Free video Scott! Thank you so much for sharing. My parents have the exact same riding mower and it appears that it needs that cable replaced. So now thanks to your video I can order a cable and I feel confident I'll be able to install it correctly after following your video. Thank you sir and have a great day. God bless you 🙏👍🇺🇲

Lifesaver! I had removed my deck last fall to weld some stuff, and 6 months later I got it all back together except for remembering how to attach the clutch cable to the deck!

Great video. I have the YTH22V46 - essentially they are all the same, but my gas tank sat behind the steering wheel and I had to remove it to get to the upper spring assembly. The lower spring assembly was able to remove with the deck all the way down. Thanks for the thorough explanation of removing those darn clips!

Great video. Question, do you have to start replacing it at the dash or can you start on the deck and finish at the dash?

When you get your new adjuster hanger your deck will be happy and she'll appreciate you
Scott when you reinstall your deck face your cotterpins backwards cause most of the time your going forward and if you go forward and your pins are facing forward they can pop out and hit something but when you face them backwards they stay in and won't get popped out take note of that my friend
Excellent video and so clear with the video! You are top shelf! Thank you ever so much! Subscribed!

@@RealManSkills A question if I may. I removed the deck and will be replacing both spindles however. the brake pads are touching and I can't figure how to remove the tension. Can you help with that? I really appreciate any tips. Thanks either way!
@RealManSkills
Жыл бұрын
@@pilgrimpassingthrough2228 The brakes pads are disengaged when you start the blades spinning for mowing. There is a pulley in the middle of the deck that you can push toward the back of the mower/deck. When that happens, the brake pads move away from the spindle pulleys. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fXatsKeMe92vntI.html

This belt engages the blades. I doubt if it has anything to do with your problem.

Hello, I'm having the exact same issue, I've traced the cable from both ends but it doesn't seem torn or broken anywhere? I have no other idea what this could be.. do you think the cable is my problem. Thanks

Could it be broken somewhere in the casing?
Thank you! Would have been a lot harder without your video. Was able to install without taking mower deck off.

My YTH22V46 just broke this cable. Of course, the local "authorized repair center" will only do warranty repairs on mowers which they sold. We moved in from another part of the state about two hours from the Lowe's where we bought it. Go figure! Oh well. I can replace this easily enough on my own as it is definitely not rocket science! LOL From what I can tell, there is no lubrication in the cables when they are installed at the factory. This appears to be the reason for these cables to fail. I submit that it is only a cost cutting measure and that the attitude at corporate is "We can sell more parts if they wear out!" With this in mind, I intend to pre-lubricate the cable to prevent this from happening in the future. I will probably do it to the other cables since I will already have access to them and I don't want to do this again. Years ago, we used to have this problem with motorcycle cables. When we replaced them we would first hang up the new cable and drip motorcycle chain lubricant into the upper end until gravity drew it down and out the other end. Afterward, we never had to replace that cable again. What has worked in the past certainly will work again. This has worked for me on other cable systems for decades so, I thought I would offer this as advice for your viewers and for you, too.

Lubricating the cables is a good idea. When I do tune-ups, I usually drip "3in1 oil" into the casings. Thanks for watching!
Thank you. Helped a lot 👍

I did exactly that on my YTH20K42 and now it won't start because the lever isn't engaging or disengaging the safety switch and I never was close to it. I can't get the gas tank off because the engine is too big and I can't get the lever off because my fingers aren't strong enough. So what is the going rate to repair the mower?

You would need to contact your local repair shop for a quote. I do this work on the side in my home garage. It's possible that the switch is bad. They aren't expensive. This job should take no more than 30 minutes. Thanks for watching.
just purchased a used Husky YTH22V42. The cable on it is attached to a L shaped bracket with a slot on the bottom to adjust the length. This one was all the way tight and the handle to engage it was very hard to swing all the way over. The slot allows about 1.5 inches to allow for length adjustment. Can I adjust it a little longer to allow the handle to work easier? Is there a "proper" adjustment? Thanks for your help.

Can I replace just the spring at the end of the cable? Mine broke where it connects to the top of the blade housing. Will the end of the cable that locks into the spring come off or does the entire cable have to be changed? Thank you.
@RealManSkills

The end of the cable at the spring end is not removable. I don't think the spring is available by itself. The whole cable assembly is about $13. Cheap enough to replace the whole unit.

@@RealManSkills, thank you for your help. I was able to locate the complete cable assembly today at a local Husqvarna dealer. It only took about 10 minutes to replace. I didn't have to remove the deck. I was able to access the cable by lowering the deck to it lowest position. Simple repair. Thank you for your video.

Is there a part number for the cable ?
@andygreenefishing
Жыл бұрын
@@brianhoare9668, I took the model # of the lawn tractor into a local Husqvarna repair shop and they had the cable I needed in stock. I don't remember the part number but any dealer can look it up for you.
Good job, but I got to tell everyone it is a very poor design where the spring clips through that small hole in the pulley tension bracket because the spring hook either wears thin and breaks from the metal to metal contact through the hole or the spring hole in the bracket eventually will wear a groove area in the bracket out towards the edge and fail. I improve mine 100% by drilling the bracket spring hole out on a new bracket (because the old one worn out) and installed a short 1/4" diameter carriage head bolt (not an all thread) but one with a smooth shoulder end area vertically using lock nuts on both sides of the bracket, I had to re-install the spring hook end over the carriage head on an angle to get it on then slid it down around the smooth shoulder portion area where it stays in place and gets very little contact wear if any since doing this 3 years ago, I used a little grease on the bolt area too just to ensure a long life.

Is the cable suppose to lay on the deck?
@RealManSkills
11 ай бұрын
It can. However, I use cable ties to hold it up off the deck. Put a cable tie wherever needed on the frame of tractor to support the cable.
Cable is about 60 inches long when you order
Hey Scott I'm Brendon on your deck remove your non adjuster hanger and order yourself an adjuster hanger because you'll be mowing low at the highest setting 6 I don't know why Husqvarna can't put 2 adjuster hangers on their decks it's nonsense altogether
@RealManSkills

I noticed that certain Husqvarna models that I have worked on, mow too low even in the highest setting. You are the first person to ever mention, to me, to get an adjustable hanger. Most of these mowers that I work on are not mine. Friends and such. Thanks for the info.
You got a click because you listed the cable number 😊

I owned riding lawn tractors for years and then discovered 0turn if you’re going to mow lawn every week don’t buy a tractor get a 0turn mower you won’t be sorry.
It's a royal pain in the ass if you have one with the gas tank right there because it's hard to get your hand behind it.
@RealManSkills

A bit more difficult, but the fuel tank is removeable. But yes, a pain!
When diagnosing this, I tried just tying the remaining cable to something sort of tight with the lever engaged, but it did not turn on. Do you think it needs a LOT of tension to rig this to make sure it's just the cable and not the solenoid and the cable?
@RealManSkills
Жыл бұрын
If you have the lever engaged when you try to start the mower, it will not start because the safety switch is working. Also, the tractor won't start unless the brake is locked on or somebody is in the seat. Sometimes, I put something heavy in the seat and put the parking brake on. But it should never start if the blades are engaged.

@@RealManSkills I should mention mine is a Poulan yet similar to yours. So mine is a bit wild, I managed to "test" my theory by pulling it really right (30 lbs of pressure) and tying it down, apparently the solenoid switch had no effect on powering the deck. Wild stuff. So I will be able to mow until the new cable gets here! Thanks for your help
