Hyundai Chainsaw Test & Review! Are cheap Petrol Chainsaws Worth It?

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

In this video we test and review the Hyundai Chainsaw! Or officially known as Hyundai 62cc 20” Petrol Chainsaw, 2-Stroke Easy-Start | HYC6200X .
When it comes to chainsaw price this saw was really cheap! Its by far the cheapest chainsaw I own. I paid £104.16 + VAT for this saw! The price is almost too good to be true! An absolute bargain.
The equivalent Stihl or Husqvarna saw would set you back over £800! compared to a budget price of £104 +vat
If your a homeowner, Farmer, Contractor, forester, or are even live in a wooded area where trees could fall down and block the road then its worth considering buying this petrol chainsaw. ( Gas chainsaw if your from the USA)
Even if your a professional tree cutter, tree surgeon or arborist then I dont think there's noting wrong with having this as a spare saw in the back of the truck to get you out of trouble.
If you want to see how to change the bar and chain on this saw you can see it here on KZread:

Nice to see a demo video of the product, bought a PiPE 6220 first as cutting felled trees for firewood, easy to use but have issues with parts. Hyundai replaced parts for free with no issues as the warranty covers it. Now in possesion with the HYC6200X, a little better but again you pay for what you get, far better than spending £300 plus for a well-known brand. So long you use for light household use it's a good product.

Have got 2 of these hybundai chainsaws, for the money you really can't go wrong. Have had them for 2 years got through a fair bit of work felling small to medium trees. Only real issue is a failure of the starting pull cord as the plastic inserts failed. I would definitely recommend

Had mine about two years, just for around the house. Can't fault it for the price, had to use the warranty as the pull starter went on mine but it was replaced with zero hassle, three year warranty!!. I think the pull starter is the weakest point on the saw, it's a plastic toothed mechanism that can break quite easily so be careful to make sure you always have the decompression valve pressed in while starting it.

I bought a husqvarna hedge trimmer last year and also a Hyundai 3in1 multi tool and I can guarantee if I was to go out to the shed now and try and start the Husqvarna I’d be still pulling the cord at at midnight but the Hyundai three pulls and it’s up and running really impressed with it. And as I’m in the market for a chainsaw I think you know which way I’m going with that. I only need one for when ones needed like today when I lost out on a load of wood when a tree came down in the village blocking the lane.🤬🤬🤬🤬

@user-cv3wq7pt3f for the money this is a good buy. But it’s not a pro chainsaw. Every chainsaw has a chain tightening screw. When the chain is new it will stretch. You need to keep it tight. And make sure the chain oil is pull as well. That’s the bit of advice I would give. Hope it helps 😊

I have one of these and my first time using it it broke within 5 minutes! Hyundai sent out a replacement part to be fair but it then broke again in a different place. They sent a new saw this time and I used it all day Friday felling large Sitka spruces and it performed just as well as the other saws which were all Stihl. Only thing id recommended for you if you are going to use it is watch the chain brake. It’s not the most sturdy construction in the world, particularly a tiny metal pin on the plastic inside that is prone to falling out rendering the brake useless. Always use the decompression valve to. My starter recoil shattered on mine so they ain’t made for repeated pulling so you wanna get this thing started in as few pulls as possible. Finally, run a .325 3/8 file over the chain as while the stock chain is surprisingly good quality you can hone the edge much more as I found out.

Happy to help! Was a busy felling season this year up in North Wales with all the ash dieback as wet as the big storms we had. Put this thing through it’s paces to say the least and it came out the other end, damaged in some cases but defiant nonetheless. If it does break get onto Hyundai and the customer service team are usually happy to send you new parts free of charge to. Roll on the next felling season!

You need to consider how you are going to cut and avoid the cut closing up and pinching the chain. If the timber is supported at both ends and you cut from the top as you get most of the way through it will close up. Start from the top and then finish from underneath. You don't need to do this if the timber is supported from one end only as the cut will open as you cut through.

Fair point. Of course a £800 saw is better and would potentially last longer, have more power ect The manufacturer says you can get parts no problem which is a bonus. Someone who only needs a saw now and again I think this is a viable option. The rate tree cutters charge you would pay this saw off in an afternoon!

How do find starting it from cold? Have you got any tips to make life a bit easier? I've had mine fire up on the 2nd pull and other times I'm knackered after putting so much energy into getting it going. I've used chainsaws for over 20 years so experienced enough. I don't know if I've been lucky or if other people have been unlucky but for the most part I think the Hyundai chainsaws are great value for money. Like a lot of people I was disappointed and felt a bit cheated to find that they're Chinese made with the brand name stuck on. Even then, the fact that they offer a 3 year warranty on their stuff has to be a good thing as they won't want to continually send out replacement parts. I've got the 62cc model you're using here. The only thing that did concern me from the beginning was the flimsy looking chain tensioner. Sure enough, after some solid use the plastic around the tensioner screw had slowly melted and the teeth on the little cog/screw things were all chewed up so I couldn't adjust the chain. The UK importer who deal with the warranties asked for photos and an explanation of what happened. Once they got them a new part came a few days later no problem! I can see it going again before the 3 years is up. After that I'll have to buy the part which isn't the end of the world. But considering that the husqvarna equivalent was six times the price of this saw and it didn't come with an extra chain or a bag I don't mind paying. Even then if I got fed up with the saw I can sell it for spares or repair and buy a brand new one with another 3yr warranty! I've worked mine quite hard some days, felling and cross cutting 24" main trunk no problem. I also have the 2400w electric chainsaw with a 16" bar. Plenty power, doesn't need tools, it's got a nifty self tensioning feature on it which is great. I paid £76 for a new refurbished model with a 12 month warranty. Its practically maintenance free and you don't have to faff on with petrol and a pull start. Cuts through 16" logs no problem. And my favourite is the 60v battery powered chainsaw with a 12" bar. Again almost completely maintenance free, just a brush down after use. You don't need any tools, the tensioner is on the side and dead easy to adjust it. The battery lasts about the same time as a tank of 2 stroke petrol so having a spare charging while the other is being used is advised. I was lucky. Brand new saw on offer for £200 with a 3yr warranty. I tracked down another battery which came with a charger, then I saw two more advertised, so I've got an incredibly easy to use saw, maintenance free (mostly) and 4 batteries means i can use it all day. I regularly cut through 12" logs and branches with it, it does shorten the battery life but I've got 3 spares😀 The quality isn't quite there with stihl or husqvarna but that's not a problem, they'll last me for years at a fraction of the cost of the big brands saws. I only meant to ask if you had any tips to make cold starting a bit easier and more consistent, I ended up doing a review of my three Hyundai chainsaws! I haven't used my stihl or husky for ages now, partly because they need a good service and some parts replacing after using them for years, but other than one saw having a slightly flimsy tensioner and can be a pain to start when it's deciding to be awkward, it's a pleasure to use these saws, the electric and battery saws make life so much easier to start, use, and clean afterwards. Overall, not perfect (apart from the battery saw which is perfect!) but amazing value for money 👍 I should be on commission from Hyundai 😀

Shit product. I ordered the carving model, around 25 cc I believe. I had high hopes because of the top brand name Hyundai. They make super solid high quality products, cars, excavators and they are one of the few car making companies investing and making hydrogen driven cars. However... they dilute their name by this product, it's a shitty product and it keeps running, I just can't stop it from running, it overheats quickly, the canister to mix the gasoline with the oil leaks when you start shaking it... I want to return it after just having used it for 1 minute. I found out that Hyunday Powertools is a spin out of the Hyundai corporation. So a company paid a lot of money for basically selling shit under the brandname Hyundai. It has nothing to do anymore with the Hyundai superbrand. Brandnames fool people all the time and many top brands want to profit from the lower and medium section of their market and rent out their name to be sticked on low end products.

Thanks for the review. I have only used this saw once. Granted it’s a bigger saw 62cc but I thought it worked out great. I am pleased with it. If it’s not Hyundai who makes it?

@@gwenyngruffydd On the box it says : "Made in China, Licenced by Hyundai Korea". It is unlikely that Hyundai will produce their machines in China. Who made it , I don't know, but Hyundai for sure gets a lot of money for this license and it works... I am not a dummy, I use chainsaws of Stihl, Jonsered and Husqvarna daily. I fell into this trap, really believing that Hyundai would not lower themselves by licensing out their name for shit products. Very disappointing to realize that it's all about money, revenue, profit, return on investment etc.

Shit product you say, and then go on to rant about a different product. It's a generic production, customised and then sold by numeorus different companies, a little research before you bought it would tell you that. I guess you didn't do that. This happens with a massive amount of products. And what exactly were you expecting for this price range? If you wanted to send it back after 1 minute it seems you made your mind up early, and if it was faulty, then you should have sent it back. From what i've read, most buyers are happy with it and it runs well and does the job, which for the price is very good. Seems like there is a small percentage out there that will get models with faults, so send it back, one thing you do get with Hyundai is good customer service and a good warrenty, which is where the Hyundai name comes in.

I believe that. But their not up to professional level yet. Show me a battery saw than can go all day on a charge, or a battery chainsaw with a bar bigger than 20” The battery will be the future 100% but their definitely not ready for pro use yet. It’s the same with electric cars v 4x4 trucks and lorry’s. Electric car is no problem different story when you need to carry heavy weight and tow.

Couldn’t be more wrong in my opinion. I’d like to see you felling 40cm diameter trees with an electric saw. They make great hobby saws but they lack the practicality of a petrol saw.
