Hyundai I30N Fastback - Disconnected Bi-Modal Valve Experiment

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A bit of experimentation with disconnecting the Bi-Modal Exhaust Valve on the I30 Fastback N.
I experienced no issues with disconnecting the plug (with vehicle switched off) in terms of error codes or limp mode activation, but reverted back to factory configuration as the novelty quickly wore off.
The obvious first step for more noise is to have a resonator delete modification done.

Another way to do this would be to just remove the fuse for the bi-modals. Was a quick backyard mod for the VF SS when they started coming out with bi-modals. If it’s anything like that you had to first put the car into sport/track mod or open exhaust in the System settings on the head unit, then pull the fuse. Either way. Results should be the same. 🤙🏼

Will have a look into that method. Would be a lot easier to do. 👍

Have you fitted a Res delete yet? I’m looking at getting the RPM Anti Drone Res delete for my i30N and just wondered what the sound difference would be?

No res-delete yet Ric. Still tossing up whether to go a mid-pipe or not, the obvious difference is cost between the two but I would like it to be reversible with no modification of the standard system, so I am leaning towards a mid-pipe at this stage. Sounds great either way you go though.

So, when you unplug does the flap already have to be open? Does it throw any error codes?

This was more so an experiment rather than a long term solution. When the plug is not connected the valve motor isn't energised so it will stay open. I didn't experienced any codes either as I believe it doesn't affect emission control as it is at the end of the system. Another viewer claimed it saw a significant rise in fuel consumption, however, I have not verified this. Again with making changes to a vehicle it is at your own individual risk.

How would one do this? Is it a plug in the engine bay? If so, whereabouts?!

On the right handside exhaust tip you will see a plug connecting to a little electric motor (that controls the flap), it is that plug.

@@CrackingGate What about water damage to the connector, now that it's no longer plugged tight?

the consumption will climb to god..i doing that when i have already 17 liters and after unplugged i was 28.. also be careful with the gear changes because the movement of the car will become sluggish and delay behave after you release the clutch after gear change..
