I Am No Longer Yomi Hustle's World Champion
Ойындар
I'm taking it a little easy on the editing on this one, mostly because it's finals week for me--but also because I caught Covid after Thanksgiving. Not a great combo.
This video is a compilation of my matches during the inaugural ANZ/OCE/Asia Region Yomi Hustle tournament known as Saturday Night Hustle. You can view the results here: challonge.com/271zbq92 I'm in the NA region, so by the end of this tournament I had been up for 36 consecutive hours. SNH was accepting non-OCE/Asia competitors at the time, but I don't think they will in the future.
Thanks to Jon Bois and Alex Rubenstein for inspiring this video's musical stylings, you guys are legends.
Music used:
Epidemic Control - Guy Skornik, Zab Skornik
Thinking Different - Alexis Smith, Joe Henson
Question de temps - Bernard Parmegiani

No such thing as intelligence on a linear scale like that. Human intelligence is immensely diverse, this game is all about intuition and who can make the better guesses. There can be no "best" because we are all better at reading different types of people. Everyone has their patterns they cant escape, even the best of the best. Those at the top will be studied and beaten, all the time. You just have to know the game and know how to be unpredictable, and know when to be bold and switch up, and know how to play mind games.

The problem with being amazing at reading people is that you are prone to overthink most people. Most battles for me its not figuring out how smart they are, its how dumb they are. I legit get mad when i set something up for the most efficient and intelligent move they could make based on my current actions and then they go for the dumb option and I get hit. If I would have picked the dumb option too we would atleast be in nuetral but no now im being juggled
@bernardo8993
Жыл бұрын
sounds like they didn't pick the dumb option then
@shady1137
Жыл бұрын
@@bernardo8993 Yeah, they did tho. And its constant. People tend to pick the most simple, most readable option even if they are trying to play mind games. Once I realised that beating the average person became really easy. In tournaments, they never pick the simple option unless they are trying to mixup. Regular people are just monkey see monkey do mindset. They dont think too far into it, which throws someone like me who constantly overthinks off. However im amazing in tournaments. I beat the top wizard in Hustle Heat 1 without getting hit. I knew he would try to back away so I picked stinger, but if he went for the more simple or dumb options I would have gotten hit there.

You overpredicted. This is a common thing in Pokemon too, as a simple example Heatran vs Scizor. Heatran is faster and Scizor is dead to literally any Fire move and the opponent knows it. The only smart move for me is to switch to a Fire resist to take the Lava Plume/Magma Storm and force Heatran out.... right? Except my opponent knows that too. And because they know that I have two more choices. Clicking Close Combat instead of switching is now a viable choice. If I'm right and he went for Earth Power or Toxic predicting that I would make the optimal play, I kill his Heatran. I am taking a risk in that if I'm wrong I'm losing Scizor, and it's one that I'd never take against a lower-ladder player who's likely going to react to the situation in front of him rather than what I'm probably going to do, but against someone who's good at the game I can actually take their reads into account before I make my decision. Likewise, I can predict that he'll switch into his answer to my most likely switch and use U-Turn instead. Again, if I'm wrong and he went for his Fire move I lose Scizor but if I'm right and he did either of the other options, I get to make my switch after I see what he does. My opponent being good at the game turns two options that would be terrible against a worse player into actual considerations. Your opponents aren't necessarily making the dumb choice. They're calling out the correct response to the smart choice by picking an option that beats it.
@shady1137

@@so0meone thats alot to assume though, there are an incredibly vast amount of reasons someone can arrive at the same conclusion. It could be because they read you, made a good educated guess generally around what you would do, or they misread or tried something risky and it worked. Those are just the most common examples, but it mainly comes down to reading opponent patterns and using whatever variables you recognise to form a conclusion. The combinations of these conclusions is what im calling "vast". Ive been playing alot recently and im pretty cracked. On a 16 game win streak and im trying to play in skilled lobbies. Just a bit of experience and I can read simpler thinkers alot faster now. But by default my mind tries to make things as sophisticated as possible so simple thinking doesn't come naturally to me which really effects my reads. But im aware of this now and better at tapping into this mindset ppl call "common sense"
YOO I faced you the other day, you’re cracked

How do you control where the lasso goes. It rarely goes where i want 8t
@TapdotWater
Жыл бұрын
If you mean in terms of where I'm throwing it, it's a lot more about getting the enemy to move on hit in such a way that you can hit the Lasso on your next move. If you mean after a Pull, that's just a matter of guessing the opponents' DI

@@Akodakun It used to be that the block system was in a state where if you blocked anything, it would perfectly parry all damage and allow you to react, often starting a combo or negating your opponent's multi-hit attack entirely. My homie in red (The guy who uploaded the video, former world champion) used Lightning Blade, expecting the blue guy to go backwards. Lightning blade is pretty unsafe if whiffed (missed) and is a projectile. It hits an area far in front of him but not close to him. This left him open to combos, which are devastating in this game. He lost the gamble.
