The way I thought of it was that he always had the goal to escape dema but he never thought he would go back there to take them down. But now that he has this power, he can do something like that. He can fight instead of run. And he can save the others instead of just saving himself |-/

What if Tyler’s outfit is a cover up? What if Tyler is tricking the bishops once again by making them think he is under control? But in reality he is in his right mind. He is making the venture to Trench to rally the banditos and infiltrate Dema. This would make Tyler the leader of Dema. He has red tape remember, this could mean he is now in his right mind and ready to lead his army. If this did happen, the Ned tribe has to be involved in it aswell. I don’t see many more roles for them to play. Just a thought.

Tyler becoming a bishop makes so much sense, especially since they went out of their way to remove keons circle on the map. Hence, there is one available spot to be filled to make up 9 bishops once again.

I wonder if there's significance to how he says "I am returning to Trench" as opposed to "I am returning to Dema"

I think we should pay more attention to the way he is saying these lines, there are parts where he sounds confident but also parts where he sounds scared or not certain

I find it so funny how like ~technically~ Self-Titled and Regional At Best aren’t part of the lore but you look at things like this and A Car, A Torch, A Death and you just kinda have to tilt your head and go, ‘But isn’t it?’

Something else that someone pointed out- in the video, the letters are written with a typewriter. In the past, Clancy has written on a typewriter while in Dema, and in pen while in Trench.

This actually brings up an interesting tangent, which is that the jumpsuit letter was written with pen and the writer seems to believe he is alone in Trench. Even if you interpret the "rider in the river" line as confirming we are seeing Clancy in the music video, how did that get written if he was dragged back to Dema after the events described in the letter?

the way i saw it, the handwritten letters are old notes from the first clancy. The original "clancy" was the one who started to stir up demas pop. He tried freeing them before. But dema was able to stop him. Dema got OG clancy to embrace vialism, and kill himself. "Clancy is dead" . Trapdoor from self titled says, " he wakes up early today, throws on a mask that will alter his face, nobody knows his real name, now he just uses one he saw on a grave" To further this i point to morph when hes explaining who nico is. "He goes by nico, he told me im a copy when id hear him mock me, thats almost stopped me" Nico has seen it all before. He was there to see OG clancy try, and fail. "Everyone gather around for a show, and watch as this man disappears as we know, do me a favor and try to ignore, as you watch him fall through a bleeding trapdoor." Tyler is picking up clancys legacy. (STILL ALIVE) Tyler found OG Clancys documents. Leaked them online to us(The citezens of Dema). This is why dema wants to stop tyler. They want to stop him from continuing clancys legacy. I figured the new typewritten letters are from tyler, as new clancy, and the handwritten ones, INCLUDING the instructions on how to sieze, were from OG clancy.

I like this theory. Another kind of variation of it that I have considered is that Clancy is a mask, an identity that Tyler uses to empathize with and write from the perspective of a person still struggling to find his joy so that he can help those people to introspect and find it. If this is the case, then he and Tyler are merging, and they will merge with Nico/blurryface once they realize they cannot destroy the Bishops completely per se, but they can negotiate or force a Truce by accepting their insecurities and refusing to hate themselves for having them.@@ixnoli

I don’t think Tyler will try to destroy the banditos, rather he will destroy the bishops but perhaps compromise his own morals to do so.

I feel like Clancy going back into dema represents going back and looking at old bad memories to move on

Another thing that should confirm that he is back In dema is the letter. It’s written by a type writer. We know that there are 2 different letter types, hand written and typewritten. The ones handwritten were most likely in trench were he had no tools, while the typed ones were most likely in dema where he may have had access to a type writer. This means he is back and dema most likely. And obviously he said he was returning to trench.

I know so many people theorize this, but I really hope it doesn't just keep going in a cycle cuz it just feels incomplete

Maybe the mixture of the red and yellow fire could be a depiction of Tyler right now. It’s a mixture between him knowing what side he wants to fight for (the banditos) but he knows how easily he can be taken control of by the red (dema). This might be why in the in the Icy tour cinematic, Josh is in front of Tyler and leading the way because he needs to protect him from dema’s easy control over him and for a little while dema may have been successful (during the icy tour in stressed out) but after being knocked down by this way of life, Josh was there to lead him the right way. Josh’s leadership from his time with the banditos, Tyler’s knowledge of dema, and their overall friendship makes the perfect duo to stop dema. Idk how accurate this it but this is my thoughts

When you listen to Tyler during the Clancy music video Extravaganza, and he's talking about the Torchbearer's superpowers after(?..) Navigating, he says that one of them is his ability to Guide. Incidentally, if you recall from several interviews and appearances over the years, Tyler has said on many occasions that Josh has an impeccable sense of direction and he, Tyler, definitely does not. (..should have stayed inside my house..) And therefore, they are kind of perfectly matched. So, yeah! You nailed it! You, my friend, had an uncanny prescience about this subject in your comment here. Good job!

@@sukimarmelaide4030 thanks, it all just kinda made sense One thing that I am also both proud of and also upset that I didn’t get right was the “josh isn’t real” theory. I feel like people just assumed that he wasn’t real entirely which wouldn’t make sense because he was the reason Tyler knew he could trust the banditos so I never believed it. Turns out I could’ve just realized that all the proof of him being real was when he was with the banditos in trench era (which we now know is when he was actually physically there) so I could’ve also gotten that right if I just put two and two together or looked into it and realized how different the case was during sai era. Idk if that makes sense but now I just think it’s interesting how I never noticed that

@@sukimarmelaide4030 it’s also worth noting that the red and yellow also represent how the red tape (people who follow Clancy’s beliefs. Still not to sure if the belief of “seizing can be good” is the only thing going on there) and the banditos beliefs coming together to take down dema

I need to say this story if true it has a huge gap in it. The last time we saw clancy was at the island holding up the torch to the banditos, now he is a destructive weapon for them? all along the story was pretty consecutive and this gab is weird. Also, why would the bishop cover the eyes of the vessel on the albums, we already know they can seize and already seized them. But they are the ones that don’t know that Clancy can seize now too and he needs to hide that from the bishops so maybe they wouldn’t see him coming.

The way he starts out with "I'm trapped" makes me think he's in dema.

I feel like this is a very well put together theory, even in morph nico calls Clancy a copy. I’m not sure if he meant a copy of everyone else or a copy of himself but either way that would be such a great ending.

I love the ending to Alan Wake 2, and how the main character realizes the "loop" they are in, is actually a "spiral". I've started applying that with more in life. Tyler could very well be "spiraling down" instead of "continuing the cycle".

I think a big part of The “end” of being mentally ill, is acceptance. No more distractions. Accept, Embrace, and watch the world around you literally still loves you the same ❤ So in a sense this Theory works!! In a dark, yet beautiful way 🤷🏼‍♀️

He Is claiming his struggles not trying to escape from them, he Is claiming red

Yeah I think Clancy will already be so broken that he will become unstoppable. I still think he will win against Dema but in exchange he will forever be broken because of what he went through, yet because of him others will be able to live happily.

I think the color change means Tyler is getting the banditos to switch from yellow to red; a color the bishops can't see to their own color. The banditos are no longer hiding from the bishops, they're going to invade the city and burn it to the ground ("together we create an inferno"). I could also see Clancy setting fire to the entire continent of Trench. It's an ending that I can see people not liking, and if this is the last album in the Dema story, it would make sense for the creator of this world (Tyler/Clancy) to be the one to destroy it.

this is a very interesting take on this, and i was wondering, maybe the cycle can never be broken. maybe tyler/clancy is going back to trench not to destroy the banditos, but to replace keons. this theroy wouldnt make a ton of sense, but for me it's something to keep in mind. idk 🤷‍♂

When I first heard the theories about Tyler being evil with the next era, I definitely didn’t agree at all. But this video really makes a lot of sense. I think it’s pretty likely that Clancy/Tyler could have been taken back to Dema and turned into a bishop, before the Torchbearer and banditos rescue him at the end.

It would be so cool if Tyler does become a Bishop, but becomes the only bishop by killing all the others. This would be him taking back control in a way, and embracing his natural power. Maybe this will separate him from Josh and Trench, maybe it won't.

That is a cool theory and I've seen it going around, but it doesn't really make sense to me. If you listen to what Tyler/Clancy is saying in the video he says he's been stuck in a cycle he can't break. Every time he leaves dema he gets better at escaping. He calls himself an escapee. He basically talks bad about the bishops and dema throughout the entire video. He says he is an exception to the rule. His power makes him the citizens' only hope. I think the red tape is a threat to the bishops bc he doesnt have to hide anymore bc he has discovered he has the same power they do. I think his outfit is a vigilante outfit, not a villain outfit. Maybe he's taking back the color red and the paint as a way to show that dema don't control him. Its a statement and threat. It's still a cool theory. There's just no proof in any clancy letters or music videos to back it up and that would mean that Clancy was lying to us this entire time, which I feel like would be a pretty drastic plot twist. Plot twists are usually somewhat hinted at throughout a storyline and we've had no hints that Clancy's ever been on the side of the bishops. The only thing we have is the meaning of his name. Maybe Clancy is the son of the paladin that paladin strait was named after? Also, this whole story is very dark. Talking about really dark aspects of mental health and I feel like it needs to have a positive ending. Not an evil one. I don't think Tyler would do that because I think he wants to send a positive message about mental health, not a hopeless one. But i dont think the battle will be easy or fun. I know tyler had red eyes in the blurryfave era but was he ever actually siezed in the trench or sai eras? I wonder if that was something before the lore that doesn't remain true. I know he was smeared but thats a different thing. I agree with you, I think the villain story would be fun but I'm also not sure if it makes sense. I agree with everything you just said. I think the Red Warrior is not a bishop, I think he is someone from outside the city; a long-forgotten hero, a legend. I think he is the Paladin that Paladin Strait is named after. The name "Red Warrior does not sound like a controlling dictator like a bishop, it sounds like someone who rises up against said dictators.

Dude I’ve been following this account since scaled and icy and I just wanna say I’ve been loving these script based videos! They’re very well done.

“I’ll tape my eyes so I don’t fall asleep again”

This theory makes sense if we read the lyrics of No Chances: "Ride or die, my son". I would bet anything for it to be true.

I think Clancy has always been a mask, a covering, or more specifically a faceless identity that they can use to help the fans relate to the music. I believe he has been present in every song where Tyler is putting on some of his old insecurities to try and reach people who are going through something similar, and so he is also Tyler's old self in a sense bc Tyler has "seen the streets" we are walking down. And while he wouldn't wish who he was on his enemies, it is fun (and probably fitting) to fantasize that it's actually true. So by sharing his story through the story of Clancy, and not making it clear what exactly the metaphors mean, it allows the listener to make it their own, and it calls out their demons (Tyler's enemies) using the partially faceless character that is also a representation of Tyler's journey: Clancy. There is also the fact that Tyler said in an interview that Clancy gave Nico the nickname blurryface, but the new video tells us Nico calls himself that. I think both are true simultaneously with Clancy and Nico being two faces of the same character, which we know blurryface has due to Goner. One interesting thing is that there is no person driving in HDS. It is an empty hoodie sitting in the front seat with no hands or body. The hoodie disappears, and at the end, Tyler takes a different set of clothing out of the trunk. I think that there is a connection between the two pieces of clothing in that they are both the same character, but two different faces: the hoodie driving was Nico/blurryface and the jumpsuit was Clancy. This also fits with Tyler begging the Torchbearer to hide the fact that he has plans for Tyler in Ode to Sleep, as it would essentially be the same ask as "Jumpsuit, cover me!" since Clancy is the version of Tyler who has not yet found his joy. There's a lot more supporting details and I think it can fit with the new I Am Clancy video (especially considering how covered he is by paint and putting on the mask at the end) but this is already too long. Loved your theory, and I am curious to see if Clancy is being controlled by blurry or vice versa, or maybe they will merge in some way to represent the fact that blurryface is no longer hidden?

If this is the final album and if the songs are sad when Tyler is now happy. Maybe it’s Tyler destroying his old support structures and replacing them. Letting Dema take control but to destroy all of it. A planned attack as his music is now more of a painful thing to make then support.

Just gonna throw this out there as the 'son of' theory reminded me of the photo on the very first documents on dmaorg of Andre Weil with a young boy. The name of the file was se_elf.jpg. A photo of himself? Son of Bishop Andre??

This whole story is for and about much more than the bishops or clancy or any character. For it to end this way is like saying the suffering will eventually destroy you and turn you against yourself which really really defeats its purpose. And I feel like we’re forgetting about the physical letter with red envelope sent to the fans and the letter from clancy in it. It doesn’t suit any of this especially if the bishop know where clancy is and already using him. I believe this is a part of the plan of taking down dema somehow because otherwise for everyone taking strength and hope from this storyline, this would be very hopeless and very painful.

Could the paint and red tape be some sort of diversion? Clancy: "I now recognize my unique power, I can pretend that I have been dragged back again. Then, once reintegrated, I will convince the others inside to rebel and let the Banditos in to help." That's my theory as of today.

Nah, but I have heard that theory. I was like, no, because how would that go with the mental health journey that this is all a metaphor for. But honestly what you said makes since I am kind of here for that theory being realistic now. Like that could actually happen it would be bad but it could happen. I am definitely excited to see how he takes the story.❤

The key for eradication of our dark thoughts is to embrace em. Never repeating cycle of trying to be something you are not. Hiding from your demons, you cannot run from yourself. Just like with OCD. You can never run from it, cure it but to embrace it, learn to live with it and accept who you are. You can make yourself feel better to feel as you are an bandito, blend with the people that are happy but that can only be done for short period of time, playing pretend. Blurryface = know your demons Trench = pretend to not have your demons, run from em but that will only make things worse, all your thoughts will boil out at one point, the feelings inside will make you weaker as tyler said " I grew weaker " SAI = be controled by your demons, as a result of keeping it in. Inferno = accept your demons, live with em.

I am wondering, is Nico so powerful that he can seize living vessels as seen when Tyler is struggling to fight him in the corridor in Fairy local, he looks like he's being strangled and then once seized the eyes go red and he appears to not be struggling anymore

However, what about Tyler getting Ned’s antlers? Like, he finally has a weapon to fight back, why would he all of the sudden be on the bishops side?

My theory is that the original Clancy from the letters is a completely different person. Clancy was a pseudonym they used to protect their identity in case their letters were ever discovered. Tyler adopts the name Clancy, because it’s a symbol of rebellion (red warrior/rebel red carnation). But that’s just a theory I honestly have no idea where the story’s going haha.

Okay am I looking at this weird… Clancy already has his yellow on when he gets his jacket out of the car and then later he says he ‘learns of the banditos and they show him their colors’ etc… I am sure I am missing something… but why did he already have the tape?

In addition to the information here, the new logo, with its sharp lines and curved edges, is very reminiscent to a superhero/antihero logo, compare it to the Deadpool logo for instance. Clancy becoming the antihero may not be too far fetched...

I think the lyrics from Nico and the Niners were pretty clear with "Start a mob and you can be quite certain / We'll win but not everyone will get out" We know that Clancy/Tyler is in Dema right now and I like to think that he's acting as the guy on the inside in Dema for the Banditos. So now he's going back to Trench to rally the Banditos, march into Dema and destroy the Bishops. I really like the theory of Clancy becoming a bishop though! Maybe he did become a bishop to have authority in Dema and use that authority for good, maybe help some citizens sneak out of Dema or something. Just imagine, Clancy's been helping citizens get out of Dema with the help of the Banditos and when they rally all of them to march back into Dema to destroy the Bishops they win. But not everyone gets out. Clancy has fought and died in the battle to help save all the others. That'd be quite a tragic but satisfying ending.

I wrote like two days ago on twitter that clancy could be the son of one bishop, that is why he can do the seizing! But I want to believe it will have an happy ending. Like we (clique and Josh) are the banditos. Tyler was almost giving up trying to run away from his mental illness, but we gave him strength to keep going. We gave him so many that he found out the solution it isn´t running away, he can actually fight against it! trying to save everyone from it, although it is impossible (not everyone will get out)! And we banditos have to become red warriors. Instead of using yellow so the bishops can't see us, we have to wear their religion colors and substitute them, applying different philosophy where hurting yourself is bad. We must not run away, we must fight... But that is what I want to believe the final will be...

This theory is the one I personally like the most and hope for. Just like you, I love a good anti hero and villain. I also love the theory that Tyler will replace Keons as a bishop. I can’t wait to see what happens!

I personally don't like this theory. This goes against the messaging of this band. As much as I like twist endings, I HAVE to believe this will end well. This HAS to have a happy ending. Good will win, and fear will lose, right?

@@JLAnderson_Music Actually I did hear about that one a while ago. Yeah I did have a hard time getting behind that one too. Now since we know that “clone” of Josh in the Choker mv was just a propaganda story made by Dema, it disproves that one even more. What I think this new era storyline is going to be is Tyler facing Nico and the Dema council as a final strike against them. Basically saying “come and get me”, hence the red tape. I don’t think Tyler would obtain this new power of seizing and then succumb to Vialism. Just doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t think it’s all going to be peace and flowers though. “We’ll win, but not everyone will get out”. People are going to die in the process
