DO NOT use a flathead screwdriver to open the key fob housing! The tip of your emergency key is the tool to open it, it fits in the "slot" he talks about.

@@kennethdotsey5295 don't give up. My spare 2016 Sonata key, which had been sitting in the closet for 6.5 years, seemed to be stuck also. I'd push the little release button and the key would not release. I kept trying and with a little more force than I was applying, it finally released. Changed the battery and now back in business.

To remove the back I use the manual key. Release the manual key with the button. Slide the key out about 3/4. Twist the key and release the back. No need for a screwdriver. Note: I don't touch the battery with bare fingers. I use a glove to keep the battery free of any body oils, etc.

I should’ve just watch this video instead of thinking I need to go to the dealer thanks got it done in two minutes and luckily my local pharmacy had it

I have to say this video may have destroyed many fobs and more eventually. By using the flat screw head near area described, you may inadvertently break the latch to hold in the metal key. Might as well put a link to a Amz for replacement shell.

This video used a screwdriver to open the batteries which was much easier than trying to use the key to do it.

Thanks for making this video. I changed the battery myself by watching this video, and get on the road again.

If you want, you don't nees a screwdriver. You can just use the key itself to open the casing.

This literally popped a chunk of the latch piece off. Wish I would’ve seen the comments about not using a flat head 😠

Mine is a 2016 Hyunda Sonata Hybrid Limited. Process is similar except that battery was behind the motherboard when I popped open the fob casing. Had to gently lift out the motherboard to expose the battery. Just be sure to put components back together where the align.

My key for a 2019 hyundai sonata (I think it's the SEL model car) looks exactly the same as this key (at least on the outside). I followed the instructions, but inside the key fob looks very different. I don't see any battery... can someone please help me?

Mine is a 16, I found it behind the motherboard, hopefully that helps

Mine is a 2016. When popping open, it did not separate like the video shows. It separated between the motherboard and the connectors. I had to gently lift out the mother and align that with the connectors. Underneath the motherboard was the battery. I had two key fabs which I replaced the batteries. Had to add these extra steps to replace the battery in each one. Just be sure to align the connectors and motherboard correctly. Worked fine.

These people might get some instructions right but this video does not apply to a 2016 FOB take it to the dealer

Battery is behind the motherboard / circuit board. Gently have to lift out to expose the battery.

Does the key Fob have to be reprogrammed after you replace the battery?

Nope. Just replaced the batteries in both of my fobs, tested both on my car and they work perfectly.

This is not the right key fob for 2016 Hyundai Sonata

Now my key won’t click

It’s not a perfect video because using a flathead driver can scratch or worse, break the key fob. Use the key itself and the fob comes apart easily

Would t recommend, my key doesn’t pop back in now ….
