I Almost KILLED Our Small-block MOPAR! - Iron Empire EP 149
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this episode we take a deep dive into the 318 Mopar from our Dodge Dart, could this be opening a can of worms? Probably…

Next time you want to clean the top of pistons while still in the block, use gasket removal spray. CRC part number is 5021 👌
Torque converter/ hi stall converter and excessive transmission line pressure can push on the crank causing thrust issues
Hey Dude 😎. I like the unedited version who cares how long it is it makes it more real👍. Keep up the awesome work.
Factory pistons had valve reliefs on both sides of the pistons i.e. 4 reliefs to allow fitment to either bank. Very common - I had to put another crank in the 318 in my VG hardtop due to the same issue. Plenty of 2nd hand cranks floating around left over from stroker builds. You could go stupid, or just fit a 2nd hand crank, rings and bearings, lap the valves and button it back up. Either way hope to see it going soon 🤘🤘
Watched a few long car vids. Backshed has many. Like em.
Just source another 2nd hand crank Linish it Hone the block New rings and bearings Job done Keep rods, pistons cam Or maybe add in a small cam for a bit of Sound
Yer the unedited vids a good. Some are over done. An miss alot. Cheers
I’ve seen excessive wear like that on the shoulder of crankshafts, where the car had a manual transmission, and the owner had a habit of sitting at the traffic lights in first gear with the foot on the clutch and what that does, is, it pushes the crankshaft forward and chews the thrust bearings……. I don’t know, could be that I’ve certainly been warned over the years many times to not do that. I don’t know. Take it or leave it, supposedly pushes the whole rotating assembly forwards. ………
clear reason for crank failure is the Iron gods want a stroker.
This style of video works well Mark, thanks mate.
Good video really top stuff. secondhand crank, new cam and bearing maybe. Your so right about taking in info from the top engine builders. Can't wait to see how it works out.
So what happened and why isnt the thrust bearing worn, you ask....The answer is probably someone else has been there before you, seen the wear on the crank, replaced the thrust and maybe all the other crank bearings, buttoned it up and sold it on....
Enjoyed the vid nice one Mark spewin about the boat anchor but just keep the bolck so when you sell the dart its in the boot and matching numbers
Not boring at all, this is the stuff I subscribe for. Good work and fingers crossed for a cheap enough solution.
Pistons don't look to be what they used in aussie 318's. If you stick with them either block the deck or get new pistons which come up higher, i suppose u need to see which is the cheaper option. A mate of mine in Melbourne has a 318 crankshaft spare his selling, let me know if you are interested. Or u can really crank things up and go the 390 stroker crank option 😜😄
Put the 318 from the dart back together and leave it in the corner its the original matching number motor for that car if u ever sell it u have it just take the 318 u have on the shelf and clean it up a bit and drop it straight in u will be cruising in no time its usually the scenario with these motors once u start pulling them down they get more issues
Just put a second hand 318 crankshaft in it . If it ran ok just leave it alone. Thrust wear is caused by load pushing from the converter forwards somehow.
really enjoy your channel
This was never going to end well with that much end float. It's been starved if oil obviously.... I was also surprised how easily you lifted the main cap off, the cap registers must be screwed also.......
Interested to hear the cause/problem
Most damaged engines iv pulled down have had very dirty oil in them, 50 years of it, all the same deal
Your way is your way, just do it. 318 cranks a dime a dozen.
I found this video interesting because you talk through your thought process. If this format allows you to spend more time working on cars, and less on editing then that's a good thing.
That's not Handy...318 Eating its Self. Up... RIP 318 🙌
Ahhhhhh the 318 fireball had one of those catch on fire from a shit chrome glass fuel filter never buy glass filters hahahahaha
I liked this un edited video good to see
I've tried sending you information from last video, on where you can find fuel bowser handles via email, your emails bounce back, and I can't forward.

Your emails sound dodgy
Just so you know, I don’t have a 318 crank. Sorry bud.
Its shot whole engine is rubbish unless you spend cash on it.
