I Ate Everything at the Local Dutch Market in Delft 🇳🇱

In Delft Netherlands there's a local Dutch market on certain days of the week. I was lucky enough to be in Delft on one of the days the market operates and was able to try the local foods offered. I found many Dutch foods to try as well as a few foreign options from countries that the Dutch colonized at some point in history.
This market in Delft has remained opened even during the pandemic. It gives people something to do and see. I tried Dutch cheese, stroop waffles, and foods from Suriname. Everything at the Dutch market was delicious and the people were very welcoming and friendly as you will see on this video.

OMG I am dying about the soup part, splithead 🤣🤣the man is struggling to find the English word, so he was saying it Dutch, so typical 🤣🤣its a soup made with peas, we call it spliterwten thats why its called erwtensoep. Never eaten it tbh, BTW I am so happy you found surinamese food! What you ate is Bara (the bread) you can eat it plain or like you did with the chicken. Surinamese food is a cuisine of indonesian, indian, chinese and african influences. Bara is similar to vada in India, taste different though, the people made their own way with the ingredients that was available at that time (this happened around 1800s) so you won't find any biryani in Surinam 😜, but delicious made curry, rice, snacks etc. I hope you visit Surinam one day, I am sure you will love it🙏🏽✌🏽

The soup also can be called 'snert' but I believe you may only call it that if it's thick enough to keep your spoon upright... also, the sausage in it is 'Gelderse rookworst' which is smoked sausage from the Dutch Gelderland province you can find it with hutspot/mashed potatoes often as well

We do indeed have a market in most cities and villages twice a week. There is a difference between those 2 as well in most cases, in that (usually) on Wednesday you have the full-blown market with all the stalls to browse at your leisure. Saturday it's usually only the ones for foods like cheeses, a butcher,(incl. or excl. poultry), fishmonger, nuts, veggies/fruit :)

I miss that you try the fisch on the market, it is very delicious. and the market is on thursday not on wednesday. there are also not 2 churches on the square, there is 1 the big "new" church and the one on the other site is the cityhall. It was nice to see my hometown. Greets from Turkey ;)

yay, home! i live there. the market is on multiple days here in Delft, although most cities just do saturday. If you want dutch cheese: Gouda is the standard and its known all over the world. my dad even managed to find it in US. personally i like the old ones. "brokkelkaas" is so old its crumbly. very strong flavour so you really have to like it, but i do. the clothing on the market isnt necessarily what locals wear. most people just buy from the large national stores If you go to the market in NL you also HAVE to try fresh stroopwafels, like burn-your-fingers-hot-kinda fresh. good job on not forgetting

Between two churches? One is the Town Hall, where you ate your Surinamese snack, the other is a church indeed, with the Royal burial vault. Most cities have big markets twice a week and small markets on the days between, except Sundays.
