    Certainly one of the most visually recognisable ships of the past Soviet Union fleet (much as the USS Long Beach was to the USN), the Russians could've done far worse in overhauling and upgrading these leviathans of the seas. The fact so many of their greatest naval assets were built around the classes main weapon system was brilliant...then pack it with the other minor offensive & some major defensive power, that many lesser nations would be lucky to have throughout their entire military, was just awesome. The Russians of the Soviet Union era certainly built em big, and built em to fight. A travesty they couldn't convert the Kirov and/or the Frunze into floating museum's as marks of respect to the era they served in (as could've the USN with the Long Beach). Nonetheless an impressive video of a bygone great of the seas. Cheers from Sydney!!!!

    The Kirov class is synonymous with the WW2 Japanese Yamato Class battleships. These warships were the most powerful ships of their type in the world and impressive and scary to anyone that observed them. However, they were immensely expensive to build and operate. In the end these ships only were only a testament to how many torpedoes and bombs it took to sink them. The two Kirov's are equally as scary as the Yamato's were. They however are only two ships with one being laid up at any one time. In a future conflict they will be the attractor of every missile and torpedo that the enemy can throw at them. They will go down gloriously but serve no further purpose.

The surprising bit is how they actually stood for that long and effectively saved the rest of their fleet by eating all the fire up, one can't really argue they were defeated by anything but raw brute force... If the kirov can stand half as much in modern equivallent, it'll still need a full carrier task group to take out!

    While the stats are "impressive" if you like that sort of thing, the practical combat power of a surface combatant that surrenders air superiority is basically nil. 20 shots, regardless of how fast or how big the payload is a woefully small number of missiles, a USN Carrier Airwing can launch 192 AGM-84 in a single strike that will mean even if the Kirov is 100% accurate there are still 96 missiles inbound. Cruising below the radar horizon is only an issue for Navies that don't have AEW aircraft, which of course the USN has in bulk. Large ships and undoubtedly beautiful ships but ultimately, useless ships.

    Not a great start to your Video calling it a Battlecruiser, they are not. They are officially “large Guided Missile Cruisers”. Battlecruisers were designed to act as the Scouts of a Battle Fleet. The Kirov class are in fact much closer to being Battleships, they are at the centre of your Battle Fleet, and are the Flagships, not off Scouting.

  • @hypohystericalhistory8133

    @hypohystericalhistory8133

    Well, they are typically referred to as Battlecruisers by western analysts. This is because of their displacement and the fact that large cruisers were routinely referred to as battlecruisers. So, this is an extremely nit picky comment. Finally, battle cruisers were not initially designed to act as scouting vessels, although they were briefly used in that fashion is World War One. Their primary design goal was to hunt down cruisers and destroy them, which is why they were typically only protected against 8 inch armament. So if you are going to leave nit picky comments based on what name we should call a vessel, at least get your facts straight.

What is curious is that everyone needs to update their systems to AI because there is potential for warfare. You, all of freaks intend there to be warfare. No person asked for that which will significantly impact their families. You who breathe warfare should do just that. There should not be warfare conflict in this modern world where everyone can simply talk to each other.
