Thanks, for this video, I've now just done this on my 2011 IX35. Didn't have much adjustment left on the nut but think it made a difference, I now get just 6 x clicks before the handbrake is fully on. Remember to release the handbrake first before doing this.

Just did mine - but I had some electronic thing below the plastic bar, so couldn't get at the adjuster nut; had to use a 10mm socket to take the bracket off (holding this leccy thing), and was able to adjust. Not sure if I missed it on the video, but the handbrake need to be off to adjust the nut

Wow! I just got charged £60 a month or so ago for this exact job being done but it's away again and needs fixed again. Gonny give it a try, I'm no mechanic by any means but this looks simple 🙈 wish me luck 🤣🤣

It's the same setup for a Kia Soul 2016 but a 10mms socket. The hardest part was getting the cover off.

Before adjusting anything, pull the handbrake on and look at that spreader bar that pulls on the handbrake cables. It should be at right angles to the central rod with that adjuster nut. If it's sitting at an angle, one brake cable is being pulled further than the other. That indicates a fault with the brake caliper on that side. The handbrake mechanism in the caliper itself has probably seized up due to corrosion. That needs to be fixed first.

Hope this isn’t a stupid question, but do you have to make the adjustment with the handbrake off i.e. disengaged and fully down?

Sorry to say that's not how you adjust it. You first adjust it at the rear wheels. Then if needed at the in car adjustment. All your doing there is stretching the cable instead of adjusting the pads due to wear from using it. I wish people wouldn't put this on as "adjusting your park brake" all your doing is creating a problem for mechanics to fix the issue.

I have to disagree. Yes you can 'adjust' the handbrake with the brake shoe adjusters at the wheels themselves... but that is only to take up any 'slack' due to brake shoe wear to balance the two brakes. How are you possibly going to "stretch" the cable ? It doesn't matter if you shorten the overall length of the mechanism from one end or the other in order to adjust it and this is the easiest and 'correct' way. If you find you have no more adjustment to go so have to use the 'adjusters' on the brake shoes themselves it is most likely that the shoes are worn out and you need to fit new ones. Martyworkshop is correct.
