About 4 years ago, my friend intro'd me to Thrill video, and told me he digs the band -- I had never heard of it. He and I don't share the same musical taste. So, I expected the worse. I figured in and out of that video in under 10 seconds and say thanks, and move on. But, I was shockingly drawn in, and by the 10 second mark, I was like wow, this is actually decent. I was stunned that one of his bands didn't give me an ear ache. The next thing you know, I'm all over the Internet binging on everything I can find from that band. About 3 hours after watching Thrill, I had already watched MISA and Kanami square off in Don't You Tell Me, fancam of Kanami solo in a tiny club, been blown away by pirotechnics on stage during live Play and on the beach during Non-fiction days, and I already had a favorite song, Moratorium live. That remained my favorite until Domination live dropped. What's crazy is that when I put together my first bandmaid playlist, Thrill was not in it. It was merely the gateway drug.

@@venusgaijin Thanks! Yeah, I owe him big time. Haha. Btw, you're right about how videos recommend other Japan bands, and that's how from bandmaid I too got sucked into a huge J-rock rabbit hole. In my case, since I don't do heavy metal, my bands consist of Rick Rack, Shoko Nakagawa, Gordon, Suspended 4th, each of which I now listen to a ton.

I found the ladies three years ago from a reaction video. I had never heard anything from Japan before - I had never even heard of Babymetal back then. But what you are saying about YT recomendations is so true. After finding and falling in love with the Maids music I dived headfirst into the Japanese music rabbit hole and never emerged. Every single day now I get numerous KZread recomendations for up to date but obscure Japanese bands of all genres and it's amazing. This week alone I found three great bands 'Sentimental Puberty', 'Big and Round' and 'GReeD' (R spelt backwards). My favourite bands from Japan apart from Band-Maid are Velka 362 The Peggies Drops (RIP) Brats Gacharic Spin (I'm not into metal so much - sorry) But Band-Maid are the best all round band I have ever come across in my 56 years.

I discovered them last August 2022. Certainly wasn't because of BabyMetal don't care about them all. If my memory is correct I saw the real smiles of a few reactors that had reacted to Freedom. I decided to give a shot and as soon as Saiki and Miku are getting the crowd pumped up and the joy on their faces as well as the reactor's smile. I know I was smiling. Freedom is one of the catchiest songs ever made. I spent the rest of that day going from reactor to reactor and song to song. Almost 1 year later I have all the CDs including all the special editions, both Maid in Japan limited original cd and remastered versions and to celebrate my 1 year journey with Band-Maid the 2 Best of volumes coming in August. Band-Maid is seeking World Domination and for me personally they have already achieved their goal because my world has been dominated by their amazing music for the past year and I wouldn't want it any other way 🎸🎸🎸🎤🥁☮️❤️🕊️🇨🇦

I first discovered them a few years ago when 'Thrill' got its big social media bump. Liked the song, but (I'm ashamed to say) it didn't really stick with me and I thought them a little gimmicky. Then over the past couple of months I've been watching more and more reaction videos of mainly Australian pub rock bands (old fart attempting to get back to my 80s party days roots). One of those reactors did Babymetal 'Headbanger'. Which was great, but struck me as even more gimmicky than B-M's 'Thrill' had done years before. However, as the video noted, watching that one Babymetal video led the EweChube algorithm to suggest a Band-Maid reaction video just a few short weeks ago. Pretty sure it was 'Domination' (and if not, it was 'Freedom') live. That was it...I was gone...the addiction had begun. I'm hooked. I have no desire to give it up or rehab... For someone who was pretty much listening exclusively to classical music and learning to play viola (very badly), it's switched me to listening/watching Band-Maid almost non-stop, AND has me digging out my guitars and trying to play again. I call that a good result.

I found this band more than 4 years ago. As a drummer the first thing I focused in on was the drums. When I clicked the video I had assumed this was just another Pop-Idol group where the girls just sing and dance and I was planning to click away pretty quick. But from the first ("Start Over") the Drummer was clearly playing. It went from this kind of light guitar pop to slowly built up piece that had me clicking on the next one on the list: "Thrill." A total throwback to 80s Hard Rock nearly Metal. The drummer is sprinkling in double pedals and just keeping it rock solid. At this point I'm impressed enough to keep going. "Real Existence" is what put me over the edge. Akane (I had read the comments to find out her name at this point) goes completely Keith Moon wild on the drums while never losing control. Each verse, each chorus and the guitar solo all have multiple sub sections on the drums, and it is simply amazing. Simple, but ever moving, changing and perfectly locked into the rest of the music. So, after watching every last official video on their channel multiple times, made my first iTunes purchase EVER (and first money spent on new music in DECADES) I called up a friend of mine who had played guitar professionally in Japan back in the 90s. "Dude, I just found THE MOST AMAZING Japanese band! and they're all girls! and all dressed up li...." "Oh, you found Band-Maid, here, let me send you a link" ONSET. I think I cried.

I learned about the Beatles in junior high school, and John Lennon passed away in the winter of the year I got a job. That might have been the end of my rock-centric life. After U2, I lost even interest in rock music. In February 2020, while living at home due to the pandemic, I was looking for old rock on KZread, and the Thrill of BAND-MAID appeared on the recommendation. With BABY-METAL's success, I knew there was a maid band, but I didn't feel like listening to their songs because they were a cute gimmicky band. The Thrill I heard without expecting it was exactly the rock I had been looking for. And a week later, I was listening to all of their music videos. And a month later, I joined the fan club for the first time.

I was looking at cover videos. One lead me to Nemophila doing Kiss DRC, watched some of their videos, covers and originals. A Lovebites video was recommend at the end, then eventually, Band Maid popped up. Been listening to all 3 bands now ever since. I've seen Band Maid live 3 times now. Dallas, Houston and Austin. In Austin, Saiki actually recognized me, I was center stage maybe 2 or 3 rows back. She said you seen us before right, ( I was shocked ) I said yes 3 times in Japanese, all 5 seemed shocked I knew some Japanese. I lived in Japan for 6 years in my Navy days. I told them they were my favorite band. Told them they were each my favorite on their instruments. Kanami blushed some giggled covered her face and waved at me. Misa Held up her beer in like a cheers thing..and smiled..lol Akane just smiled acted silly doing some kind of gorilla pose..lol Miku had a huge smile said thank you, up close Miku is super gorgeous. I think she is one of if not the most naturally gorgeous ladies I've ever seen. Her smile is electric. So is Saiki's, she was so nice she really knows how to lead and play with the audience. I got picks and a pair of drumsticks after the show, My Tee shirt signed and a photo with them. Akane is super silly. She kept jumping trying to be same height as me. She also has a beautiful natural smile. Defiently made a huge impression on me. Misa was so nice. She gets bashful so easy when not playing..lol. They really made it a night to remember. Cost me a small fortune getting that autographed tee, picks, sticks and photo all set in one big frame. Every chance I get I will go see them. Do not pass up a chance to go see them. You will regret it. Ask Mr Rock N Roll. They recognized him when he went to a second show. I don't know how she does it, but if you are close to the stage at more than one show. Good chance you may be called out and talked to. I've heard others say same thing.

My odyssey started with someone posted a video of Wagakki Band's song "Kishikaisei" on Facebook. WGB begat Baby Metal, which begat SCANDAL, which begat Aldious, which begat Girlfriend, which begat Lovebites, which begat Band Maid, the most important begat of all. Since then there have been many begats, Tone Spoon, Polkadot Stingray, a reacquaintance with Show-Ya, then Stereopony (so sad they disbanded) and best of all Glim Spanky. Japan now has sown up hard rock(BM), Metal(BM), blues rock (GS) and Japanese Jazz/Funk with The Jazz Avengers, Twin Bass, Foxy, The Sax Triplets, Nao Yoshioka, UKO Saxy and whole host of other Japanese and expatriate Western artists.

When I did that, in Dec. 2021, in my YT sidebar up came Band-Maid, Choose Me and Play, both live. Since I'd listened to anime J-Pop/Rock back in the 90s when I watched anime with my teenaged son, I clicked on them. I'd given up on US rock in the late 80s and hadn't paid any mind to it since then. But someone in Babymetal fandom suggested me to check out Scandal. They weren't for me either but it was around that time KZread started recommending me multiple Japanese bands. Band-Maid initially wasn't under my radar because I was sceptical about the quality of the band based on their "gimmick". After about 2 months later, with KZread still recommending me Band-Maid I finally checked them out, the first video I checked was Real Existence official live video and loved Saiki's vocal and guitar arrangement straight away, I was disappointed by mv version afterwards, but I kept watching all their live footages and by the time I listened to Onset and Moratorium I was sold. My BM obsession started with 'Death By Rock n Roll' (Pretty Reckless) on the radio - i love female rock singers so I jumped on YT and looked them up. Found Dead Sara, Halestorm and another called The Joy Formidable (all excellent). YT seeing I liked female lead singers suggested Babymetal - not a metal fan or aware of Japanese rock I sorta went "wtf" as i watched 2 of their vids - but in the suggestion column was the Thrill thumbnail - they look cute (Japan has weird stuff so it could be fun) - I went WOW - watched a few more - "Man they have a great drummer on the sticks" - 2 years later I have all their cd's (heaps of merch) hours of videos (blu rays) - and I rate them the best rock band since I found the Beatles back in 1980. I have a driving job and listen to them all day 5 days a week (with Kiyoshi and Banshimoku).

I discovered band-maid when the Thrill video was released in November 2014. We'd just come back from my first Babymetal concert in New York in November 2014. I was chatting with a super Babymetal fan from Quebec City. He was sending me a videos of Japanese bands made up of girls playing heavy metal. At one point he sent me a brand new video that only had 7000 views on youtube, this band-maid video released on November 20, 2014 was Thrill. Really great song! I've been listening to music for over 30 years, I know how to play guitar and bass a little bit, that beat Wow! I'm one of the real first fans, outside of Japan, of Band-maid. I searched all over the internet about the band having found only a demo of Kanami and Akane. There was nothing about them. Since then, I've always watched every video that came out. I actually have their entire discography and have been playing their music on my bus since 2017. Many Babymetal fans are also Band-maid fans like me. I'm sending a message here to new band-maid fans: don't underestimate Babymetal's influence without Babymetal fans like me band-maid wouldn't have lasted long. That's why you'll always see Babymetal fans at band-maid shows. I've been listening to band-maid songs for 8 years now, having been to two of their concerts. As with Lovebites and Scandal, Babymetal paved the way for female bands from Japan.

I was logging on for a Blackpink live stream from Japan. Logged on early and had heard very good Rock music. So after yelling at the computer a bit, the name of the band - BAND MAID!!- popped up. This was about 5 years ago. After the live stream, I did a deep dive into Band Maid.

When I first went to Japan it was 2 months after I discovered BABYMETAL and was still immersed in them. I had seen Thrill and Some Wagakki and some other stuff. I went to Tower Records and just bought stuff. 3 Band-Maid CD'S even though I only knew one song. And I listened to them a lot and it just carried on from there. Now I've seen BABYMETAL 5 times and Band-Maid 8.

I discovered Band-Maid through a KZread recommendation in 2014. I had been listening to Japanese rock music for years before they formed, and my favorites at the time were Scandal, Ellegarden, and Asian Kung-Fu Generation. When I first saw the music video for "Thrill," I wasn't impressed. The song was good, but the band seemed forced in the music video and a bit gimmicky. I'm sorry, but that was my first impression, and I stopped listening to them. Fast-forward to 2018, I saw a thumbnail of the music video "Dice". I was curious about Misa's new outfit, which was different from the last time I saw her., so I gave them a second chance. I was blown away! The band had clearly evolved in their musicianship, style, and dedication. They looked like they were finally enjoying what they were doing. I later learned that they didn't write their own music in their early days, that explains why Thrill didn't resonate with me. But now knowing that they're writing their own music, they're on a whole new level and continue improving with each passing day. I'm a huge fan!

Discover BM way back in 2014 with their song Thrill. Can't remember but I believe I was look at something Japanese related such as anime or music. Around that time, I got into Babymetal. I was more into Babymetal than Band Maid at the time. Babymetal was the first album I ever purchase, and I later bought other Japanese songs to fill up my library with one of them being Band Maid. I bought their first two albums which they had at the time to give them a listen. They were good but not something I would be crazy about considering I listened to their first two albums. Few years later I had fallen down the pigeonhole when I heard other songs from their other albums such as Dice, Domination, Warning, Puzzle, Yolo, Alone, Freedom, Manners, and others. It was a huge difference when listening to their earlier songs and comparing them to their more recent ones. These ladies have grown in a lot of ways. Now they are my #1 favorite and most listened to band ever since then.

I discovered Band-Maid back in December 2014 I believe. One month after the Thrill music video came out. It just appeared on my KZread recommendations after searching KZread for some new jrock bands. I remember going back to their KZread channel at least once a week for a few months hoping for more, and just when I was going to give up, boom, the Real Existence music video came out. While they were a band I liked, they didn’t become my favorite band until the day after the Just Bring It album dropped. I bought the album the day it was released and within 24 hours Band-Maid had become my favorite band.

At the time (2021) I was very interested in Japan and its culture. I don't remember exactly if I specifically asked YT for female Japanese rock bands. Still, he recommended Babymetal and Band Maid to me, which I knew nothing about. I chose to watch the first one which was not for me a rock band according to my criteria. But I enjoyed it so much that I didn't watch Band Maid (Thrill) until 6 months later. I became a Maidiac but I discovered through them that Japan was full of many rock bands with incredible talent.

First time I recognized BM, was on their tour in Germany - I had seen the posters and took a look on KZread - but I was not interessted in metal-music at all and I forgot BM. Later my 4 year old niece Laura wants to know what kind of videos i was "allowed" to see and found the brand new "Afterlife" video that was advertised on youtube. The reaction was: Have you seen this? THESE ARE REAL NAUGHTY GIRLS ! We was shouted by the whole family and we decidet to keep it a secret when we both was looking videos "from the naughty girls". As Laura was dancing to BM I began realy to interest for BM and their music. meanwhile... I need my daily dose of BM-music and Laura and some friends (now 7 years old) NEEDS e- guitars to learn and play Rockmusik by themselfes and as Band. The cheap guitars I have seen in the internet can not even be intonated right ! So I decided two weeks ago to buy an CNC Engraver/millingmachine to build up guitars that can named instruments for the whole "newcommer-Band" (dont care if the Moms are crying ) It seems that this little Band realy gets sponsord by "the totaly crazy uncle Matth" ! (I can not resist because I'm not allowed to marry another women till Laura is adult !) To this developement BM is guilty - its only their fault !

Then if I'm on the right track, I decided to see if there were any other alll female Japanese bands, and a playlist of different bands popped up. So besides band-Maid. the list would have included Dollbox, and a band whose name I have forgotten that had a somg called "Panda". I think. I'm sure at first i wasn't that impressed. because It wasn't the type of music that Shonen Knife. But it wasn't long before i fell in love with all the bands on the playlist. Did Bandmaid stick out for me?. I dpn't think so. If I recall correctly, it was dollboxx. Ah yeh, it was probably this one kzread.info/head/PL0e_MSUE0BLS0UC1kKtmFakZ0PIOng6mU.
