My first RR was a 2011 L322. I absolutely loved that truck. I had it for 3 years, babied it and traded it in on a new one. One of the things I really loved about the interior was the piping on the seats. It added that certain class look . On my fifth RR now. Like you I love the brand.
Hi Matt. Must admit - if I lived back in the UK, I would be banging on your door to buy this. As you might recall from previous comments, I live in Qatar and own both a 2008 4.4 V8 LR3 HSE and a 2012 5.0 V8 Supercharged Sport. Love them both. I couldn't agree more about keeping a budget aside for looking after them - I set aside a notional QR 2000-00 (about 400 GBP) a month for non-service repairs - most months neither of them need anything but then when they do, I am not losing sleep over repair costs. And I only use a specialist independent LR service chap who actually knows how to look after these cars. At the end of the day, even if they are 'good value' second hand, they were still expensive cars new and they remain expensive cars to service and repair. This needs to be remembered. Great video on a great vehicle.

Did you say you set 400GBP aside every month??? You can pay a mortgage with that cash. I Guess I can't afford that much on just a car. Lovely car though, It must drive like a dream
@sportster883able

@@javigar133 Hi there - thats what I keep aside as a 'monthly budget' for both the LR3 and RR Sport - that's not what I actually spend every month. And thats for 2no cars. Yes - I guess it does sound a lot if you consider it, but then if I don't spend anything for 6 or 7 months or longer, then the budget doesn't get used and I am no worse (and indeed better) off. Look at it another way - I could quite easily spend that amount of money (and way more) every month financing the purchase of a newer car of similar type (how much is finance on a new/newer Range Rover?) or use my savings to simply pay outright both of which would cost me money. The money I have budgeted to spend but haven't spent sits in an interest bearing account and I have 2no nicer older Land/Range Rovers that I enjoy without financial burden.

@@coops1964 Morning and thanks for taking the time to reply. Answers to you suggestions are a) arguably mad according to my wife; b) not wealthy by Qatar standards c) while my LR3 and RRS may have air suspension and relatively big V8 engines (by some standards), they are definitely NOT vans!! Perhaps you have never driven either - if you had you would realise this. However, by comparison to other 4x4s here in Qatar (Land Cruiser 5.7 V8, Mercedes G63, Ford Raptors, Chevy Tahoe, etc.) 4.4 V8 and 5.0 V8 are not particularly big and with petrol at the equivalent of 45p/litre it doesnt matter that much anyway. Ohh - by the way - we also own a Ford Expedition with a 5.4 V8 too.

@@sportster883able I follow your logic, I won't ever buy a brand new car due to criminal depreciation, but budgeting 400GBP per month just for potential repairs is, maddening to me. I agree there is something special about Rangel Rovers, I should test one, but there is this brand, Lexus, that offers a superb driving experience without breaking the bank on repair bills. Matter of taste, prioritise and, of course, disposable income I guess

Completely agree on selling it. I sold a RRS tdv8 I tried my best not to sell it to a guy that had come out of a lease car. It was cheap and I said beware that at any point it could need something. After 30 years of Landrover / Range Rover ownership it’s always great to see that you’re an enthusiast and do what’s necessary to save the car and get it working as it should. I’m always put right off a vehicle if a seller, including LR main dealers, who do the absolute minimum, even trying to sell them with mixed tyres. The interior looked good on that one, I’ve seen quite a few L322s with well worn controls which never gives a good impression. I’ve just had to buy a rear light for my L405 (wife borrowed car…) £330 online and around £600 from the dealer. Never cheap. Keep up the good work!
I wasn't sure if you were going down the cheap brushup option or the fully restore and make it a mint example and glad you went for option 2. Looks great Matt. Also suprised that a cheap 10 year old range rover was cheap due to bodywork neglect rather than serious mechanical issues, seems like a role reversal 😂
Loved it - Great adventure saving what was and now still is a wonderful machine.
Before the spruce up, it really was as good as you could ask for it to be at that price. After the spruce up it's 💯👌🏻 Great looking car, and still a bargain for the sensible, realistic buyer.

Your advice of keeping an extra 4k when buying a used Land Rover was the best thing ever. After purchasing my 2013 Freelander 2 I had to spent money on these things: cambelt and clutch replacement, 2 door locks failed, boot lock failed and a full service. It wasn't cheap but at least I was prepared. Anyway, whenever I drive the car I forget about maintenance as I cannot imagine driving something else. They are the best cars ever!

Agreed.....In the UK the difference between trade and retail prices are significant....That is partly to allow for typical costs to prep to remail standard. Unfortunately there are wide variations as to what prep work is done by some traders. Excellent advice, Matt. And, right off the bat, whoever buys it will need to get a 2nd key for it. Can't imagine that'll be cheap. Even on non-luxury cars from non-luxury brands, that's very pricey. Just peace of mind, really. One key, anything happens to it, you're screwed.
@sarcastixx74
Жыл бұрын
Good point, but one way of getting a genuine replacement for next to nothing is check the insurance policy. A lot of insurers include key cover as part of a comprehensive policy or for an extra fee (usual quite small, under 20 quid or so). Claiming on that should not burst a NCB either. It is a bit cheeky and depends where you sit on the morals of it. but as the car would've originally had 2 then as the new owner you could say it is definitely lost! I've never done it myself but i always knew it was available on any policies I've had. I made my own for my old E46 M3 a few years ago by ordering a new style blank fob/blade and using a cheap Ak90+ programmer to extract the cars data from the immobiliser unit and write it to the new one. Saved near 200 quid by not paying BMW to ship one from germany. Couldn't believe how easy the whole process was.
