The Dominos near me has the crappiest cars imaginable. There's a beat up old Fabia with a plastic bag for a rear window and I can't believe they stick the illuminated logo-sign on the roof. Terrible, but appropriate image.

My family sold our old 2005, 250k kilometers, Picanto last month for €300. The head lining was falling off so we screwed it, the boot wouldn't stand on its own anymore, the bonnet was rusty and we sprayed bottle it. Still the engine was perfect, It would start in 1 second in cold weather. Now it's the first car of a 18 years old guy, he loves It.

I agree. A car with so few miles on the clock should not be scrapped. It needs a person who is handy with a welding machine, and possibly has some fabric adhesive for the roof liner, otherwise a few bob to get it through an MOT. It would run for another 100K easily. Real shame.
@shabba890

Definitely a shame. Engine still strong and body and interior tidy but 20 English winters has taken its toll on that underside.

I love the picanto just simple reliable motoring. We bought one for my dad as a second car during covid me, step mum and dad worked at same place and it went under so they needed 2 cars. Its a brilliant little car i think we paid 1200 for an 09, it just never wants for anything and considering theyve always leased new cars thet seem to love it.

Yes a man that knows 👍
I live out in Korea where these are branded as a "Kia Morning" rather than picanto. These things are King over here, especially in this shape. Seems to be the oldest car that's still used so I guess these things must be pretty reliable
a close friend had a 2006 bought new in this exact color. sold in 2018 with almost 200.000 km without having any sort of problem. done only regular maintenance and the 1.1 was sipping a mere ounces of oil more than when new. the clutch was horrible since day 1, but they are great city cars, very reliable and frugal. only the suspension was not that robust.
Love the videos on the cheap part exes. Keep up the good work Matt.
Love it when a new high peak video drops!!
I’m gutted, I was hoping for a transformation at the end! Always thought these were well specced (for the time) and good looking runaround’s. Would make a nice project car for a driveway weekend enthusiast 👍🏻
I do have to say I love your uploads your content is great, love how you don't get involved with high value motors and that you keep it real and defo not baggy, yep defo keep up the good work, be nice to see if you do manage to sell the cars on though 👍
I’m amazed it has discs on the rear and not drums! Kia pushed the boat out there for such a small light car!
@itsafuckingcobra.5920
18 күн бұрын
It's a weird one. I had preface lift like this one with discs on the rear aswell. But when they were facelifted in 2007 or 2008 they switched to drums on the rear. I wish mine had the drums since they had a better handbrake.
My brother had one of these years ago. Can't complain about it it was a work horse! We did a holiday run to Devon fully loaded for 2 week holiday golf clubs and everything else we needed for the holiday. Although it has the boot the size of a small cardboard box we still managed to fit everything in. Even though it is no sports car driving it on the country roads was fun and parking in city side streets is a dream due to its size. Not a bad first car for a new driver.
INCREDIBLE I've got the same car, same generation and same colour touch wood she's going strong even now

Glad you like them!
Love your sense of humor! This video is hilarious, especially the part about the previous MOT place being a bit fussy and your mechanic giving it a 'damning list' as long as the Treaty of Versailles. You always manage to find the most interesting (and sometimes questionable) cars! Although this Picanto might be a bit of a money pit, it's definitely entertaining to see what kind of fate awaits it. Will you be able to sell it on or is it destined for the scrapyard? Can't wait to find out in the next video!
Nice vid, thanks Matt. Can't save 'em all.
Banger racing, here we come!
Every time Matt has a 15-30 year old, super low mileage car I can expect it to be condemned. To me, it means the thing has just been sitting around, not being driven and vehicles seem to not enjoy not being driven. And it usually means it’s not had enough oil/filter/plug changes because a layman looks at mileage not age. Sadly it seems this little Kia conforms to that assumption. Sad really; I like the colour and I’ve never hated the Picanto’s looks and this kind of cheap car for new or downsizing drivers are dying out.
@shabba890
Ай бұрын
In this case if the mileage was higher it would probably have been scrapped years ago with all the rain and winter salt battering the underside. This car had had welding in the past so it did well to last this long.
Love it, cheers! What causes a sagging head lining? I like the way you have a genuine interest to save old cars and see them running again, I think you're right with this one cheers.
You raised my hope and silly as it is, I was rooting for it. I haven't seen buffed head lamps for a while! But I think it was clear where it was going. Hope someone does something with it.
Think the only way to save it is if someone can get the parts from a breakers for next to nowt and do the work themselves! Shame with it having such low miles, and the interior spot on after the valet. Good stuff as always 👍

I love getting a notification on my phone to say new High Peak video. Shame the car needed a lo of working doing, you could have used it as a courtesy car. hopefully you trade it on so someone can use it, till the mot runs out
What a beautiful little car , a little golden nugget 😳🕺🏼
Bought one of these for the missus a few years back and the headliner did the exact same thing, just pulled it down at the boot and sprayed in carpet glue, never fell again
Picanto ypu either love it or dare not be seen in one. They are very practical low to zero road tax. Good to see you feature non luxory cars too. I will see if I can filter because I want to see mainly Volvo or estate station wagon comparison. Like the extra anectdotal words to live by. You must have been a radio presenter in previous life😅 easy listening voice 👍🏻
How you finding the DJI Pocket 3 Matt? Assuming I spotted the shadow of it. Loving mine so far, if a tad fiddly.
You have an excellent marketing strategy Matt. The odd few hundred quid you win/lose on cheap old cars like this keeps people like me coming back to watch and would consider buying an expensive car off you because of it. Great way of promoting your business because you've built a great channel 👍
I'd love to see you buy a Nissan Cube, always wanted one and be interested to hear your thoughts on one :D

"Clutch is alright" 😂. Your enthusiasm and optimism know no bounds Matt. We applaud your efforts to keep cars like these alive for just a bit longer. Perfect for someone with spare time and skills to revive themselves, while keeping their parts cost to a minimum. With a little TLC there could be years left in it but no how for a dealer to sell on. Sad but interesting - thanks for the video.

My daughter while attending University had a tiny Kia Rio, I would always take it to the local Shell and top it off on Sunday evening before she headed back, also made sure all her fluid levels were good and tires were properly inflated. I got out at the station and a about 5 year old cute as a button lil boy standing at the car with his mother told her that’s a big man to have to ride such a tiny car🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂, every week it was a exercise in humiliation, I wanted to have a sign made that said, This is my daughters car, my vehicle is a F150🤣😂🤣😂

I occasionally have to drive one daughter's pink Fiat 500 and my other daughter's cream VW Beetle (with the obligatory flower in the dashboard vase), mostly on similar 'ensuring roadworthiness' duties. I like to kid myself it takes a Big Man to drive such girly cars. Both are surprisingly decent to drive, especially the Beetle.
If you still have this Matt I know of someone who would be very appreciative as a run around first car!

There are plenty of 20+ year old cars that are cheaper and easier to work on than anything produced in the past 5 years. Banger economics is great.
That is the king of motor cars. A car you dont give a monkeys about. A truely liberating drive. The 4 lamdsail radials just add to the swmse of adventure and liberation.
Your idea of trading it on (presumably to someone who gives no warranty) seems the best option. Deserves to go to someone with the time to fix it but has obviously not been looked after/run on an extreme budget.
In Portugal it was available with a 1.1 3 cylinders diesel and also an LPG version
Sell it for spares. I have a 2010 Piccanto 1 and I love it. Had it from new now 58,000 and been very good . Only problems Abs rear sensors . One repaired by dealer at £450 and teh next one by me £50. That one not been looked after like mine but worth seeing it. Cambelt every six years of course.
I love that colour names stick in your mind! 😂 I thought it was just me. It started with Colorado beige for me (76 Chevette!) my newer car colour database isn't as impressive as yours, I'm 56 - but 70's & 80's cars, there's a fair bit of pointless paint name knowledge in my mind!

I had one these in the same colour about 5 years ago as a dog walking car. Absolutely no performance but I quite liked the old thing. Sadly they had a major engine issue where the crank pulley works loose and knackers the crankshaft. Mine suffered from that .....
It’s a bit grubby but I reckon it has potential. A machine polish and a good clean on the inside, some new wheel trims would transform it I reckon. Shame about the headlining.
Ideal for a new young driver.

These are great little cars
I reckon that would make a good banger racer come October
I find that soft tyres can be easily rectified by putting some air in them.
My first and current car I love it ❤ No Problems whatsoever
Random thought about what you can tell about the age of previous owners from the radio pre set. Some of the early punk rockers are now in their mid 60s - some even older. John Lydon is 68!
Me , pull up look over to car "scrap it , I'm not even looking at that it's not worth the aggro " Matt , pulls up " bit ropey but may be worth it if I spend a bit on it , I'll take it for wash even though the current MOT suggests it's a nail" I love the optimism
I watch various youtube channels with people who collect and fix up very ordinary cars, something like this would be a easy fix for them compared to some cars they work on. Parts are pretty inexpensive as well.
I have watched loads of your videos but can I ask what does 'move along in the trade mean' - flogging it to another dealer, or code for passing along to a scrap yard?
Those little Picanto's are a hoot - my daughter had so much fun in hers that it did not last long !
What about taking it with you on the Berlingo challenge as the support/ forfeit vehicle?
This car looks better than it is mechanically. Unfortunately Matt, it is beyond rescuing, you can’t save them all, top marks for optimism though❤.
I just wonder one thing. Do you ever do OBD tests on the vehicles you purchase? We haven't seen any, it would be cool.
Hi Matt i just bought an slightly crashed damaged but hpi clear 2000 Honda Accord Auto with only 59k miles! I cannot believe how low mileage it is
I remember Car magazine describing the front styling as "cats bottom grille"
6 months MOT at least. We'd love to see more 'transformotion' hand-overs. (not picantos obvs) Get them to flip ur buys hopefully for profit. Know its probabaly easier said than done tbf
30 years ago I paid similar for my first car. a 70,000 mile Fiesta mk1 that was 14 years old. Scraped through an MOT after about 4 months, then did me for 12 months taking it to just shy of 100k. A few repairs along the way, only broke down once (new points fitted at the roadside). Next MOT screwdriver went through lots of the bodywork and subframes so it was goodbye.
Hello, Matt. Remember me in your will. 😂 Is it me or do 20 year old cars not look like 20 year old cars, I just think old shapes don’t look old like in comparison an 80s car did compared to a 90s car. Great video.
What do you think of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2016? We're only after reliability. Does this do the job?
Hope you feel better soon Matt! But if the Manflu is terminal, please will you leave the Chrysler Crossfire to me 🙏🏻

Hi Matt new wiper blades with rusty arms . What a shame with such low mileage . Pity we don,t see the MOT checks
My old 2007 picanto had slits in the headlineing since I bought it in 2021 and I always wondered why, now I think someone must have done a litttle cheap fix and shoved some glue in there or somthing, it must be a common issue on these older picantos. Other than that and a few clutch issues it was a good little car, made it from cambridge to newcastle a couple times.
nice video
I just hope Matt is okay... The Man flu is a killer. Feel better soon Matt.
Second part of video Matt looks like John Travolta from Grease. 😅 (side profile) 😂😂
Matt, I assume that the scrap value plus video content value made this purchase worthwhile, or else you’d have done the carvertical check prior to purchase and the mot list would have made you decline? How about turning it into an off road demolition racer and starting up another channel. All the bad stuff you buy through the year gets stripped down to engine, gearbox, drivers seat and steering wheel and you have a high peak demolition Derby at the end of the year, or in May, May’s the best month. Nice one Matt.
Here's me being a little cheeky, if you move it along, or scrap it then I would definitely take that little tyre compressor kit, that's in bubble wrap in the boot. You never know when you might need one 😂you might not have found sunglasses or any other goodies in this little picanto Matt but at least you now have an air pump 🤣
Had plenty of that kind around when I was young - we'd fix them up and flip them. Cheap, nifty cars with lots of small things. It just isn't viable to do it professionally. Somewhere though, there is a bloke (or blokette) looking for a first car to fix up and drive to college. Maybe you should start "Low Valley Autos"... 🤪🤣😁
Mat, that's the perfect car to fix the most serious issues then drive it to Spain in the summer and see if you can make a profit there, or maybe get your return air fare out of it!
The sagging headliner broke this car 😊 I bought a Polo once for 50quid, belonged to a pizza delivery guy who had split a can of cooking oil in the boot. I couldn't get rid of smell either, so I sold for 150quid to an Irish fella.. 😊
By far the best car youve ever had stunner❤❤❤❤❤
