It's funny how this Adventure Mode started with just beating up wild life. Meanwhile One of mine started with me fighting goblins and scaring ones mind so bad that it ended up fleeing and telling all the other goblins in the area how I grabbed his friend and removed their head and then threw it as a weapon at him... None of the goblins in the area seemed to want to fight after that. Then again that was old pre steam DF so it might not work like that now.

I used to play Adventure mode back in the day. Every run usually was some variation of murdering a local vampire, drinking its blood to become a vampire as well, using my undeath to waltz right through a necromancers tower to freely learn the secrets of life and death, get thirsty and try to drink from a human in a town, have my secret of vampirism exposed to the world so the carnage begins. It often resulted in having an army of like 100+ zombies, storming every location I'd venture to, until finally succumbing to my thirst or a local guard getting a lucky strike at my neck.
@littlekmc1493
Ай бұрын
that's a classic run. Finding the vampire in town or necro tower, becoming undead and wreaking havoc on the lands. I actually just remembered my first run at a necro tower because of this comment. I could walk right up to the tower which must have been vampirism, but was unaware my hearthperson companions I had gathered (pre- party screen build) were gonna be slaughtered. I tried to help them out in the fight, but I think they just ended up perishing and having body parts reanimated. The slab wasn't in the tower, but on the necromancer's body. i looked through all of his horde before learning this, lol. Then i approached towns afterwards and watched as I accidentally got everyone fighting, unaware my old rep no longer mattered. old tilesets weren't that bad back then, at all. the frames, though. I bet it's better nowadays, though I haven't tried a goblin pit or a tower since far before the steam release.

I have only played Adventure Mode, not Fortress; the latter always seemed like a commitment to learn, which I did want to get to eventually, but would rather just learn a handful of hotkeys (pre-Steam) and wander the land. My favorite memory was wanting to really test the wrestling mechanics, hoping to take on groups of enemies barehanded and all that jazz. I spawned in a fortress, couldn't find the way out, so got lost in the caves instead. I figured if I couldn't get topside, I may as well see the damage I could do to what I could find. I found a troll. I couldn't manage to actually strike it to any effect, so I played the long game. I managed to exhaust it in a lengthy fight, finally putting it in a chokehold and rendering it unconscious, ripping off its horn and impaling it before continuing to wander. It was probably twenty minutes of cycling through menus, but no other game has given that feeling of competency. It was great.

Hey so btw in case you didn't know, the blue exclamation mark next to a body part means that one of your attacks is guaranteed to be a direct hit [do near/about the highest amount of damage possible] if you go for it. It's very useful for obvious reasons but it does have some risk sometimes.

In theory you could play as much as you want as long as you do not die. Most creatures can live up to 90 or so years so you could, theoretically, die of old age, but to achieve that you would have to play for thousands of hours with the same character. Answering your question, it depends on each person, but I know lots of people who just play Adventure mode and do not touch Fortress mode.

Is DF really more complex than cdda? More difficult to understand how each thing is supposed to work, sure, but thats not complexity thats just bad communication to the player.
@filidhdeklend893
2 ай бұрын
Yes and no. What DF simulates in the background is more complex, but CDDA's systems for gameplay are more complex. Like, DF simulates body tissues, nervous systems, sentient creature thoughts, etc while CDDA focuses it's realism more on how things like crafting, nutrition, and other survival tasks work.
@thunderousavenger2382
Ай бұрын
Both games are complex in their own rights, but df easily beats cdda in terms of combat quality and depth. In cdda you can just kite most enemies and watch their hp drain til they die with little to no control over the combat itself or indepth body damage simulation. Dont get me wrong tho, i love cdda as its also on the phone. My pc is dead.

You can butcher animals you kill iirc. For water you basically have to find and take some water skins from a fortress or town, but after you have a couple you can fill them and they'll last a week or more.
Ah heck ya! I was hoping you’d get back to dwarf fortress, really enjoyed the last play though you did. What ever happened to that fortress?

Hit in the head with a copper sword *not effective* Use your weak arm to strangle a giant cyclop *critical hit* Cyclop died
When someone says 'interestingk', I move on to next video.
If you survive can you just adventure indefinitely? Does anyone prefer this mode to fortress mode? Thanks in advance!

@@juanortiz69420 nice, that’s exactly what I wanted to know. I think adventure mode is what i’ll try first. Thanks!
For Dwarf Fortress players: what year did you start playing?

Is DF really more complex than cdda? More difficult to understand how each thing is supposed to work, sure, but thats not complexity thats just bad communication to the player.

Yes and no. What DF simulates in the background is more complex, but CDDA's systems for gameplay are more complex. Like, DF simulates body tissues, nervous systems, sentient creature thoughts, etc while CDDA focuses it's realism more on how things like crafting, nutrition, and other survival tasks work.

Finland never forge... wrong youtuber
