here in australia diesel 80, 100/105, and 200 series are really common. i didn't know the 80 in the states only had a petrol option

mate, i Still remember driving my first 1HDT 80 series home for the first time, never forget that excited like a school kid feeling. Looking forward to watching this. I ended up rebuilding the whole engine, turbo, diesel pump and injectors at one point after a cracked head. Number 1 favorite thing I installed on the 1HDT was a water to air inter-cooler and upped the boost to 15 psi i think with the stock rebuilt turbo, and reground the diesel pump boost pin by hand, made a massive difference in acceleration.
