Thanks for the video! My husband bought a fuel pump to replace ours and he had already thrown away the old one. The new one came in today while he was at work, and I wanted to get it running and get the grass mowed before he got home. It seemed pretty self explanatory to put the new one on, but I guess he had also taken out the vacuum line and I didn't know what was supposed to go there. After a quick KZread search, I came across this, and I ended up cutting some random fuel line like you did. Worked great! Very informative video

The hose replaced in this video is not a breather or vent hose. It is an impulse line which delivers alternating pressure and vacuum from the crankcase to the fuel pump’s diaphragm, which in turn provides alternating pressure and suction via check valves to transfer fuel from the tank to the carb. Any flaw in the line or its seal on either end will allow atmospheric pressure to enter, defeating the ability of the fuel pump to function.

Great video on determining exactly what the fuel delivery problem was by process of elimination. A really simple way to confirm it’s fuel-related is to remove the air filter, spray a volatile into the intake and crank the engine. If it starts right up then it’s obvious fuel delivery is the issue.

That small rubber tube that you just replaced was damaged in the same place on my mower. I replaced it with a new one and within minutes the tube was sliced again, in the same place. I also saw multiple videos where people showed the same issue on their mowers. That is a defect; because the edge of the hole that tube goes into is too sharp for that thin tube. There needs to be some sort of rounded edge on the metal. That was not the reason my mower was not starting though. At least, not the only reason. Thank you for the video.

Random related question, wondering if it's normal for a little gas moisture to accumulate around the top of the gas tank near the cap and if that's attributable to the venting of the cap? And no, the tank isn't overfilled and there was no spillage. The moisture typically accumulates after a mow. Aware the cap does vent evaporated fuel but unsure if it's normal to see any accumulation on the outside of the tank. Referring to a Briggs & Stratton engine on Husqvarna YTH22V46.

Alright so the Husqvarvna YTH24k48 model with a “ Kohler 24hp engine, “KEIHIN” brand carburetor” is not a cheap part lets just get that out of the way. “24-757-45-s” Follow every step this gentleman has told you to follow. Pay very close attention to your “carburetor solenoid” its located on the front of the engine underneath the filter cover, 2 10mm bolts hold that small piece on then it’s very accessible. If you do not hear that solenoid “click” automatically thats your problem. But don’t take it off just yet, check your fuel pump as he did. If your getting gas out of that fuel pump you know the rest of everything is completely fine and to be honest it’s safe to not go further with the lines just put the line back on the fuel pump and carry on to the solenoid. Un clip the red wire keep that zip tie on, and when you take it off be ready for a little gas to fall out. Not much but enough where you want to catch it. Now, I may be very lucky but I removed it, played with it by pushing the pin up and down put it back on and then it turned right back on and we haven’t had any problems with it at all. It might be a temporary fix and the solenoid might be bad or might just be stuck, like I said it’s not a cheap part, I would recommend taking that solenoid off push the pin down its like a spring, and then put it back on, if it turns on again then don’t mess with it if it doesn’t then for sure your solenoid is Burnt out and you need to replace it ASAP part number is “ kohler 24-757-45-s”

If you don't hear the click from the carburetor, check the wire that attaches at the bottom of the carb. That is the anti-backfire solenoid. It allows gas into the carb. If that is not opening, the carb is not getting gasoline. It may be stuck. Remove the wire and the solenoid from the carb. Turn the key and watch the solenoid.

I just bought mine and it has the vtwin motor. Had carb worked on but it still had trouble starting with out spray. I ran a couple of tanks of 93 thru it now it starts fine but backfires alot after done mowing and turn off blades.

I have never heard of anything like that happening. A curiousity!
I can't get a fuel pump shipped to me via Amazon., I am going to try this to see if it helps solve my issue

I noticed you didn't put clamps back on the vacuum line. Are they needed? Do you have a video of lubing the choke and throttle cables? I have that problem right now.

There were no clamps on the vacuum line. The lower part of the vacuum line gets inserted into the valve cover, no clamp necessary. I do not have a video of lubing the cables. However, I use "3-in-one" oil to lube cables. It's a slow process. I hold the cable upright and slowly drip the oil into the cable housing. Thanks for watching.

If you don't hear the click from the carburetor, check the wire that attaches at the bottom of the carb. That is the anti-backfire solenoid. It allows gas into the carb. I understand. Some of these have been in my shop over and over. Others, not so much. And yes, the chainsaws are some of my favorites. Thanks for watching.

@@RealManSkills thanks for making these videos. The problem I’m having now is with the same mower you are working on in the video. It only starts by using starter fluid. I’ve not had time to go through the steps. (But the mower is 2 years old)My 17 month old keeps me going in other directions. Again I say thank you.
Mine won't turn over at all there's lots of power

Do you mean that it tries to turn over but can't? If so you may need to adjust the valves. Routine maintenance. Many videos out there. I have made that one yet.
Warning! Do NOT use an electric/battery powered tool near gasoline! Could result in a fire or explosion! IF his/your tool uses brushes to power the motor, he/you has sparks close to enough gasoline to end your life!
My John Deere is acting the same way.
Mine will run without the fuel pump it gravity feeds, but runs terrible...lol Thanks

That’s the vacuum and how the carb gets it gas . Just put a piece of fuel line in it .

@@ynot3778If you're a mechanic, why are you watching this video in the first place? How about making a video of your own to show how to fix it? Oh wait, RealManSkills already did. 😂
We believed it wouldn't fire.

Yep
*put
Could also be an intermittent issue😊
I got exactly same symtoms as you with the Briggs engine, and when I remove the hose to the carby fuel flows freely even without cranking. So what else might be wrong... any idea? The other thing I need to mention is... my problem is only in warm weather. If I start full choke on freezing cold morning... starts and runs like a beauty. Go figure.

I find that a vast majority of small engine trouble is carburetor related. Clean or replace. Thanks for watching.
