Hyundai Ioniq 5 Driven Completely Out Of Charge! | Drive 2 Death

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 in India gets a 72.6kWh battery pack and rear-wheel drive. While its claimed range stands at a lofty 621km, we set out to see what the car is capable of in the real world. In this episode of drive to death, we take the Ioniq 5 through city traffic, multiple sets of inclines and through open highways to get the most complete picture of what real world range this electric car can truly deliver and we also find out what happens once the car’s battery runs out completely!

    I read a report somewhere that since deliveries started in April, Hyundai has so far sold more than 750 already. They had a target of 500 for the whole year. For a ₹50 lakh Hyundai that runs on exotic (for now) energy, that is really good. They are amazing cars. I saw a white one recently. Looks astonishing

    What if you had turned off AC later in the evening (cooler parts of the day), how much more range would you have gained? Also, If someone with a good skills of letting the car coast as much as it can and be very light on the A pedal would be able to get? maybe 10-15% more range? your thoughts?

  • @zigwheels

    @zigwheels

    Hard to say based on the “what ifs” with these hypermiling add ons. Even we did coast or dial in more regen when possible. 10-15% more range would be possible with limited AC use based on the on board range displayed. Even more range could be extracted with lower highway speeds.

    "You wont be charging up as often as you might have imagined" bro charge karne ke liye, first I should be able to buy it no 😭 With real world range of over 400kms (easily), I don't think at least 80% of the people who can afford this and will buy it will even be worried. But as with any EV, what happens after 8 years (or whatever the time/kms warranty is) when warranty runs out (assuming you have munched miles and miles)? Unlike ICE cars, i would assume the effeciency drop would be considerably more. ICE cars can be fixed to become almost as good, but what about EVs? I would imagine the only way to do with getting a new battery pack (or part of it, if it works that way) and it would be a costly affair even if you consider prices dropping in future. And this will drastically affect the resale no?

  • @zigwheels

    @zigwheels

    Жыл бұрын

    Range anxiety (rather, lack of range clarity) exists irrespective of how much the car costs. Even a Porsche Taycan buyer will be curious about this. As for battery life or efficiency loss, it’s all a function of drive patterns and charging schedules. Yes, in the long run the deliverable range can drop but that’s also the case with ICE vehicles. There’s no cheat code around ageing or wear and tear. Importantly, the battery replacement fear is rather extreme. There are child parts like the cells/modules that can be replaced individually. A full battery pack replacement is as extreme as an engine/transmission replacement - relatively rare but very much something that happens with petrol/diesel cars with a strong impact on resale too

  • @TheLazyWandererMys

    @TheLazyWandererMys

    Жыл бұрын

    @@zigwheels Yes, but with ICE vehicles, the efficiency doesn't drop drastically if not abused. But in case of EV (again, my assumption) the charge cycles will drop the efficiency much sharply. Also in ICE, simple gaskets, plugs, filters oil change can make a very noticeable difference in efficiency of old vehicles. In case of an EV, I think the savings you do over the years, will eventually be affected in terms of battery module replacement and/or resale value. P.S. I am not saying EVs are bad, just my middle class mindset doing the calculations when i still cant even afford a basic EV 😂😂😂

  • @_shreyash_anand

    @@TheLazyWandererMysunlike a combustion car, which loses power and efficiency as it gets driven, an electric motor doesn't lose any efficiency. After 2 lakh km, this will still be just as fast as when it is brand new. A diesel won't be. Also, battery degradation is really minimal. The oldest Tesla Model S's in the States are now 10 years old, and having done 3-4 lakh km, and being mostly DC fast charged, they still have greater than 90% battery capacity remaining. No combustion engine will be 90% as efficient as now after that long. They also don't need oil changes, plugs done or injector replacements. No belts to be replaced. Even the brakes last way, WAY longer. A lot of this electric cars not lasting long is an urban myth. Modern EVs, especially those with liquid cooled battery packs are basically bulletproof.

  • @TheLazyWandererMys

    @TheLazyWandererMys

    8 ай бұрын

    @@_shreyash_anand fair argument. Tesla batteries may not degrade that fast But not every battery is of the same quality. Also incase of ICE vehicles, if performance dips, a few things can get it back to close to new. ICE requires maintenance but require far lower initial investment. Neither are bad. One may argue EVs are greener, but when you factor in who the Lithium is mined and how it's supposed to be disposed of, the green factor goes down drastically. So am I against EVs? Definitely no! I enjoy each type of vehicle. And EVs are fun too. But yes I love ICE vehicles more and intend to enjoy them as long as they last. 😁
