...Source: insideevs.com/news/720134/hyu... Transcript: Per InsideEVs, the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric's EPA-rated range is 261 miles, a 3-mile increase from 2023. Europe's WLTP estimates the range at 319 miles. The long-range model offers 64.8 kWh of battery capacity, up from 64 kWh previously.
KZread creator Kris Rifa tested the Kona's highway efficiency at 75 mph. Conditions were optimal with temperatures at 57°F and low wind speeds. Kris reported an average consumption of 20.3 kWh per 62 miles during mixed driving.
On the return trip, against the wind, the consumption increased to 21.4 kWh per 62 miles. The vehicle traveled 132 miles and had 33 miles of range left with 18% battery remaining. The Kona charged at 90 kW from a 150 kW station at 19% state of charge, nearing its 100 kW max speed.
Kris estimated the Kona could reach 184 miles on a full charge, achieving 62.6% of its WLTP rating. This is slightly less than the Volvo EX30's 63.6%. Using the EPA rating, the test achieved 70.5% of the combined range estimate. The Kona Electric is expected to launch in the US this year.
