Tradition tells that the Apostle Thomas brought the Gospel to the shores of the Far East. In Kerala, in the south of India, the fruits of his apostolic zeal can still be seen today, being the state with the largest Christian population in India. We ourselves were able to stay there for 6 months, living, praying and singing with the Christians in several of their monasteries and parishes. From them we learned this hymn of the Syro-Malankar rite.
At a time when many securities are tottering and people are looking for an unshakable support to accompany and sustain them in their lives, to give them firm ground and gladden their hearts, we want to highlight the beauty of our faith. Though the powers of darkness may try to overthrow the Church and even succeed in penetrating her and creating confusion, they can never destroy her. This chant from the Syro-Malankar rite makes it clear to us why:
"The Church has said to her debaters: 'I am built upon Simon the rock. The saints are my permanent pillars. The prophets laid my foundation; the Apostles consolidated me. I am similar to an ornate bride, whose walls were built strong by the Messiah".
With this song we want to send a special greeting to India, which we carry in our hearts and hope to see again soon. But we also want to dedicate this declaration of love for the Church to all those who are searching for the true light, so that they may find the One who can say of Himself: "I am the way, and the truth and the life" (Jn 14:6).

@@Troy701 Lower caste Hindus who convert to Christianity are chased by Hindu extremists. Another incident took place IN THE SOUTH when a group of students and adults in saffron attacked a school and beat up the priest in charge. The police took action against the priest.
We are syrian christians of kerala, this is a hymn of western syriac liturgy which is from the church of antioch.... The antiochean orthodox church influenced the syrian christianity of kerala forming several churches- Jacobite, orthodox, malankara, marthoma etc We are believed to be the descendents of st thomas christians ( jews and local brahmins) who were evangelised by st thomas in AD 52...im proud that christianity came to india even before it came to europe.... Proud to be a part of syrian orthodoxy☦️✡️

Demanding that the Church stick to Latin is like those among the earliest Christians who thought all pagan converts should be circumcised…

This song originally belongs to the Syrian Orthodox Church ❤. It has been translated to Malayalam and used by Jacobites and syro malankara Christians. Great work❤

St Thomas' rite was of Syro Malabar ( East Syriac) Syro Malankara is Liturgy of St James ( West syriac) Antiochean rite

That was later. I am a SyroMalabar Catholic. All SyroMalabar and SyroMalankara Catholics have same origin- We are all Nasranis. All of our ancestors were baptised by St Thomas . The SyroMalabar rite uses the liturgy of St Addai and St Thaddeus ( the current form is from the 3rd/ 4th century) . Similar to the Chaldean Catholic rite. All of us used the east Syriac liturgy. Later some adopted the west Syriac. But we are all the children of St Thomas, our father.
