I think the 1.6 were actually a modified Zetec engine which was belt driven. The larger 1.8 and 2.0 were the Mazda-derived Duratec with chain drive. Confusingly the 1.6 was also renamed Duratec even though it was really a Zetec. And yes, I am fun at parties!!!!

Afaik the mk2 1.6 (the 115bhp version not the 99bhp) had the sigma engine. The 1.6 ecoboost is the turbocharged variant of that. Everyone says zetec... But Ford also conned people by having 'Zetec' as a trim level on its cars, not the 'Zetec' engine. It was clever marketing because even today those who had a Zetec trim, call its engines a Zetec... Which was a very reliable engine, when they didnt!

If you look at the bulkhead you'll see two holes where the dual controls were mounted and feel the passenger footwell floor for the outline of the foam padding that had to be removed to install the dual pedals. Not true. I bought my 2011 Focus 1.6 ecoboost nearly 4yrs ago and the clutch bite is so low to the floor, hardly need to raise the foot before the 'bite'. A good clutch? Aftermarket clutch? Or an outlier? (Seriously soooo low to the floor and not high at all).

It could be aftermarket or perhaps they lowered the bite point? Or it could be normal from factory.

I had a 2009 ford focus, the facelift to this. I bought it for £1200 at 97k miles and had it for 3 years. It was flawless! I drove it up to 123k and sold it for £1200, just as much as I paid. 3 years after selling it I still occasionally see it on the road today. The mighty 1.6 petrol is clearly going strong still! One correction is that the 1.6p is belt driven as I did get the cambelt replaced on mine. Also the clutch being high I think is just a characteristic of these, I've driven a few and they have all been like that.

I love the MK2 Focus, the facelift 2.5 version looks better with the updated headlights in my opinion. They are great cars, we had a 1.6 TDCi - I loved working on it, went to 198k miles on the original clutch, dual mass flywheel, turbo, injectors and HPFP. Only things I ever had to fix were trailing arm bushes, stuck EGR valve, injector seals and the notorious cluster fault.

Great cars these were back in the day. I had a Diesel hatchback from new that I put 50k on in six months and a Black Estate Diesel afterwards. Both company cars thankfully as the mileage sky rocketed on them when I had them. Great video as always 👍

I love these. Had several over the years. Comfortable to drive for long distances, they were well built, simple and reliable, (as were a lot of cars from the mid to late noughties,) and capable of huge mileages. My son had a 1.6 petrol estate 2005 vintage. Bought it on around the mileage of this one and took it to nearly 200k before brake system issues killed it off. .

Probably the best engine you could have in a focus the 1.6 zetec/duratec. The only thing i would worry about with one of these is rust everything else will just go forever.

My mate Mal has one of these. Solid cars, he ran me to Bristol Eye Hospital some years back, after my left retina detached overnight as I slept. He did say that his brother's mk. 1 Focus 1.8 was fair bit pokier and had better soundproofing, but the chain driven cam in this is a worry free boon, for sure.

Im driving a 07 Focus Ghia. Its so comfy to sit in and has just enough little driver perks to keep me satisfied. Its got about 98k on the clock and has never caused me any issues. I put it through its last MOT and ot passed with no advisories. The only major issue I've got with it is a severe boot leak, which appears to be common on them. Its a typically boring car but i love it!

I still have one of these but a 1.8 TDCi Style with 137,000 miles. Pretty solid cars and cheap to fix when they do need something. Bought mine for £1500 in 2018 and besides the usual consumables it hasn't needed much. Coincidentally mine also has two Avon front tyres but Apollo's on the back and the AC (which still works) has the button worn off just the same as this one.

Zero depreciation and a reliable car that’s cheap and easy to fix if it goes wrong. This is one of the ways to seriously reduce your transport costs! Yes it looks boring, but it’s unlikely to be stolen or raise the attention of traffic police. A very sensible buy.

They are a good solid car generally, my wife loved it. We had one and scrapped it with an intermittent fault. In hindsight I should have kept it, since the common fault is on a circuit board in the instrument binnacle which is a quick soldering job. Could have done it myself. Hindsight is a wonderful thing
