Change the gearbox oil , I didn’t on mine and it lasted 86k miles, 1 new box later I changed the oil each year and that box lasted 140k miles, I’m on my 3rd gearbox now. Car has done 235k miles all done by me . I bought the car new in 2002 and still drive it every day and drive it through France and down into Spain every year for the last 15 years. Great car that I look after and it looks after me , I will never sell it , it’s worth nothing but everything to me . 21 years of ownership 👏👏👏👏

Hi Greg, great review :) I have similar experience with a 2007 3.6 that I bought on 180 000 miles last June. I've done 6500 miles and I do not regret as it is a very comfortable family car. I had only one issue so far, I had to change an antifreeze hose. The car is great for its aftermarket price. All repair and upgrade videos are welcome :)

Great review, I don't agree with traveling low miles but hey! each to his own. I am 59 years old and owned may cars in my lifetime. I own my 4th Range Rover, it is a 2011 4.4 L322 se vogue. In my opinion there is no better car in the world! I wouldn't think twice about touring the world in this car. I do wish I had kept my 1998 p38 2.5 ltr diesel. Still miss it.....

ANY car over 100k miles will have 'issues' . People love driving their Range Rovers so put a lot of miles on them. That said RR's should carry a scanner like other cars carry a spare wheel.

I did my first ever KZread clip today. At 3 seconds long, I kid you not, it is terrible! I’ll start with what I loved about your video. It’s hard to be natural in front of a camera, and once you were sat in the driver’s seat, you were absolutely brilliant. The 2 bits that weren’t so linear, were the different camera orientations. Is it landscape and portrait? I haven’t had time to watch your follow ups, but I’m sure you will have done them all in one orientation. The only other thing. Was ‘thing’. It’s so easy to repeat a word. But. Marks out of 10 for first effort 9.5 😀

  • @greggyctv3809

    @greggyctv3809

@@howardlake6178 Thanks Howard! The portrait orientation at the start was a complete mistake, I filmed the whole video on a quiet road near me and it wasn't until I got home that a realised what a schoolboy error I had made, but I went with it because I had covered all the points I wanted to. It was because i'd filmed it on my phone and that was how i naturally held it! You're right, I've been in landscape ever since! I definitely felt very self conscious when talking outside the car, I hadn't even practiced talking into a camera, so that first footage is as amateur as it gets 😂 Also I noticed I do repeat words, I must have also edited about 5 minutes of 'erms' out of the raw footage 😂. Thanks for the feedback and support, it's much appreciated.

With regard to the antiroll bar bushes replace them yes and also if you look at some owners forums somewhere you will find that JLR came up with a fix, all they do is place a rubber spacer under the bush of the antiroll bar and clamp it all back down, there spacer looks like it's about 2" x 2" and about a 1/4 of an inch thick on the pics I have seen, the rear tail lights also leak which is probably why the previous owner resorted to drilling some holes in them, hope this helps

Thanks Mark, i didn't know about the anti-roll bar bush spacer/shim. Since I filmed this video I realised that the ARB bushes are glued/brazed/fused on to the bar and that you need to scrape all the old gunk away, is this correct? In which case, the shim is a much easier fix!

Great Review Greg 👏: I bought a TDV8 3.6 270BHP on a 08 plate last year for £8.5k with 107K miles on clock. One owner from new , a Doctor, full service history. Just gone through MOT, no issues. Only money spent is full service and oil change plus gearbox fluid and seals, not bad for one year. I'm retired so not doing a lot of miles. My take on subject is, car cost not far short of £100k new, with all the whistles and bells one would expect. If I found myself faced with a £4k bill for, Gearbox or something major, it would STILL represent a good buy for money. Best car in world ....... Only issue I have at mow, like you, is rear wiper and wash. It's all one unit and my last L322 had same issue ( also is cause of tailgate rust ) I got a used part off E.Bay. Mine is Buckingham Blue, but looks black and the doctor blacked it out. All lettering front and rear are black, side vents are black, door handle covers and wing mirrors are black, side steps are black. Wheels are original chrome as original and are mint. Other than Range Rover on rear is TDV8, in black, making the car a second thought to the Boy Racers. So the economy of a diesel, but with the look and grunt of the Supercharged. I think black wheels too 🤔 would be too much. Look forward to following your journey.

Great Video, I bought a 2010 Range Rover sport with 93,000 miles and Supercharged for £8000 blind and within a few weeks the engine blew up! Due to coolant issues, anyway I paid £3000 for an engine rebuild and now everything is perfect. Its great inside and out so for £11,000 I now have the perfect car with the V8 performance.

I had a 12 month full mechanical warranty included to cover engine/gearbox/ancillaries so that gave me some peace of mind. Hope you get things sorted soon!

Hi SG, does it say transmission failsafe prog on the dash. I had it on mine, I went on the forums for Landyzone. If you lift the leather gaiter round the selector lever you will notice a black lever to the right, without trapping your fingers lol slide the selector to N and lift the lever it should work. If not it indicates a deeper issue. Also have the gearbox serviced and a new filter. As Greg advised it's NEVER a good idea to buy blind specially with Rangeys. It can be something as simple as a fuse or a major money pit job. If you get air suspension inactive msg, don't fear the worse straightaway, it may not be an airbag split ( unless it's down on one side only) Check the 50A red blade fuse in the rear loadspace fusebox. You will see 3 50A fuses just below the Air susp relay. It's the middle one you need to check.

Great video, thank you. I am particularly interested in your anti-roll bar bushing replacements. I have a since new 2004, L322 with 217k much loved miles. When I go over cobble stones there is a rattle slight rattle sound in the front area of the car. There was some debris in the road that I hit at highway speed with the lower trim across the front. It did not visually break the trim, but it made a thud and I wonder if something is loose down there or if it is the anti-roll bar bushings you describe. I would love it if you could record the rattle noise you hear please. Regarding the finishes, I am glad you removed the chrome wing mirrors, I suspect those were not factory spec. I vote for keeping as true to original spec as possible. I look forward to you future reports with your L322, she is sharp, congratulations.

Hi Jan! I haven't yet replaced the front anti-roll bar bushes. I have since found out that they are glued to the anti-roll bar and that you need to replace the entire bar, which involves removing the front subframe 🤦🏻‍♂️ Its not really a rattle, it's more of a 'clunk' when you go over a bump, particularly when there is articulation across the front axle. Thanks for the support, it's much appreciated!

@@greggyctv3809 I had my ARB bushes replaced front and back at 108k. Yes they are bonded to the ARB. The garage had to cut them off and clean the bar before fitting the new ones. It was a a horrible job for the garage and expensive, cheaper than whole new bar though. At the same the upper, lower control arms were done along with the drop links both sides. Should be good for a few years now 👍 Good luck with urs.

Local garages were offering traditional gearbox oil and filter change, so not all of the oil is removed as its left in the cooler etc. After further research I found a transmission specialist in Dartford (1hr drive) who do gearbox Mega flushes. Essentially replacing all the oil in the system. It was the same price quoted by the other garages for the normal service plus it was a specialist. I'm glad I had it done, and given me piece of mind. When it was changed they said oil wasn't contaminated but needed doing. Hope that helps. If travelling is difficult you could try Bodsys mega flush as I think he's mobile. Best of luck. My first year of owning my 59 plate L322 tdv8, 90k miles. The dealership I bought it from had a relationship with a garage. Went their for a service two months after purchase.. low and behold, found out all the break-lines needed replacing, as they were so corroded I struggle to see how it would have been missed. From my perspective, it felt wrong, especially since that dealerships garage was the one who supposedly looked over the vehicle prior to going up for sale. So took it to another grage. That was £1300. Then, both front brackets went, another £500. Then the common fault, turbo hose..all in all, love the car, my advice would be to get the vehicle checked over by an independent. But if you buy this car, understand that failures can result in heavy months.

I just bought a 3.6 2009 overfinch Vogue with 65000 miles pay for it 13500 euros here in Spain but I found lot of rust under the car that makes me feel concern ,then another think was that went to the oficial Landrover dealer a to check for a airbag light on the screen and need to pay 600 euros ,then guess what,, the light was again and again appearing in the screen then went to a friend and suggested to change battery for 80 euros, guess what , the problem was just to change battery but Landrover garage take 600 from me..a pity waste of money.e got now got loss of steering fluid and don’t know what to do, will appreciate any help. Thanks and please keep doing videos so that we all can learn how to get our lovely cars in good shape. If you want to know more about my car let me know …thanks again to all.

Nice and proper take on l322. Why did you pick 3.6L tdv8 and not 4.4L tdv8? If i recall corectly from Sam garage channel with those bigger engines was also newer gearbox, 8 speed i think, so was it fuel economy or something else? Im looking right now for 4x4 as a daily car and also offroad adventure car and this one is one of my three choices, other two are vw touareg 1 gen (pneumatic and with rear locker) and mercedes ML w163, but there is something about l322 that stuck in my head:) Maybe also becouse here in Poland there aren't many of those. Cheers mate and keep up the good work!

Hi Maciej. I didn't really have a preference between 3.6 or 4.4. I think the 4.4 actually has better fuel economy, but the 3.6 is slightly more responsive at slow speeds. For me it just happened that the car I found that fit my criteria (price/condition/spec etc) just happened to be a 3.6 😀 A W12 engined Touareg would be fun 😂

Totally love my L322, I actually won it on eBay for £1400. The guy who had it before me really looked after it so it sailed through the MOT last Dec. The only issue I've had is with the air suspension, I put a new battery on and seems to have solved it, I also got a icarsoft diagnostic tool which you'll find invaluable. It went down again last week and wouldn't go back up no how, I changed the fuse in the glove box fusebox which only sorted the lights on the height adjustment console but on further investigation there is also a 50A maxi fuse in the rear loadspace fusebox. My car is a 2004 l322 vogue and in the owners handbook it lists fuse 88 as being for the trailer socket??? Totally con fuse ing

I really need to get hold of an icarsoft, or an IID tool as they take so much of the guesswork out of things! Mine also just last week went through the MOT with no issues so they can't be that bad 😂. Yes, I think some of the user manuals are a bit confusing. During the life of the L322 there were different owners of JLR and through the various facelifts/engines/trim levels, some of the detail got lost!! I have found that the online forums have been invaluable in solving trivial issues, mainly because the cars are so old now that someone else has always had the problem before!!

How is your Range Rover holding up a year later? I am hoping to get an L322 sooner or later. They are cool cars. I’ll be looking at the 2007-2009 models, as in the US we don’t have the diesel engine for the 2010-2013 L322. Just the AJ-V8 with timing chain issues. The AJ-V8 is great when Jaguar did it right lol. It’s funny to see people in the UK talking about how large these are as well, they don’t seem large to me but then I remember I’m used to seeing giant trucks all over the place here in the US lol.

They do get very dirty in the back tho specially on the back window (out side) When looking for one see more than one look at services history and look on how the car as lived it life always check the milage I saw a few with about 5k different on the vehicle to what it was on one was over 7k differences. Firstly your content is great… but your editing skills need improvement, as your audio skips and jumps innaturally all over the place at the beginning!!! Secondly, I was literally yelling at you dragging your finger through the thick dust on your paintwork two seconds after you’ve said you want to do cosmetic work like refurbishing your wheels and buffing your headlights! Get a good valet, have it cleaned professionally and consider having a ceramic coating/polish. Your mileage is against you, but having your alloys refurb’d, as well as your interior & paintwork in good nick will definitely help your car retain value. For example the wash wiper arms are notorious for bubbling with rust around 90k miles and are expensive to replace but any potential new owner from the LR/RR comminity WILL look at the condition of both interior and exterior… even things like having clean RR rubber mats in your footwells, the fridge/console lid being intact, the roof headliner not being stained etc, as any knowledgeable RR potential owner WILL look at the condition of these because theyre costly to replace. Just some advice, the car will automatically draw in and close the tailgate if you soft close it - theres alot of glass in it and they tend to shatter if owners jeep dropping the tailgate with a bang! As for your lights they’ve been deliberately drilled by a knowledgeable previous owner; its an old trick to encourage the inside of the light not to fill with water or fog up rather than replacing the whole light. I’ll be honest, with 106,000 mileage, the evidence of possible prang damage you’ve pointed out & the state of your alloys, I do think you’ve overpaid by a good £3k. Another tip, your battery level is crucial, let that drop to even 85% and you’ll start experiencing all sorts of electrical gremlins; which can present as something far more sinister if you’re not aware… in my first L322 I went down a costly investigation of a possible broken wire behind the dashboard in pursuit of a flashing infortainment screen for example. My car was also being very choosy about locking and unlocking, which was problematic as it once locked itself with my dog in the boot. It was all down to the bloody battery! Perhaps with the exception of replacing your start button the majority of the work you’re talking about wouldn’t be possibly for those without mechanic experience/know how so I do agree with other comments that it’s not a fair representation of running costs. I’m now on my 2nd L322, and Ive learnt that investing in a gearbox service at purchase is worthwhile as is building a good relationship with a local LR specialist. My personal opinion is that you’ll encounter issues you’re not experienced to fix & could potentially make issues worse trying to fix it because these cars are sensitive & complicated beasts!….but if you’re going to try and look after it yourself you absolutely must get a plug in diagnostic tool!! LR have online service history on their cars (i believe for cars manufactured 2012 onwards) but if you ask your LR specialist nicely they can input your service history into the online database which means you dont lose any records and you build the service history content online. Its like Teaco, every little helps!

Thanks for the advice Tinkerbella! This is/was literally my first ever YT video recorded on my iPhone, edited on my iPad so was never going to be polished (I have no background is video/photography at all), it was literally used to learn the end-to-end process for creating/editing/uploading video to YT, and if I could be arsed to do it on a regular basis 😂. Yea I bought this without viewing it (lockdowns) at a time when used car prices were at their peak so i've probably taken a 💩 in terms of depreciation, especially with some of the minor cosmetics that don't show up on photo's (front bumper). In terms of running cost being accurate, I did explicitly say "if you can't do mechanical work, then avoid buying" in the video. I also can't predict other peoples potential issues and costs for them or a garage to fix..... this is MY ownership experience, thats all I can go off. I also intend to be the last owner of this car so things like online service history/resale preferences etc are not an issue for me. You're 100% right about the battery. My car randomly didn't start back in Feb so I changed the battery as it was 5 years old, according to the history file, and it did cure a couple of other niggles (parking sensors?!)

Hi Jeff, thanks for your comment. I agree, if you can't undertake repair work yourself, the repair work would be significantly higher. This is why I mentioned the story of the front control arm bushes (maybe you hadn't got to that part yet). My intention for this video was to provide running cost for my vehicle in my situation, I can't give running cost for other people and their cars as I have no idea what their car/situation is. I also cant provide costs for people who need garages to repair their car, as garages all have different rates/levels of service. I also can't predict what can/will go wrong with other people cars and provide estimated costs, so i'm not exactly sure what you expected of me Jeff!
