My uncle was one of the greatest generation of soldiers that helped free Europe from Hilter, he was killed in action the night of July 12th 1944 in France. God rest all there souls, I truly hope there is a special place in a heaven for them. I never met my uncle but I have one picture of him that I treasure it hangs along side the picture of my US Army son who serves today. God bless soldiers everywhere in all lands that defend and protect our freedoms.

As an Australian, the Vietnam War Memorial in D.C. (3.03 - very appropriately) is THE most profoundly moving memorial I have ever seen. To see the names of the first and last casualties brought me to tears. Over 60,000 Australians, including ground troops and air force and navy personnel, served in Vietnam; 523 died as a result of the war. At the going down of the sun - we will remember them.

Mr. Graves, Sir, As an American vet of that time frame and also as one who traveled lived and worked in your great nation, I can not begin to extend to you and your countrymen the exemplary kindness and generousity that was displayed and shown, many times during my 13 months in Australia. Where ever I went to and what ever I was doing, I was always humbled with the care and deep affection shown . We sir, do remember you and your countries sacrifices to this endeavor for which we owe you a debt of gratittude and love. This old tired veteran salutes you Sir. " I will get you home. There were no bands playing for me when I returned from HELL. I rode the CTA, to my parents home, remember sleeping in the bushes. I got back on that CTA bus, went back to where I was running from, finished my service in the 82nd Airborne. Still have nightmares... Always will. My parents never knew what their son endured, God rest their souls.

I lost my Uncle in WWII. He died in Italy. I never had a chance to meet him. I wonder what his life could have been. I’ve traveled extensively in Europe and have visited many American Cemeteries. The thousands that made the ultimate sacrifice and the millions that served have my deepest respect. The greatest generation saved all of us.

I too lost my uncle in the Pacific. He was a naval aviator shot down over Japan in Feb1945. A fine man I never met but grew to know through stories from my family. May they all rest in peace, and mayall the families heal knowing these men died fighting for us. There is a misperception that those killed are a momentary loss quickly overlooked by the passing of time. In reality, those loses are a gapping hole which last for generations!

That hug at the end brought tears. Deep, deep respect for our men and women in uniform. And for the sacrifices they make every day. I wish I could hug every one of them. BTW. The Marine ( Staff Sergeant Tim Chambers) who is standing at attention and saluting does that annually at The Rolling Thunder event in DC. His way of honoring our fallen. He stands there unmoving for over 5 hours under the terrible heat showing his deep respect and love for his fallen brothers in arms. The sight of him doing this every year brings me to tears. What a fine man. Sadly, this year (2019) was the last for Rolling Thunder in DC. This was the last time we shall see Sgt. Chambers standing his vigil. Makes me very sad. Thank you! A thousand times THANK YOU!! 🇺🇸❤🇺🇸❤🇺🇸

@@DonB.-Mulefivefive Every Memorial Day and every time I see our beautiful flag I always embrace this thought. WHEN YOU SEE OUR BEAUTIFUL FLAG FLUTTERING OVERHEAD, REMEMBER THAT IT IS NOT THE WIND THAT STIRS IT. IT IS MOVED BY THE DYING BREATH OF EVERY SOLDIER WHO LAID DOWN HIS LIFE TO DEFEND IT. If we ever fail to honor this truth we shall surely loose who we are as a nation. Wishing you the best this Memorial Day weekend. 🇺🇸🇺🇸❤🇺🇸🇺🇸❤🇺🇸🇺🇸

@@ellisonhamilton3322 I had the privilege and honor, of having applied to and being accepted as one of the few National Park Service Rangers, to work the kiosk and The Wall on nights. I can not now , nor will I ever be able to , put into words from my perspective or experiences, what this all means to me. What I saw , were many people, through out the long rainy cold nights , who would come and spend a few minutes , or linger for hours , tracing names and slowly walking the entire length of The Wall . All I can tell you is, those who were lucky enough to escape this earth as we know it now, would be among the first to object to our present lack of leadership .

I have asked my wife everyday, that same question, that one, the "elder" Ryan, asked his wife, at that "French, American and Allied Cemetry", in the Final Sceen of Spielberg's, "Saving Private Ryan." "Have I been a Good man?" I married my wife, "6 years" after, returning from the Vietnam War '67-'69. I was a Combat Medic and this sceen is like an unexpected "Gut Punch" each time I view it. I lived, elder Ryan's final sceen, when we; my brother, his wife, myself and my wife visited the "Vietnam War Memorial" in Washington, DC., 1987. My First, Gut Check. As a Medic, I never had any "After Action Reporting". I Never got to know, if I ever saved anyone. So just how many of those Names, on that Wall, did I put there?

" Served my nation for a total of 30 years in and out of uniform, and caring for veterans was my creed, my duty, my honor, and my privilege to do so ! " It is not not the preacher; nor the protester who guarantees our freedom to protest and speak openly, no it is the Veteran who defends that right, and when necessary sacrifices everything to enshrine and protect that right !" Can't remember who said it, where, or when, but it really struck 🤔 😳 me !

I want to think that God surely favors Americans, especially those who fall in His arms as a result of actions of war. There is nothing more selfless than a man or a woman, both in combat uniform, who knowingly face the enemy, knowing they could die at any given moment, and yet, have the courage to accept that outcome, and welcome it with an open heart for the love of country. General MacArthur said Duty, Honor, Country. The American members of the military live and die by those words. Pro-american angels in heaven sing their special hymn to the fallen, when righteous Americans die in the fields of war. God so decrees it! ....I dare to say.

Think Americans should be compelled to serve like they were up until the early 70's. The fact that less 1% of its citizens serve id a big reason for the extreme partisanship today. It's about our country. About sacrifice for others and for a fair government, not what the rich can glean from some legislation or by ducking regulations for the common good.
