    So earlier this year I found Ol' Leon and decided to try his wicking tubs and brother, I am here to tell you IT WORKS! I have planted tomatoes, beans, peppers, and sweet potatoes and everything is thriving using this method. The maintenance using this method is practically nil compared to the traditional bucket / container method. I can not thank Mr. Leon enough for sharing this knowledge. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

    I followed this method last year with poor results until I adjusted the PH. I called the water board in Leon's area and found their ground water to be around 6.5 while my water runs 8 to 8.5. After adding a product called "PH Down" everything was fine. The PH is important.

  • @igiveupfine

    @igiveupfine

    PH down? heck, you could probably just pour in some vinegar to lower the PH. i think you could also just add some baking soda to raise the PH if yours is too low.......but does baking soda have a lot of calcium in it? so could you be putting too much calcium in the water?

    Hi Leon I saw a question on one of your videos regarding the smell one of your viewers was experiencing with their wicking tubs. I had the problem, it was because my drain hole was too high. That is not enough air space. Love the way y'all talk down there in OK. Looking at you from Melbourne Australia You have to realise that you are broadcasting to the World. no one has heard of sea minerals in Australia. Your fertiliser cocktails are terrific none of the brands you use are available here but the NKP formulas come through. I planted my tomatoes for the first time in buckets using the wicking method. As the plants got bigger the amount of water need went way up and a couple of times I let my plants run low of water. I had the ends of my first tomatoes in these pot rot like blossom end rot. I was told that it was because of letting dry out. I fill my pots a least every other day and the problem has gone away.

    1)Thank you for all the info. 2)What sort of gardening tips do you follow and believe is something you can’t see yourself changing? -Just in general gardening. I’m on journey that has brought me closer to my grandma in so many ways. She’s been gone for a long time but has given me so much. I’d like to garden the same way she did just to learn the way she did. She went blind the last 11 years of her life and she taught me to garden after she went blind. As I go along I’m remembering so many things. When spring comes we are canning or BBQ spring king salmon and she’d tell me to go put the fish guts & skeleton in her garden. I asked her why and she said “because I said so”. 🥰. I just did what I was told after that. Thanks in advance!

    Thanks Leon! I have followed your teachings and it helped feed my family during the lockdown last year. It's been a tough time for us but you and your helping hand have seen us through so far. The virus took my father, and without him I'm the last of our line to grow a plant. Our family sprung from Eastern Kentucky farming, and I spent every summer in Southern Ohio on my Grandfather's farm putting up hay and hoeing Tobacco in the heat. Unless you've done that kind of work folks just don't know just how hard times can get. I do know. I believe you know thatalso, and it's a weight on your heart to help folks. You have helped me and I hope you understand how much that means.

    Good one as always Leon. If anybody deserves their brain imprinted to silicon its Leon. MasterBlend sells the 4/18/38, its their tomato blend. Best price I have seen of late for that fertilizer is Morgan County Seeds if you are in reasonably close to MO. They also sell the Calicum Nitrate and Epsom Salts too. No financial interest, just passing on what I found was the best deal if you have to do mail order.

    wait, i'm confused when he talks about the 5 gallon bucket at the end of the video. to plant cucumbers in this 55 gallon bucket, you need to : 1. add water until it almost gets to the top 2. add in 240g, 60g, and 60g of the fertilizer things 3. put the starter cucumber plant in one side with rocks and not dirt right? what does the 5 gallon bucket have anything to do with that? i thought in an earlier video he said he fills up a 55 gallon bucket once per growing season for 1 cucumber plant.
