How to wire and install an ignition control HVAC
Intermittent Pilot Ignition Control Module Sequence Of Operation
HVAC Ignition Control Troubleshooting
=================================================
Sequence of Operation (Utec 1003-600a Series)
1. Call for Heat: The thermostat contacts close,
powering Terminal 2 on the G600.
2. Pilot Flame Checking: If the G600 detects the
presence of pilot flame (from the flame sensor)
when there should not be (i.e., before the call for
heat), the G600 will not operate.
3. Vent Damper Actuation: On models electrically
interlinked with a vent damper, the G600 powers
the vent damper motor. Once the vent damper
reaches its open position, the motor stops, and the
G600 is allowed to begin the prepurge (prepurge
models only) or trial for ignition.
4. Prepurge: The appliance prepurge fan or relay is
energized through the thermostat contacts. The
control delays for the 4-second prepurge before
simultaneously opening the pilot valve and
supplying a continual spark at the pilot burner
(models with prepurge only).
5. Trial for Ignition: During the trial for ignition, the
G600 energizes Terminal 1 and the spark
transformer, which opens the pilot valve and
activates the spark in an attempt to light the pilot
burner. If the G600 detects the presence of the
pilot flame within the trial-for-ignition time, it
proceeds to the run state. If the G600 does not
detect the presence of the pilot flame within the
trial-for-ignition time, it de-energizes all outputs
(locks out) and remains in this condition until the
thermostat is recycled. The G600AX and G600AY
have infinite trials for ignition and spark
indefinitely.
6. Run: If pilot flame is detected within the trial for
ignition, Terminal 3 is energized and the spark
transformer is de-energized, which opens the main
valve and shuts off the spark. The pilot valve and
main valve are kept open throughout the run state.
The control remains in the run condition until the
call for heat ends or until a flameout occurs.
7. Flameout: If, during the run state, the control
detects the loss of pilot flame, it de-energizes the
main valve within 0.8 second (flame failure
response time). The pilot valve is kept open, the
spark is re-established, and another trial for
ignition begins.

Honeywell S8610U Universal Intermittent Pilot Module
Field service replacement for most Honeywell, Robertshaw, Johnson, and UTEC (HSC) Intermittent Pilot Ignition Modules. Provides electronic control of most intermittent pilot ignition systems used on gas-fired furnaces, boilers, and other heating appliances.
• Provides ignition sequence, flame monitoring and safety shutoff for intermittent pilot central furnaces and heating appliances.
• Provides 100 percent pilot gas shutoff if pilot fails to light; after 6- minute delay, trial for ignition is repeated. Ignition trial/delay sequence is repeated until the appliance lights or call for heat is removed.
• For use with Natural or LP gas.
• For use in single rod or dual rod/remote sense applications. Includes relay contacts for use with any intermittent pilot gas control string with maximum 1.0A pilot or 2.0A main valve rating; Honeywell VR8204, VR8304 or VR8345M combination gas control recommended.
• Functional equivalent of S86, S8600, S8610 and S90 modules.
• Includes spark cable adapters to allow field replacement of both Honeywell and competitive controls without replacing existing spark cable.

Great viddeo, thank you. On the Honeywell control you remove the black jumper to use with 2 rod systems. Keep it in place for single rod.

OUTSTANDING very informative. What a main compoent on my Weil Mclain Gas Boiler that will go bad . for my home
The Honeywell S8610U does also have a separate flame sensor terminal. It is the spade terminal below the sparker. It has a little black wire coming from the controller and pre-wired to the terminal already. You remove it for a separate flame sensor and spark rod, or you can use the spark/ flame sense terminal as you described. It depends on the set up you have.

Thank you! I've been searching for an answer for what to do if you have separate lines for spark and sense and you answered it. You're awesome!!

Just wired one in today, was kind of confused while I was there, had no trouble with the diagnostic. But swapping a 2902 with one of the Honeywell controls had me a little stumped. Good call on that because I said the same thing.
Thanks extremely helpful

Flame sense signal (uA) comes on sense wire and not on ground terminal as said in the video. Sense current flows only if the ground wire is properly connected to chassis.

Thanks very Much I have the same model # ignition control on an York 300k gas rooftop unit only difference is the labels of terminals .mine shows MV - mv/pv - R1 rollout - TH - gnd buner - 24v gnd - sense - spark so ian assuming TH is my 24 v call Thanks again now i can go back fin trouble shooting no heat call
Thanks for sharing your experience… if we want to change the module we have to put the same module number or there is a universal module work with all? Thanks in advance
Thank you for another great video…..So for flame sensor you want to try And achieve 3 µA corrrect??? The next step is A signal hast to go back to bored via the intermittent pilots burner ground In order to open the main valve???Is that same signal in Micro amps???? Many Thxs
How/when do you check the voltage across MV/PV and PV for 24V? During spark? At any time? What if you have no 24V (instead 4.0V) across here? My system is sparking but does not light pilot. I forced sense with a lighter and got MV to light briefly.
hello there, for the GND burner and 24V wire…where should i connect them from module into…thanks man
Question, why wouldn't the ignitor be clicking?
I have an early-90s Carrier 58GSC furnace that does not spark or flow pilot gas when the thermostat calls for heat. There is 28V going to the Ignition module. Could the problem be the Ignition module, igniter, electrode, electrode wire, gas valve. I'm thinking to start at the ignition module, but I'm not sure how to isolate and troubleshoot that. Would pilot gas flow if there is no spark? Please advise.
What is terminal th-w on other control?
Is there a way to jumper the utec control to see if module is bad
Hi JMT Can you do a AAON’s initial module ? Please thank you

Why does my boiler stop working when I plug in wire GND (burner)? But it works without plugging in this wire for long time.

My control only lights burner if I disconnect my 24vgnd. Then the burner light then shuts off after a sec
