I Asked AI To Teach Me How To Sharpen A Chisel
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I asked AI to write a script for a video on sharpening a chisel. It provided me with the script and camera shots. Here is what it produced.

I had a friend at the gamestore we both worked at, we got new computers, of course his name was Dave so I set all the sounds to play quotes from the movie... he came up to me and asked me if the computers knew my name. I acted like he was on something and asked what he meant and he went on to tell me that the computers greet him, ask him what he's doing, and when it's time to turn them off, they tell him to stop.... this went on for about a month and everyone would get a riot when the computers called his name
An AI video script deserves an AI comment, "This AI generated wood by wright video on sharpening chisels is a game-changer! The precision and efficiency of the process is truly impressive. Can't wait to try it out for myself. Thanks for sharing this insightful tutorial!"

Oh my God This response is the kind that I immediately ignore
Now you can really call it a demon possessed sharpening process
I am actually astonished that it even got the basic process right on such a niche topic

I'm guessing it got it pretty close to correct at least in part because he prompted it to do it in the style of WoodByWright, so there's lots of accurate content for it to base the script on.

It's because it returned the same basic information that you can find on hundreds of websites and blogs. Think of these things like a "word calculator"; it's scanning through words one at a time and finding the next most associated word. The model doesn't actually know what a chisel is.
So, why do we need you then? 😂 Maybe AI can give us some lovely projects like a T-101 endoskeleton in white oak?

That was pretty fun, but as you said, not there yet.
Knowledge, wisdom and an amazing sense of humour. Love your content, James!
I’d love to think that it scripted the post script too along with the slightly incredulous laughter 🤔🧐🤪
Great tutorial on sharpening chisels! The step-by-step instructions were easy to follow and the results were impressive. Can't wait to try it on my own tools. Thanks for sharing! (generated by DeepAI)
Thanks for answering my question on the stream
Thanks for sharing that, you look sharp too!
Thanks for sharing.
You answered my question at the end there......Dad Jokes. That one was a stinker.
That was a fun way to break your usual character. I hope you set a calendar reminder to try this again in a couple years.
James, your channel and your ideas are always so much fun and yet educational. God bless man, greetings from Pakistan
So now we know who's really making your videos. Thanks for sharing.
I think your assessment is correct ... it's not there yet. Thanks for sharing.
There's a cool movie about an AI that started sharpening chisels and eventually became sentient and next thing you know John Connor has to save the world from Skynet... awesome movie, just came out.... in 1984 !!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!
It was like listening to no alcohol beer.
Seems to me that what you got there was akin to a power point presentation and a not very good one. When presentation software first became popular, I remember learning to put high level concepts on the slides, to minimize the number of words, and not to just read the slides, though many people did, and still do, read their slides. AI gave you bad slides to read. Some more work needs to be done, though it was cool that you got camera angles, etc. Thanks for doing this.
I don’t know that I would say it was unsuccessful. The reality is there are thousands of videos and blog posts and magazine articles talking about how to sharpen a chisel, thanks to the abundance of woodworking content creators, and they all say roughly the same thing. It’s telling that the AI script was probably 99% accurate (or maybe we should just say “not inaccurate”) - that’s the homogenous voice of the woodworking internet masses coming through.
The jokes got a lil better actually
James, the other day I watched a guy building a water stone grinder... He used what seemed to be a normal grinder stone, but he used a DC motor to turn it slowly... Made the water bowl... thingy... I don't know... But it looked to work well, to tell you the truth! I don't have a lathe to make the gears like he did, but there are pretty cheap DC motors with gearboxes... So, I don't know, but perhaps I end up trying it! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
It`s quite funny how it alternates between very okay and weirdly awkward.
It could have been worse. Nice to see that we are not going to be replaced. Still something to be said for entertainment.
missed opportunity to have a computer-reading text-to-voice app do the voiceover for you ...
Come back, we need your personal... Fun facts❤❤❤
Missing the misnamed infamous Dad joke.
Of course the scary part is new wood workers who would think that was informative and complete. 😂
Its great that Max Headroom retired from digital existance and became a woodworker.
The lights up above your head in the background are changing colors. Is that intentional? If so, what do they do? Also I am actually impressed with the AI’s ability. Though I like your normal video scripts MUCH better.

I forgot to set the light color before starting to record. Oops lol
Love the explanation of tear out. Now I know what caused it. But what is the cure? LOL.

Thanks AI.
This video is more saturated than previous ones. New camera or new editor?

Same camera same editor just new shop new lighting and means new settings on a camera. Still playing with what looks right
That was fun lol I much prefer you and Rex though… don’t go anywhere lol
what is the green stuff you put over your leather before stropping?
@WoodByWrightHowTo
Ай бұрын
Green buffing compound. Chrome oxide
Give it ten years or so, and AI will be capable of creating a James Wright video indistinguishable from the real thing. And that's the least scary thing I think people will do with it..
Snide remark. ;-)
That same AI would launch a weapon without thought or remorse. No personal experience, no living through failure, no gratification on success ...no thanks.
welcome back james. sorry i missed the show wed. are you going to the omaha mwtca this weekend? im bringing around 100 planes or so. specialty, users, bedrocks, combo and at least one number one

Sorry, forgot to add this. Are you going to show the rest of the table tennis build in your videos, or was that just a one time thing? Also, God bless you, your family, and your friends.

Yes. I will be doing more with the ping pong table soon. I'm focusing on getting the shop up and running first though.
Careful, Sarah might get jealous of AI telling you what to do rather than her! Sorry (not) was too easy a shot
Interesting! 😂😂😂❤
Thanks, that was cute. One thing, think about turning off the blinking lights at the top where your molding set is please distracting when trying to look at your bald head. 😊

Silly fun
You don't want to know my thoughts..... 😢😅
The voice sounds a bit like Marc
awesome .. I also asked AI .. to teach me how to translate millennial/zillenial/zoomer into English and vice versa

Sorry I forgot to set that before recording.
Ai, ai, ai…
Resistance is futile
I have sharpened hundreds of chisels. I made an endwheel grinder with CBN discks. ... I still have tot strop them on leather with diamond dust
😂
Next time you should use the annoying AI voice to narrate it as well! 🤣🤣
That example chisel is a joke right? dear god, that one is fubar.

That is my glue chisel. it is the only reason I took it to the grinder. none of my good chisels ever see that thing.

@@WoodByWrightHowTo Figured as much, the rest was already sharp i guess ;) I bought a good grinder (Hanning and balanced the stones) so I can also sharpen chisels, planes and twist drill bits with it. I like sharpening, but when doing chisels, it just takes too long to get them to 25 degrees by hand. Flattening and the secondary bevel go on diamond and compound strop. I can peel rice with them. Your video's help me honing my skills. Thank you.
I mean… it wasn’t wrong… just less useful than a person with some skills
You guys know this isn't real right?
Definitely stick to your own jokes! They have a level of cringe far beyond the capabilities of computers.
Funny, but no.
Meh.
@ Wood By Wright - AI content gets an automatic thumbs down, sorry but I have a serious aversion to BS. Otherwise, I wish you well in what you do.
