Luigi F. Minerva and Francisco M. Montero describe a joint industry project to use advanced engineering and scientific principle to bring hydrofoil design to a modern, higher level. This paper was the 2019 $2,500 Mandles Prize for Hydrofoil Excellence. I've been watching people practice with hydrofoils for a while and reading about them and I don't understand why they have never been used, to compensate for the braking of displacement boats, not to make them fly, just to make their displacement faster and light. Can someone tell me why? Thank you .
