    @@williamrogers8299 It won't go back. New ICE is banned from being imported to a lot of states starting in 2035, so the demand is much higher and will only increase. I'd bet you every dollar in my accounts that these vehicles will increase in value not just in a year, but 3 years. I can debate this all day since I have been part of this market for years, bought and sold, seen the market demand and the miles long waiting lists for EVs. The market won't change much with the direction it's already headed in, which is up. Lithium mining (100% controlled by china now) is gonna get more expensive while we wait for lith-ion, lith-sulfur, dual-carbon, ferroelectric glass electrolyte, and others to meet market demand cost. On top of hydrogen ICE taking off right now. Most exotic cars do not depreciate unless you talking about trash models like early Gallardos from the 2010s and 2010s Maseratis no one wants. In fact, cars like the ferrari 458 have increased value for EVERY SINGLE YEAR THAT THEY WERE MADE (car gurus has excellent stats proving this). This one intrigues me because it's the first electric vehicle I could justify buying. The bed and frunk make it extremely useful and the range is actually pretty decent. It's also not that much pricier than some of the new gas powered trucks and it would actually make a significant dent in the gas savings on a truck (vs. a small car like other EVs compete against). If the charging bill is cheap enough it could actually replace my current pickup AND daily driver.

  • @jermwerty

    @jermwerty

    Жыл бұрын

    "If the charging bill is cheap enough" - uhh it costs 10% to "fuel" an EV vs gas costs if you charge at home. So you only need to pay for overpriced public charging if you need to dive >200 miles per day. And the whole point is because you are "fueling" at home you start out with 100% charge every morning! As soon as people realize this EVs make WAY more sense!

  • @joshleyva2249

    @@jermwerty probably should’ve worded it differently but what I really meant if the change in fueling vs charging is enough to offset the increased price of the car. On a smaller EV it isn’t because it would take years for me to recoup the costs on say a model 3 vs a hybrid or even a Civic. This truck seems to make more sense as it’s price is not too far out of range from a traditional fuel truck’s price and the potential to see a return on fuel savings is much greater

    Yes its an intriguing vehicle, but comparing it to only pricy top end gas trucks doesn't make sense. Yes you can pay Lightning price for the top end models, but you can get gas full size trucks for $30K, less than half the cost of any Lightning. Charging prices aren't necessarily cheap. It is where I live in the Midwest, but California and Hawaii? Plus its going to surge when EVs become mainstream, Obama even said as much "electricity prices will necessarily skyrocket". Not only that, the battery lasts 8 - 10 years and cost 35,960!!! You can get a brand new 4WD truck for that. And the gov't labeling EVs as zero emissions is the biggest lie ever told -- where I live electricity comes from coal!!! I'm not bashing the Lightening its very cool, just keeping in real.

    they rarely are cheaper, do this, compare the cost difference between the Electric version and the Gas Version, then take the CPM (Cost Per Mile) to drive both, multiply that by the number of miles you drive in a year and then see how many DECADES it will take for the electric to win on cost, then remember you will be replacing the battery before you hit that point and you realize unless gas is FOREVER held above like 6 bucks a gallon and you do Solar Panels that you stole to charge your vehicle that you will NEVER REACH COST PARITY.

    @@richardmorris7063 Towing won't adversely affect battery life on its own. Charging above 80% or letting the battery fall to zero regularly will do that, or letting the battery sit without charging / discharging it regularly. I suppose if you regularly tow a lot of weight that does mean more charge / discharge cycles, but as long as you don't treat the battery like crap I don't see it ending the battery's life 5-6 years early. All sorts of issues happen in ICE cars when you let them sit too. All in all, EV's are much less complicated and batteries will only continue to get better and electric motors will continue to get more efficient. China is trying out a "battery as a service" system that you pay a monthly subscription for. When your battery runs out of juice, you drive into an automated battery swap station and a robot swaps the battery out in the car for a freshly charged one in a process that only takes a few minutes. It may not be perfect, but I think a modular standardized battery system for EV's would be great. With a swappable battery bank, EV's could easily go 1M miles only needing to change the brakes and eventually suspension components.

    @@C4103 I must ask you how old are you? First of all, electric vehicles are incredibly complicated and in a lot of cases even the dealerships don't know how to fix them. The chinese swapping of batteries is nice, until you have to actually get to the service to do it, and after all, China is very different to Europe and America. The electric vehicles are only good for town driving and to be put in small city cars, not pick up trucks that are made for towing. The reliability is awful with any electric vehicle, because electronics are not like mechanical parts, which can break too but its way easier and less complicated to fix, people have been fixing mechanical parts since the first car was made. Just look at older electric vehicles or luxury vehicles that had tons of electronics in them, they are all selling for cheap, no one wants to fix them. And at the end, lets not even talk about the infrastructure of charging those cars and the gas that is used to produce the electricity to charge them.

  • @C4103

    @C4103

    @@davidmasterinjo I'm 36. It's true, 60% of electricity generation in America is currently done through fossil fuels but that varies per state. I have solar on my home that generates ~60-80kW / day during the summer on average. Even considering the amount of CO2 put into the environment during the manufacturing of an electric vehicle and the amount it would consume from grid sources over its lifetime, the efficiency of an EV still means it will put a lot less carbon into the environment. Tesla and other luxury EV manufacturers follow an Apple-like business model and are anti right to repair, but it doesn't have to be that way. It is possible to build a simple repairable EV, but like modern computers or smartphones no company wants to do it that way because they would last a long time and that would cut into profits. All in all if you do a lot of heavy towing a diesel truck is probably the way to go, but with the way a lot of people use pickups the f150 lightning probably makes a lot of sense.

You point out another issue there with the Lightning ER - it's a really heavy vehicle. At 7,500 lbs., curb weight is @ 50% greater than the typical V8 Chevy Silverado, and moving around all that extra weight takes extra energy - which requires more power from your local coal or gas-fired power plant. @Yippee Skippy No. As with gasoline or diesel trucks, adding a trailer will reduce the range by about half. So, ~115 miles for the lower-capacity battery, and ~150 for the extended range, in ideal conditions, and the truck will update its range in real-time to show the difference with a trailer attached. It may not be the best for long hauling, but for shorter trips (and certainly for businesses towing equipment around a town), it's quite enough.

Batteries at 10 years are on their last legs, but I've owned numerous reliable vehicles purchased for cheap that were >10 years old and >100k miles which had probably another 60-100k left without any major overhauls. Manufacturers aren't going to do it for free, and even a DIY job costs a large amount. (Though that doesn't matter for this case, of course.) Side note, but it leaves me actually worried about the future of cheap transportation for people who have no other option. (Talking a few decades in the future, of course.) Unless a breakthrough overcomes the battery life problem, the cheap $1k-5k cars one can grab today are bound to become scarce. (Maybe cars will move strongly to a lease/rent model to overcome this, though that'd be shit for consumers, haha.)

I always say there is a consumer market for a simple basic car or truck without all the features if some company wanted to go that route.....I mean do we really need dual touch screens with 50 levels of menus and options or will an analog speedo, tach and a few physical mechanical gauges with a radio and heater in the dash suffice .....my thoughts anyways

    @@prerunnerwannabe I just know how electronics work, heat and debris are the worst thing you can throw at them, something cars experience every day, the next worst things are cold and water, which OP even claims are "huge swings" in CO. Getting your battery zapped every day of winter and heat soaked every day of summer, with debris and average use, its not going to last. No matter what you do, keeping it in the driveway is doing damage to it just like using it is. Its designed to fail, unless you think car engineers are unaware of heat and cold, lol.
