I’d 1. Strip the boat of all hatch(s) 2. Remove the tee top and deck plates remaining 3. Remove the gas tank and hoses 4. Remove all the wires 5. Remove the engine and strip down to the block to inspect what needs to be replaced/ reworked 6. Core drill the stringers and transom to indicate how much water intrusion has taken place. 7. Clean and sanitize the interior hull compartments. 8. Dry out interior of the hull with fans and build a bubble with a commercial grade dehumidifier to expedite the process. 9. Build a stand for the rebuild of the motor and testing and so on if your going to do it at your home / compound.. AND So On…. Cheers Jjr

Do it right or go home. No need to throw good money to the way side. And by following this and doing it right may cost some money, but then again how much does a new boat and motor cost. And i am sure a lot less to repair it right.

I did the same thing. Ended up with a 2021 Yamaha f90. I had to replace the engine harness and the idle motor solenoid flushed it all out. Fresh oil runs like a champ. That's the best way to buy a motor. This one only had 10.7 hours total time and it was sunk in freshwater. No corrosion no rust. The motor looks like it just came out of the Yamaha box 12,000 motor. I've got less than 3000 invested in. It runs great

As long as the motor spins over the only real issue will be the wire harness mainly the fuse box thats the only area thats not sealed. Just clean out the hi and low fuel pumps and replace the fuel filter in the Bottom. All should be great. Never had a Suzuki yet that went under that i wasn't able to have running that day. Great find , good luck

If you spray brake cleaner into those combustion chambers I'd recommend that you follow up with a bit of fogging oil before cranking the engine. I'd also suggest that you crank the starter with the ignition disabled for a few seconds before allowing a spark (The deadman switch should work for that)) so that you get some engine oil circulating before that engine fires up. And, perhaps most importantly, change the oil before even thinking about turning that engine over. Oil is lighter than water so despite the pristine appearance of that oil you could have salt water at the bottom of your sump and that would be bad. So pay attention to the first thing to come out of the sump when you drain the oil.

  • @carlweekend

Thanks! I used the break cleaner to blast out the junk that was down inside spark plug well. I did this before removing the plugs so that debris didn't fall into the cylinders when I pulled the plugs.

If the motor was solid, I would probably not sweat it. Not looking good at this point, after alot of demo and dry-out, fiberglass lay up, tons of wiring your going to be in in for some coin. The good news; since this is content, you’re probably going to end up with a badass skiff with a 2 stroke and another full life. I re-motored my immaculate 98 Aquasport in 2014 , and I’m still in it for the cost of a new skiff 😂 Wouldn’t have it any other way my sled sleighs 55kts and drafts a bit more than a foot and now I have been able to land my PR yellowfin that was almost as big as the boat , and still be able to run around backwater and main channel on the lower Colorado River 🤘🤘 Sometimes unwise choices lead to the best experiences. @ Carl Weekend, Take the fly wheel cover of and get a socket that fits the crank shaft. Then try turning it over with a racket wrench or breaker bar before trying with the electric start. May save the cost of an expensive starter. And if you get it to start moving spray more oil in it, oil is a good thing so don't be chinsy on it.

Get all batteries out hang the wire up spry some degreaser and clean bottom of compacts get a gal of simple green you will need it. I flip boats as a side hustle. If the hull wasn't breached it's probably fine. It will clean up. Everything electrical is shot, you need to totally rewire. I wouldn't even start messing with that engine. Either have it rebuilt or better, sell it to a person who rebuilds and repower with a new engine. After that, and with a trailer, you will have a boat worth around $40-50K. My guess is you will have around $25 into it not including the boat and trailer and with just basic instruments. That's with a $15K repower. But selling the powerstick and trolling motor (if you get them working) will take off those costs.

$40-$50k for a 2004 bay reef 196? Even if it wasn’t a salvage boat and if it was in great shape that’s a $15,000-$20,000 boat.

Cheap is not relative unless you tell us what you paid for the boat. For what's it worth this boat would not scare me away, any Key West is a timeless classic. Cleaning this up to shine like a brand new penny is a walk in the park. However, no matter what you think or how good something looks EVERY wire and most likely gauge in that boat is junk and will fail given enough time. Still no big deal, wire is cheap considering the cost of a new boat. I love these type of projects.

The salvage company is Cooper capital specially salvage. This was in south west Florida after hurricane Ian. I think they set up temp locations for salvage lots after major disasters to liquidate all the totaled boats for the insurance companies.

Heck i haul my 33' Yacht i bought in IL. and pulled to back to TX. at 100 mph > I had a blizzard right behind me. I didn't want to get stuck in that. Time i got to Texarkana, i had a blow out on the trailer. We spend the night inside the yacht. Until things open up the next morning. The blizzard move in on us 🥶🥶 over night. But wasn't as bad as it would have been up in IL. 🙄

@@carlweekend I hear ya. I hate cold weather 🥶 Every motel up there, was ice cold, all night long. We like to froze to death up there. What was nice on the way back was? The yacht was like a travel trailer. To sleep in during the night. We had all the comforts of a home 😁

It's most likely an astroturfed channel. He only had like 30 subs last weekend and out of nowhere the video gets pushed and viewed like crazy even though there are plenty of other channels doing the same with less subs and views.

wtf?How much did the boat cost?u say cheap - what's that?i'll watch the next post but you need to give up more info...i don't think you need to invest anything more except in electronics -i bought a few submerged boats and brought them back to life in an instant.off course todays engines are full of electronics and computers so you'll probably need to replace ecu if it shorted out - that depends on the fact if it was connected to the battery or not when it got wet...your steering does not work because the pump is not working for now. good luck

The channel had 30 subs when this video was pushed into my feed. Suddenly and unnaturally it blew up with nothing special about the content. Look at the other videos in the history. It's an astroturf unless he won some sort of KZread lottery to push his content.

Yeah I agree you don’t know what you’re doing especially when you tried to twist the oil fill cap and said “ what’s this coolant?” Lmfao😂 is the radiator on the bow? You really don’t know how a outboard cools?

I wish I could understand what you are saying, but half the time you are mumbling so bad I have no idea. Also, judging from what I've seen of your skills, I think you may want to consider having a good marine mechanic do most of the work.
