casters on one of the ends. Just something to look for.

@@midwestmotoring Brilliant news thank you. I've been seeing the 6 castor and never thought about that and it's a issue I know very well, l have a welding cart that's near on bloody easier to fetch a floor jack to park it due to over casting haha, if that's a word. I think I'm also gonna try is a "Peg Board" a metal one right behind a work bench, I don't know why but I could just never bring myself to do it, it always reminded me of the guys who buy a tool kit from Ikea only because they thought they had too have a Peg Board lol no dis respect to them lol each to there own but not having to search through draws after navigating what ever death trap I have laid on the floor for myself to get to the other side of the garage would be a pleasure. I think also having your best tools looking like they need to be taken by your guests lol might have been a factor too. Haha Peg Board with a curtain is the answer I think and maybe one day progress to an electric blind.

@@SP-mp9yi I hear you with the peg board. I like a clean look myself, so it's drawers for me. Also, most of what I do in my garage generates a lot of grease and dust, so having everything put away makes it easier to clean. That said, it seems like any workbench or tool chest you buy nowadays comes with the silly metal pegboard. I put a couple cheap screwdrivers on mine just so I didn't feel like I was wasting the space. Actually, it DOES work well for holding frequent-use items. I also put a couple Mag Lights by my workbench.

@@midwestmotoring I think I like the thought of my wrench's lined out in perfect order no searching and easy to see if ones missed placed but the dust could be an issue for me too.

It comes out to be 300 cheaper than the 46 combo as well

It's definitely not as good as my friend's SnapOn box, but then again it's also like 1/10 the cost.
