There's a fatal flaw in Ubisoft's business plan... they're so busy finding ways to upcharge the customer that they forgot they have to make a game ppl want to play in the first place

If we want The Division 3, the best thing ubisoft can do is making money elsewhere. Division player count is minimal, it offers them no profit

"Yasuke" was a simple servant for Jesuit missionaries, and later became Nobunagas sword bearer because he saw him as a kind of oddity due to his skin color, parading him around court like a sideshow attraction for his guests. That's the whole story, nothing more to it, but it wouldn't fit modern politically correct narrations, hence pop-media turned him into a "black samurai"... which ofcourse he wasn't, and barely even a year in service for Nobunaga - that's hardly enough time for Yasuke to be trained in martial arts. He wasn't even a bodyguard, because if he was, he would've died with Nobunaga at Honnō-ji temple.

I have to admit, I agree with the concerns. It's got to a point with gaming I no longer get excited about upcoming releases. They're either filled with politics or release so broken they should have been delayed another 6 months. I'll be waiting for reviews on TD3 before putting my money down, pre-ordering or buying on day 1 is just setting yourself up for disappointment from my recent experiences.

I think Yasuke is fine as AC has done this before assuming myths and stories are true and the games have always been historical fantasy with some historical conspiracies used but he shouldn't be a playable character but an NPC quest like they do with every other historical figure in AC games. Naoe is completely fine and I usually prefer female Assassin's like Evie and Aveline and it seems Naoe is prolly more of a loner and prolly not part of some Clan(and idk if these official clans would even be part of the Assassins) but a Samurai playable character entirely doesn't work with Assassin's Creed cause it's gameplay favors Shinobi style characters waaaaaay more and many of the actions you'll do directly goes against Samurai code and values.

Given how ubi priced AC Shadows on the to new grift trend I have no trust that any future titles from them will be priced reasonably at any level. Also apparently the Japanese demographics are less than amused by this whole thing. Its not as vitriolic of a reaction as the Egyptians had with Netflix's criminally revisionist Cleopatra but if Japan feels like suing, or at least putting out some form of condemnation towards it I wouldn't be surprised.

Thing is that Yasuke did exist, I think it's not bad with creative liberties with him cause other games do the same him being a samurai like in Nioh 2 which is japanese made but he really shouldn't have been the main playable character but your historical npcs you always have in AC games. Naoe the female Shinobi should have just been the main character which I don't have a problem with her being a woman and lowkey prefer female Assassin's like Evie, Aveline and Shao(and Cassandra in the RPG newer games Post-Origins)

@@pink_kino Oh I absolutely agree, yeah sure bring him into the game as a side character, maybe even main cast with some creative liberties but having him as the player character was a step in the wrong direction and there seems to be a consensus that it trends uncomfortably close to culture appropriation in the not respectful way.

@@jdsh_8837 I mean you have Naoe which is Japanese. I honestly think Yasuke might just not be that well written cause AC Odyssey was marketed alot with Alexios but when you play the game most people totally prefer Cassandra cause she's so much better written and better acted so the same thing might be the case here. Yasuke gets most of the marketing but when you play it actually Naoe is the clear better character

Ubisoft is not in the best financial situation and is because of that under strong influence from shareholders. Guillermot family still owns about 20% of voting rights, but they never were a paladin of good gaming quality. So it will be all about optimizing shareholder value - for years from now on.

Division 3 could be here quicker that you're thinking. But unfortunately because of really scummy business practices. Which honestly makes it more of a possibility. Ubisoft canceling HeartLand (a free 2 play project) should have tons of pre-made assets, that would now only need a story, and missions to go along with it. This could easily be accomplished in a 6 month to 1 year time frame (a perfect marketing window) after next year's DLC (Underground) release. Plus seeing HeartLands location goes along with the books overarching story the games story has been incorporating. Now add in TenCents recent push towards Microtransactions I'm D2. Although theyre currently not as egregious as other titles, a New Game offers them a way to easily ramp this area of the game to be on par with everyone else. So the quicker turnaround to a new fan favorite title release (Division 3) the better for them. Unfortunately the worse for us, because not only do we lose a Free to Play model (that could have brought even more players into the franchise) but now we could instead be paying $70+ for it.

They messed up when they banned people for two weeks over the damage glitch and threatened to perma-ban them if they did another glitch. Other devs like Bungie would've had a laugh about their own ineptitude then fixed it in a week or two, not blame their customers for their own shortcomings. I would've bought the last Watch Dogs and last two Assassin's Creed games with all the dlc's but I'm not giving money to people who threaten to perma-ban me for playing the game the way the devs made it. Fuck em, it's funny watching them circle the drain.

The Division 2 was already a political game. Most manhunts have a diverse cast, most women are ultra powerful, part of the developer team who are still active within the community is openly LGBT. It's funny how this somehow wasn't a problem in all these years. As for Assassin's Creed, there are better ways to find historical accuracy than in this franchise

Culture war politics is like a low hanging fruit that is always jarring compared to the more nuanced and deeper political commentary of Ubi and most gaming's older games. I personally prefer female lead characters in AC like with Evie and Aveline and think Naoe is pretty good and knew to expect her with the first leaked images and very early promotions of the early stages of the project. Yasuke is sort of a problem though not cause of his sort of fake history which I think is fine cause AC always uses more rumors and myth stuff and assumes them to be true and Yasuke has been a Samurai in other games like Nioh 2 but I think the main problem is making him a player character. He should have been just an npc questline story like every other AC game did with historical figures and Naoe be the playable character(I personally think a Samurai player character entirely doesn't work with AC as Assassins goes against Samurai code and values) I personally have never minded women in gaming and usually do play as mostly women characters(dunno what that says about me but oh well lol) but I think alot of the criticisms for AC Shadows is entirely contrived and unnecessary and just fueling more of the culture war brainrot. Sorry for the long block of text but yeah something I've been seeing alot on Twitter aswell

  • @ferrenberg

@@pink_kino I won't debate about Yasuke's story but there are merits to both sides, those who see them as nothing and those who see them as someone of importance. AC being a fantasy game with bits of historical accuracy, I think it's a good character to have in the game. Personally I couldn't care less about Japan as I'm not infatuated by anything they have ever done, but I'm looking forward to this game and playing with both, usually I'll go for a male character unless the game has lots of replayability (Mass Effect, Cyberpunk, Baldur's Gate, Fallout etc)

Star Wars Outlet is Disney and it is woke Crap. Avatar is Ubisoft open world concept in boring. Valhalla was already boring and mirage is topping that. Skull and Bone… I don’t talk about that filth. Massive is not able to spawn any kind of a new franchise. Ubisofts is ruining all of their longtime franchises. The only Games with a loyal fan base are called the division 1 and 2. After Heartland being canceled and a long list of failures and misconceptions I really think Division 3 could be a great game again. My hope is that they realize that they have to give the audience what the audience wants. Everything else failed already. And if Ubisoft/Massive wants to survive as a company it is about time to realize that quality, story and the gamers are the pillars of their business. Time to FAFO is over. Get back to the basics of your business Ubisoft. Gamers buy games. Not political activists.
