    The most fascinating ghost town in Akkala to me is Old Tarrey Town, with its abandoned goddess statue. It's likely where civilian employees of the Citadel lived in days long past.

    For me, the ghost towns are the biggest win for BotW as they were quite unique to this game. Especially places like Akkalla Citadel, which were imposing without needing to be part of the main story. Those places made Hyrule feel more alive! Ironically At the same time they highlighted the feeling of repetition in Tears of the kingdom. They appeared again, unchanged. There could have been so many things to do with them; especially akkala citadel! You could have thought that in an effort to retake Hyrule, that a CITADEL could be handy. Very dissappointed

    4:06 There is also a possibility that the mountain outpost was abandoned before or after an eruption on Death Mountain. It can be seen that the ruins are buried under volcanic rock, which could suggests that at one time that part of the mountain was covered by lava.

  • @oucyan
    @oucyan3 ай бұрын

    I think the outpost was destroyed by the lava flow from Death Mountain. all the trees in the area are dead, and the rock is clearly hardened lava rock.

    Always found Akkala to be a funny name. If it were Finnish, it would mean "place associated with hags" from "akka" which means "hag" (or witch, but only as an insult), and "-la" which is a common place name ending.

    I speculate that those scattered buildings in Akkala region were residential spaces for very small group of soldiers patrolling the area. 1st, those ruins are close to Akkala Citadel and were possibly within the patrol range of the soldiers. 2nd, Akkala region, if I remember correctly, lacks lush forests. I doubt that commoners survived in those isolated buildings when the supply of food is unstable. Hunting may have been an option, but a difficult one, since the lack of forests strictly limits the variety of animals inhabiting the area. Lastly, it's a hilly region which makes it terrible for farming. And even if the people did, the produce would have drawn wild animals, putting themselves in danger.

    I like to think that the outpost by typhlo is a worst case scenario defense outpost. We know Akkala is largely unpopulated as the citizen is built at the land entrance to Akkala, not on the ocean. This means Akkala was likely used as a place for Hyrule to fight off invaders on both land and sea. The only geographical issue of fighting in Akkala is that someone could potentially take the very long road around death mountain to invade, thus, an outpost would be needed

    Shadow Hamlet in Eldin on the east side of Death Mountain is also one of those places that will make you ask how this location was even accessible and who would even want to live here. It makes me think of the timeline before BOTW, which would make these ruins nearly ancient.

    I'm having a spicy snack, so ill give a somewhat spicy comment 😂. Absolutely love these videos and am happy that you're still covering totk. It's sad to see others like Zeltik either abandon videos on them, or make 2 hour long videos basically saying what a disappointment it was (granted, I didn't watch that because 2 hours for a yt video is insanely long). There's so much to this game that I think creators abandoned because it's not what they expected, not much different than botw (which is incorrect), ect. Keep up the amazing work!!

    I guess I feel the same way about the Akkala Region to being similar to my hometown in Scotland up the North-East of Fife in a way, with it just being wet and marsh all over the place, because there's never not a day where it hasn't rained. It's like a very cozy place to be, it feels at home.

    There's an odd beauty to the towns being reclaimed by nature after the Calamity. It's like life born from death...Or like the world reclaiming is beauty from the pollution humans brought upon it...first the Hylians, then Ganon.

    7:59 since how I doubt the destruction was from the calamity, the burned land would’ve been reclaimed more, but it definitely wasn’t something that happened only a few days prior. I imagine there might’ve been a quest to get revenge on the wizrobe if it was very recent. I suspect it was maybe a year or two prior to botw since it has some growth back but it’s still very much scorched land and wood. There is mention in botw about monsters becoming more common in the months/years leading up to the start of the game. So perhaps this wizrobe destroyed this village during that time.

    In my opinion, having so many ghost towns and ruins almost make BotW and TotK feel more real than most other open world games. A lot of open world games already get complaints of not feeling lived in, but even the more populated ones like Skyrim don't feel all that... Real. There's a considerable lack of ruins and ghost towns. Yes, BotW and TotK both have the excuse of "there was a recent apocalyptic event" as an explanation for a lot of the ruins, but even in the real world there are a lot of places that show the history of the land. Using Skyrim as an example, there's a considerable lack of ghost towns and ruins. Helgen gets destroyed by Alduin right at the beginning, and the timelessness of games means that they can't really have other towns ruined by dragons. But the dragons aren't the only apocalyptic event that the land has faced. In Winterhold, they often mention the Great Collapse, which was less than a century prior, but the only ruins of the disaster is one destroyed house despite Winterhold having supposedly been great enough to be its own country and rival Solitude. Skyrim was apparently besieged during the Oblivion Crisis, with the Old Holds (Winterhold, Eastmarch, The Reach, The Pale) being laid waste by Daedra, and yet there's no sign of that damage anywhere, no ruins of any kind. Yeah, it was a couple of centuries prior, but "laid waste" suggests a few small settlements would have been wiped out and larger settlements should have had numerous deaths, and yet there is no sign of the event. The College of Winterhold claims that the Red Year was the cause of the Great Collapse, and yet even Solstheim barely, also affected by the events of Morrowind, only has ash to suggest anything happened. The only ruins are Dwemer ruins, with the Dwemer having vanished thousands of years prior and yet their ruins still being in good condition, as well as, if you want to count them, Nord Burial Tombs, which are also in very good condition considering how old they are. But look at Zelda, and on top of the more recent ruins from the Great Calamity, there are plenty of ruins, from abandoned towns and houses to Zonai structures to even the old Hyrule Castle and Temple of Time.

    I assume the residents of Akkala were a hearty folk, and actually could deal with the Guardians that wandered into their area using their expert bow skills, and for a time could even handle the monsters no longer being killed by the Hyrule Guard. However, when the first Blood Moon occurred, they were caught off guard. All the monsters they had killed had returned for revenge. Despite their determination, after a few Blood Moons, eventually the monsters found out where each of them lived, and thus they had to flee or die, heading to other villages where they could find safety in numbers against the Blood Moon threat.

    I think the flashbacks to when zelda is in the past takes place before Oot because of the temple of time placement. The zoni raru and his wife must have had a kid before they died. This was likely a male, and he married a garudo, and that is the hero we see in the accpect. Time passed, and the zoni blood lost its potency in appearance. Raru, the sage of light from OoT is a decendent likely why the name was passed down. The sheika being banished lines up with the hyrule Civil War and all the theory's surounding the sheika and the arbortors grounds. Totk zelda being a dragon through all three timelines. When the monment she goes back in time, the timelines are unifed. That would make this the proper end to the split timeline. Also, the sky temple in Twilight Princess is probably zoni tech. They probably helped the little chikens with faces. If they had forsight of botw, then they probably did of all the timelines. I wonder if there is now a way to tie some old mysteries to the zoni.
