After watching paint gun set up videos for 3 hours, you appear to be the only guy on YT that can actually explain how a gun works and why. As an engineer I’m all hung up on facts and details. This video was VERY informative. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!

Yea! He finally explains the details I needed also
I have watched, no joke, probably 10+ hours of videos on guys showing how to paint with HVLP and this was THE most useful video about gun setup by far. I think the biggest thing is that you showed what happens when the settings are too far out, which is extremely easy to do when you're new. Most guys just show "always set the gun up like this" which is hardly useful for DIYers who don't have access to a paint booth or live in more extreme climates. Thank you!!!
Most helpful HVLP sprayer video I’ve seen. Very helpful w/ just the right amount of detail. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
Instructional video's don't get any better than this one. Covered all the important areas without any wasting any time and the demonstrations were top-notch.
Finally, a real “how to video “ with a real explanation and not a “watch me paint and increase my view time”. 💪🏼💪🏼
Thank you from the UK. I am a first time user of Spray guns and as a lady DIYer, I can honestly say that this was the most useful video online. Feeling way more confident about doing my various paint projects now.

Can i ask what gun and compressor you purchased?
Thank you for making this explanatory video. In 8 minutes you have given me everything I need to know to feel confident about using my new HPLV set up. Possible the best 8 minutes I have ever spent on KZread.
Finally a video that punches straight to the point! All the facts laid out and the "why" to each usage. Appreciate such concise video, thanks for this!
NOOB here. Buddy of mine just shipped me all his equipment. (7 different guns, compressor, box full of paints, and a stand.) Painted canvas, draw with paint markers, but never used airbrush. Thanks for the video.
This might be the best HVLP tutorial in existence. Great work!
Probably the best video on how to use an HVLP spray gun. I was attempting to spray lacquer for my cabinets and was getting frustrating. This video might be old but still very helpful.
I wish everyone could teach as well as you as its so frustrating and takes so long to find useful and well constructed tutorials.
Yours is the BEST explanatory video on the concepts of how spray painting works. The BEST explanation.
IDK if you'll ever read this comment, but THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video. 🙏🏻 I'm new to painting with a gun like this, and was having trouble with dry paint ending up all textured and pebble-y. I watched dozens of YT vids, but YOUR video SAVED my project! A 1955 GMC pickup truck I am restomodding. Especially the part beginning at 2:11. Thank you for explaining this so amazingly well! I applied an AMAZINGLY smooth, glossy coat of single-stage black urethane on my pickup's roof last night. And honestly, that's been the toughest part to paint with primer to date. This morning, it looks like black glass. Just amazing! Thank you again so very much! 💙💙💙

I want to add my compliments for a very well done video, to all the rest you have received so far. I won't repeat all the reasons everyone has found your video helpful, but they all apply. When I find a truly useful video on here ( and not all of them are certainly ), I think it is good to tell the person. Thank you for taking the time to make this !
I've looked at literally hundreds of videos on spraying, this is by far the most informative, thankyou! And what a great guy

The first spray gun video I've seen that explained and demonstrated the effects of input pressure. Well done!
Love this video. My work recently installed a paint booth and I’ll be running this type of gun. Great tips and how it all ties together.
Finally a video that makes sense of the instructions included with the gun. Thanks for the demo and explanations of each component.

Very happy with the way this guy explains things. Building up my confidence to finally start working with my spray gun. Thank you.
I’ve watched at least 20 hvlp KZread setup videos… in my humble opinion, this is the best! Well done!
Bought the kolbolt version many years ago to paint my one tractor. Its been in a box and now i need to repaint my trailer and couldnt remember what knob did what. Thanks for the quick clear simple explanations of it all.
Brilliant, just started using spray gun for a few small touch up jobs and parts, my dad had small devilbiss one from years back but need one now to paint full CRX panels so this is massive help, wondered what all the controls do, now i know👍 had no idea you could adjust fan width, worth getting half decent gun, time to check your other videos
Good job describing how the guns work and also demonstrating the set up. You are a good teacher.
Thanks for sharing! I’m a DIYer, just got me one of this little ones, I feel more comfortable using it, taking it apart and cleaning it!!
Pure Gold... Best HVLP beginner set-up guide on KZread. Thank you...
I really appreciate this, I have been just fine tuning with use, but having the dials explained and shown is very helpful.
+1 to all other comments below. This was the MOST informative video on how to setup your gun for DIY like me. Thanks!
Hi Tom, Your video came just in time for me. Getting ready to paint my antique tractor and have never used a spray gun. Thanks, John
Very good instructional for these hvlp setups, thank you for sharing. Answered all the questions I had
Thank you for very clear and to the point explanations. This is the best video I've seen on spraying basics concepts so far.
HANDS DOWN, THE BEST VISUAL LEARNING Tutorial/Walkthrough on youtube, EVER!!!
I purchased this same kit from HF about one year ago, and finally put it to use a few weeks ago. I used the smaller detail gun to apply several coats of shellac to a few kitchen cabinet doors that I built...gun worked very well and gave an excellent finish. I'm just now using the larger gun to paint a master closet cabinet that I built...I switched to the 1.8 nozzle for two coats of latex primer (sanded between coats), and plan to spray the paint soon. For the primer and paint, I thinned using about 3 ozs of water per quart of paint. I know HF gets a bad rap, but these guns work surprisingly well...no clogs, no spitting.

Totally! I originally bought mine because I had just spent $50 on a seals kit for a high end gun, I figured I would give HF a shot thinking even if I had to toss the gun after a month it would be worth it. Some of them were in heavy daily use for over a year!

@@imagineform Just finished spraying two coats of thinned Sherwin Williams Pro Classic enamel...big gun worked like a charm with no drips or clogs, although I had to wait on occasion for my compressor to get back to pressure...the big gun just needs too much air (more than my compressor can handle). I did pick up the HF purple gun yesterday for $9 on sale, but it only comes with a 1.4 tip. I took a #50 drill bit and drilled the tip to a 1.8 tip size...I'll see how that works. The purple gun specs match that of my compressor more closely.
my coworker said i need to leave you a thumbs up, subscribe and leave a comment letting you know this is the most useful video we have ever seen. Thanks
Thank you for the time and putting this out here - VERY helpful
Thank you so much! I just got my first paint gun and just didn't understand clearly how to use it. I've watched videos and it just wasn't clicking. I watched your video and it all clicked, made perfect sense! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm subscribing to your channel. I love how you break it all down. Made it so much easier to understand the tool.
Fantastic... thanks for the video.. great explanation of what each adjustment is actually doing..
i bought a California Air Sprayer and it came with bad instructions. Your video hit it right on the head when it comes to training! It's great for a beginner sprayer. Thanks a bunch for this video!
Omg thank you for this video. I work at HF and I been wanting to buy this little gun for a project I’m working on. This video is exactly what I’ve been looking for !
I watched like eight videos on it how to use one of these paint guns and I cannot lie yours is the best of all of them! Thank you for not wasting so much time!
Thank you. Great explanatory video. I’ve got 3 new guns I got from tcp global in a kit and I’m going to spray some old steel truck rims. I feel like I have a good chance of doing a good job now.
Just got a HVLP spray gun today... watched this video. I feel more confident than ever!
Excellent, excellent video. Covered all the basics without wasting any time.
Love the diagramming on the brown paper!
Nice video. I have that exact gun. Gets the job done for what I'm painting (guitars, not cars). I've used the gun quite a bit before but just recently switched to automotive lacquers and a little more tuning and adjustment is going to help. The water based paints I have used in the past are a little more forgiving.
Most useful video . Most of the other ones I watched showed the box then show it setup and spray it . They don't go over any of the controls or adjustments which is what i was looking for.
I've watched 20 videos... this solved every issue I was having. Thank you for the detail.
You're really an adorable instructor with the most informative video for spraying with a hvlp gun!! Really great! Now I can tackle my garage! Thanks!!
This is the best video on KZread about how this works. You are an awesome instructor! Thank you!
Awesome instruction and demo. I feel more confident in buying one now. Thanks.
Excellent video! Great detailed information. Thank you!
Excellent demonstration, Thanks!
Good job, not too wordy, stayed on topic, provided concise pertinent details that match the video description. Well done and thanks!
Great information tom. I'm an industrial sprayer I spray window frames for all super markets, Mc Donald's, wickes, KFC. also ceilings, cladding on industrial units. We use hvlp turbines on window frames and while getting a brilliant finish they ain't as quick as gracos air assisted, airless pro finish
Thank you sir, this is my first to use an spray and having trouble with job, I found your video and I will follow your instruction, so I do hope that I can fix my job
Really well explained and demonstrated. I am going save this video for keeps. The man is a natural teacher. I love it !
Excellent starter video. Just what I needed! Thank you Tom.
super good video! Thanks for taking the time to explain so well what is going on...
I like the both extreme cases you use, to show the right adjustments. these calibrates the understanding. Nice tutorial !!! keep up man.
I do woodworking and have been debating on one of these since I have a shelving project coming up. This is very helpful on how to clean/use the gun.
Tom thank you for creating it. very nice walk through. helped me a lot. appreciate your time and effort!
Super awesome vid buddy thanks!!
Doing this for the second time and couldn't remember what I was doing. Truly excellent tutorial. Thanks again.
Thank you. This was a super informative video. You have given me the courage to start using one to redo kitchen cabinets.
Excellent video Tom! This is the kind of detailed explanation I newbie needs. Well done
Thanks for the crash course. This will help me improve on my painting. Great video.
So far the most informative video I found. And clearly explained. I don't want to screw up. When time and money are available, need to get the 57 D100 back on the road. Low buck build in the early 80's. First truck I owned, and was a family build. Only thing farmed out was the Fury front clip welded on for IFS. I've only sprayed primer, dad always sprayed the paint. He recently passed away, so I want to go through my neglected truck. Hopefully a paint supply shop can mix the colour. Charcoal grey with extra metallic. It pretty much looks black. A little over a year till the next Red Deer Mopar meet.
Very detailed and easy to understand, nice work on this tutorial video!
excellent video, this gun was making me nuts, thank you so much
Super good instruction..my first look at painting with a spray gun...thank you.

Nicely done. Thanks for the info. As a side note April 2019 - Covid-19 times. The Fire Department I work for is utilizing this same spray gun to dispense a germicide for disinfecting our ambulances. Inexpensive an works great.
