Next time buy the retractable "tape" leash because the "cord" retractable is known to cause injuries to a human (even amputate fingers) and the dog. The thin rope-like cord of the retractable leash can cause severe burns, deep cuts, entanglement or strangulations. Or the human hits the stop button on the handle, it results in a sudden jerk that can cause neck wounds, lacerations to the trachea, and injuries to the spine.

I am afraid to because I had surgery recently on my wrist. I saw some trainers that wrap it around their thumb then grab it also . Very interesting way to hold a leash securely . :)

They also have a belt/band that you put around your waist and attach leash to it.

@SimplyRVing2611 I am talking about a regular leash with the loop at the end that I put around my wrist. I detest the retractable leashes. People let their dog walk 10' infront and they have no control of them if there is a danger ahead. I'm not talking about the training you were doing, but they also have long leads that you can use or get a horse lead.

I believe you but as a puppy , when she gets those zoomies she loses her mind and runs around like she is possessed.😂

I had a little Yorkie that used to run off every chance he got. My only saving grace trying to catch him was he understood the command to SIT. He would sit and not run off when I approached him. I thank GOD for that.

Before my last dog Muffin that recently died i had a yorkie. He was feisty with everyone but me . He was my baby before I adopted my son. :)

I'm so glad your training with Sitka to go home paid off. I'm 6 months ahead of you with two Jack Russell Terriers (turned one Dec. 10th) and they got out the front door a few weeks ago. I yelled come, they both turned around and came back immediately. So grateful they didn't run out in the street. Training pups while they're young is so important. Keep on it Lydia, you're a great mom!! Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!! ~M

I'm a single, 69 y/o man. I love your videos. Sometimes I feel so lonesome I wonder why I keep going. I have 2 daughters and 2 grandchildren I barely ever hear from anymore. Not to sound too dramatic, but your videos make me happy. Thank you.

What a scary experience for you thankful your both fine, because I didn’t want to break a hip with one of my Siberian huskies took professional class per instructor never use retractable leash of any kind very dangerous use leather leash and proud to say we both passed with flying colors, your fur baby is beautiful who is blessed having you❣️🐾

Thank you . I’m glad it worked out for you. I won’t be using a retractable leash anymore either with this dog. Different dog now and leashes for one breed don’t necessarily work for a different breed. This was a valuable lesson I learned. :)

God is taking care of you!!! Praise Jesus 🙏🙏🙏 We have a large inquisitive dog and we use a leash that has an option to wrap around our waist and it's awesome I highly recommend that you consider it.... Keep spreading the word because you are blessed!!!

I recently learned about those waist leashes and have been researching them . Easier to handle a powerful dog so they don’t knock you over when pulling. So many brands out there so I got to check the reviews.:)
