I am still so impressed how Gacharic Spin have reinvented themselves time after time and withstood the test of time.

MINA, formerly of DESTROSE, previously said that she has given up the idea of working with the same members for a long time. She said that she has decided to call on musicians who have no plans to perform, and to record and tour with them.

MIHO leaving was hard a hard pill to swallow, but LOVEBITES did a fantastic job managing fan reaction by putting out NAMELESS WARRIOR to reassure their fans they will be back. NEMOPHILA is in my thoughts now.

I think I mentioned this before, but I’m excited for them to continue as a four piece. There will be a lot of possibilities. Btw, I found out recently that Paint and Copter is in a Venus Gaijin video, with Nemophila, Band-Maid, Trident, etc. (!)

I think something people often don't appreciate, especially when it comes to the smaller Japanese/East Asian bands, is that the band members will usually have regular day jobs to pay the bills, because the band won't bring in anywhere near enough money to live on. This can often prove to be a strain and make members leave, even if they enjoy being in the band, and can really come to a head if the band start touring, rather than just playing shows in their own city.

It's interesting. One the one hand, as a Band-Maid fan, I often hear that they are so good because they are so close, work for each other, and have never lost a member. But on the other hand, Gacharic Spin have just produced two of the best releases (W and Ace) I've heard in my life, the fruit of fighting their way through all of those setbacks. Both of these things can be true, of course. There are different ways of becoming a great band.

I don't know much of GS's history, but that summary made my head spin. (pun not intended) Just goes to show you raw talent is not enough unless you have a good fit emotionally and mentally. Health issues are always heartbreaking. The death of Armmy hit me in the feels, and I didn't even know her.

Fun vid ty. There seems to be so many talented female instrumentalists in Japan that replacing a band member seems pretty straightforward. But were any of the members that were replaced actually integral to the band's songwriting and sound? That doesn't seem like it would be easy - replacing an instrumentalist who was also the band's songwriting talent. For example with Lovebites, I don't think their bassist was their primary songwriter - so the band could just add their new bassist and keep humming right along. So good to see how Gacharic Spin weathered all their turnover.

BAND-MAID, on the other hand, is a rare band whose style has not changed for more than 10 years since Saiki joined. It is difficult to keep the same aspirations for a long period of time due to environmental changes over time and differences in musicality. But not all member changes are negative.

It also happens with successful European bands like Jinjer, BEYOND THE BLACK, Cobra Spell, Burning Witches or Arch Enemy. It's not just the world of musicians that has changed. Even normal people change jobs several times in their lives these days. In the “old days”, you learned a profession and then worked in that job/company for 45 years until retirement age. So the fact that young female musicians change jobs more often is neither special nor unusual.

I had been thinking what Band-Maid would be like minus any particular member. I think the only one truly irreplaceable Is Mincho. Mincho is Band-Maid.

It would totally destroy the dynamic. They're clearly all best friends (or greater than with Saiki/Kanami). I think the reason they work so well together is because of that strong interpersonal bond. I don't think they really could carry on the same with any one member gone. At least not for years. That kind of relationship would take time to build with a new member.

Hard disagree. They are a unit. Miku herself once said that if any member were to leave, that would be the end of B-M. Anyone else in that lineup is unimaginable. It would be like the Beatles with John, Paul, George, and…Fred. Most bands can shift out members, but some simply can’t. There is a magic to B-M that can never be replicated with anyone else.

It is easier to replace a member in Japan, since there are very good musicians with a lot of technique, charismatic, it is not like in other countries where only some members stand out and others who do not even remember them.

@@c.7610 . We all love Misa, Akane, etc. And maybe it wouldn't be quite the same if one of the other members left, but the band would still go on if Mincho wanted it to. There are a plethora super talented female musicians in Japan that would love to be in the band. But Mincho is utterly irreplaceable.

I think it is Miku who makes B M going the way they do. It is Miku's will and relentless work in the background and on the business side what keeps them sailin in a very relentless entertainment business in Japan. Don't get me wrong, all the members are super important because they can work together perfectly and all of them really add something special to the "product", but they said many times that it is Miku who keeps them going and always working and busy like a middle age salaryman. Also, if you observe them long enough, you will realise even they say there is no leader in the band, when there is a glitch, issue or unexpected thing happens, they all see for Miku. Mincho is a genius and amazing musician, but without Miku she would still posting her videos on her YT channel as she is not good with self promotion and would likely never get the chance to make it big from a big company.

You are one of the people in a band who have a say if you can contribute to the band's income with your creativity. The best bass player or guitarist is useless if you don't have good material to play. If someone like Fami is overpraised everywhere, there is a danger that she will become megalomaniac. That's what happened to Ammy with Gacharic Spin some time ago. We all know what came of it today: it's called an unknown illness in Japan. Where should the Fami outgrow it? LustQueens ??? 😮
