    Great video. I have the YTH22V46 - essentially they are all the same, but my gas tank sat behind the steering wheel and I had to remove it to get to the upper spring assembly. The lower spring assembly was able to remove with the deck all the way down. Thanks for the thorough explanation of removing those darn clips!

    My YTH22V46 just broke this cable. Of course, the local "authorized repair center" will only do warranty repairs on mowers which they sold. We moved in from another part of the state about two hours from the Lowe's where we bought it. Go figure! Oh well. I can replace this easily enough on my own as it is definitely not rocket science! LOL From what I can tell, there is no lubrication in the cables when they are installed at the factory. This appears to be the reason for these cables to fail. I submit that it is only a cost cutting measure and that the attitude at corporate is "We can sell more parts if they wear out!" With this in mind, I intend to pre-lubricate the cable to prevent this from happening in the future. I will probably do it to the other cables since I will already have access to them and I don't want to do this again. Years ago, we used to have this problem with motorcycle cables. When we replaced them we would first hang up the new cable and drip motorcycle chain lubricant into the upper end until gravity drew it down and out the other end. Afterward, we never had to replace that cable again. What has worked in the past certainly will work again. This has worked for me on other cable systems for decades so, I thought I would offer this as advice for your viewers and for you, too.

    Lubricating the cables is a good idea. When I do tune-ups, I usually drip "3in1 oil" into the casings. Thanks for watching!

    I did exactly that on my YTH20K42 and now it won't start because the lever isn't engaging or disengaging the safety switch and I never was close to it. I can't get the gas tank off because the engine is too big and I can't get the lever off because my fingers aren't strong enough. So what is the going rate to repair the mower?

    You would need to contact your local repair shop for a quote. I do this work on the side in my home garage. It's possible that the switch is bad. They aren't expensive. This job should take no more than 30 minutes. Thanks for watching.

    just purchased a used Husky YTH22V42. The cable on it is attached to a L shaped bracket with a slot on the bottom to adjust the length. This one was all the way tight and the handle to engage it was very hard to swing all the way over. The slot allows about 1.5 inches to allow for length adjustment. Can I adjust it a little longer to allow the handle to work easier? Is there a "proper" adjustment? Thanks for your help.

    The end of the cable at the spring end is not removable. I don't think the spring is available by itself. The whole cable assembly is about $13. Cheap enough to replace the whole unit.

    Good job, but I got to tell everyone it is a very poor design where the spring clips through that small hole in the pulley tension bracket because the spring hook either wears thin and breaks from the metal to metal contact through the hole or the spring hole in the bracket eventually will wear a groove area in the bracket out towards the edge and fail. I improve mine 100% by drilling the bracket spring hole out on a new bracket (because the old one worn out) and installed a short 1/4" diameter carriage head bolt (not an all thread) but one with a smooth shoulder end area vertically using lock nuts on both sides of the bracket, I had to re-install the spring hook end over the carriage head on an angle to get it on then slid it down around the smooth shoulder portion area where it stays in place and gets very little contact wear if any since doing this 3 years ago, I used a little grease on the bolt area too just to ensure a long life.

    When diagnosing this, I tried just tying the remaining cable to something sort of tight with the lever engaged, but it did not turn on. Do you think it needs a LOT of tension to rig this to make sure it's just the cable and not the solenoid and the cable?

  • @RealManSkills

    @RealManSkills

    Жыл бұрын

    If you have the lever engaged when you try to start the mower, it will not start because the safety switch is working. Also, the tractor won't start unless the brake is locked on or somebody is in the seat. Sometimes, I put something heavy in the seat and put the parking brake on. But it should never start if the blades are engaged.

    @@RealManSkills I should mention mine is a Poulan yet similar to yours. So mine is a bit wild, I managed to "test" my theory by pulling it really right (30 lbs of pressure) and tying it down, apparently the solenoid switch had no effect on powering the deck. Wild stuff. So I will be able to mow until the new cable gets here! Thanks for your help
