Husqvarna 701 Supermoto Long Term Review
After having ridden so many road bikes, I think I have arrived 😁. This bike is insanity on two wheels (well...mostly one wheel tbh).
In this video, I share my experience with the bike over the year+ that I have owned it.
If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment down below and I will do my level best to assist

Man just found your channel and I’m really enjoying it. I have the smcr and my seat is made of concrete as well. My trick is to wear padded mountain bike undies, it helps a lot.

That sounds like a much cheaper option than an aftermarket seat. I will invest in some 🙂. Cheers 🙏🏾
I've owned the bike for about a year now. I was looking for reviews on wheels and ran into this video and decided to stay and watch. I did a lot of research before I decided to purchase the 701 SM. I was looking to get off the R6 and get something more low end fun, just like you said. I enjoy riding this bike way more than I did my R6. Sure high speed is nice, but being about to jump on a sidewalk, hit a small jump or do a wheelie is way more fun. If you've got riding experience and are considering this bike, do it! I have absolutely no regrets with this bike. It's too bad I have a screw in my tire, or else I'd get up and go ride mine. Cheers!

Yeah, my first bike was a ZX6R, and you're right, going quick gets old over time. I'm sure the same applies to wheelies 😅 but I'm not quite there yet. Still having fun with the bike hehe. It's just unbelievable how multifaceted supermotos are. When I first got one, the instant thought I had was, "why didn't I do this sooner?" Anyway, sort your tyre out and smile again, Hector! It's always good to bump into other 701/690 riders. Happy riding

Thanks a million for stopping by. The DRZ was my first supermoto, and even though I felt like it needed a bit more punch, I enjoyed it more than my previous ZX6R. I really like your SM. I have a 2017 KTM 690 enduro r. I added it to the garage so I could get back into trail riding but find that I use it to commute to work and quick trips to the shops a lot more than off-road. I wonder how much different it is between riding the SM and the Enduro?

Was considering a 701 or KTM690 prior to getting the Ducati 950 Hyper. A good friend had the 690 but sold it to get his Hyper 950. The only real advantage to the hyper is its higher top end. Both have excellent brakes, the 701/ 690 are a lot more useable for playing

Hey man. I have the 2021 701 SM and did that the front wheel only wants to live with the bike being in the second green setting and long press of the TC button until on constantly. Do you find the same or am I missing a trick with the settings?? Thanks keep uo the videos 🤘
@afrobykr
Жыл бұрын
When I first got it, it was a bit of a challenge lifting the front. It comes pretty choked up from the factory. My recommendations if you are looking to do dank nooners easily are: 1. Always turn the TC off 2. Change your gearin/sprockets to -1 at the front and (at least) +2 for the back 3. Not necessary but it'll wake up a few more ponies. Any aftermarket solution for the airbox. There's many to chose from but that gives you the opportunity to do some research. I have a video covering my mods which addresses this specific predicament
Great info! I'm really looking to get one of these as supermoto is just what I prefer to ride. Rode an R1 and didn't have the feeling like I wanted one. I have a WR250 and there's a LOT to be desired in terms of power. I had an FZ-07 and it was awesome. Best sound and feel. Now if only someone would make a GOOD sounding twin cylinder supermoto. The singles just don't sound appealing.

Hey man great review ! How about the fuel consumption ? / Autonomy ? I heard that with that little 13 L tank that you are always at the pump ⛽ is it true? Anyway just discovered your channel keep it up ! ✌️🔥🔥
@afrobykr
Жыл бұрын
I would say that's 100% true. On my previously owned WR450, I was refuelling every 100km (approx 60 miles) coz the tank was even smaller. Stock on the 701, I was doing north of 200km before needing to top up. With regards to miles per recycled dinosaur, a KTM 390 I just sold did 4ltrs per 100km while on the 701 I get an average of 4.66ltrs per 100km (with moderate mods). This comprises mixed riding (work, fun etc). Hope that answers your question 🙂
Glad I found you. Enjoyed your review. I own a 2023 701 enduro.

I absolutely love mine and I've never had issues starting it luckily 😅. There are a few 'mandatory ' mods for the newer models (2020+). Nothing to break the bank. I really love this bike! Why do you say it’s not suitable for a beginner? Not even with a power limiter?
As you say you can get a more comfortable seat for his bike. Have you ever tried one?
I ride a 2021 EURO5 and after about 6 months the stock seat didn't bother me at all even on longer rides... Anyway, a comfort seat is available from Husqvarna for cheap. Excellent bike for everything, even for track riding. It's expensive, but you get what you pay for.
@afrobykr
Жыл бұрын
Same here 😅. I've been riding with the stock seat from the time I bought the bike. Sitting on anything else feels like I'm in a Rolls Royce though
Sick review I want one of these bikes! Contemplating getting one. Only question I have that I haven’t had many answers on is how is it on highways? Is it uncomfortable going for an hour or two on a highway or being so tall do you just eat wind the whole time etc. Any input would be appreciated!
@afrobykr
Жыл бұрын
Good question. Well, in all honesty, it's not the best tool for that job. BUT I go on long rides with very few complaints. The first one being the seat. I feel like I have built tolerance for how hard it is, but on long trips, I begins to ping. So, if you wanna use if for long trips, upholstery/an aftermarket seat is a must. With regards to the wind, it's not that bad if you are doing legal speeds (including hwy). However, if you are a ln aspiring street Rossi eager to push 120kmph plus for prolonged periods, maybe a crotch rocket would be a better fit. I do 100kmph every day with not much discomfort. Hope that helps

You know what they say, 'we all want the thing we don't have ' hehe. Honestly, I'm still having a blast on this bike with very little to complain about. I'm in no position to compare and contrast it with the Fat Bob as I have never ridden one. I have, however, had a DRZ400. It was good, reliable, and easy to work on. However, the Husky takes the money home in almost every category, imho.

Hey mate, if you're comfortable on the 2T and have mastered all the basics, I'd say go for it. If you're transferring from exclusively dirt to road riding, I'd recommend taking it easy initially until you're fully acquainted with road mannerisms. Do you have a dealership local to you where you can test ride the bike?

How does it compare to your 450 what made you change? I was thinking about buying a wr450 over one of these so I'm interested to hear your opinion
@afrobykr
Ай бұрын
Honestly, there's not that much of a difference between them for normal riding. I was absolutely in love with my WR450F but unfortunately it got stolen. The WR is quite a bit lighter making it more flickable, more forgiving off-road and potentially more fun on tight turning roads. I had an FI model (2014). The thing could wheelie like there's no tomorrow. The 701 feels slightly more like a road bike with a Supermoto riding position. To me it doesn't feel as raw as a converted WR. The components used also give a more "premium" impression. Mine has been rock solid when it comes to maintenance and the service intervals are longer than the WR. It also has a much bigger fuel tank, so less stopping when having fun. It all depends on your application and the depth of your pocket. You will definitely not be underwhelmed by the WR but knowing human nature, there will be a time when your mind will be wondering what a bigger sumo would feel like.
4:57 can i ask where you got that front headlight cover thingy? looks gorgeous.
@afrobykr
4 ай бұрын
I bought that whole headlight from eBay. I had to install a separate switch for the LED strip to work separately and I also had to fiddle with the cables coz they weren't "plug and play as advertised. SMF may have a higher quality and road-legal option. I have since replaced mine.

@afrobykr

Wow 1,200 euros a year!!!? That sounds painful. My Husky has been good to me with very few issues to report. For that reason, I can't comment on part availability coz I haven't needed them even though the bike has done almost 30,000km now. I haven't had any issues buying aftermarket mods online and from dealerships, though. So, if you have a dealer nearby or a decent post service, you'll be fine. I can't speak for every 701 owner either, but my experience has been pleasant so far
I love my 701 and only thing I don’t like about it is when I’m in traffic and going 20-25 kmh if your in first it’s over revving and if you switch to second it boggs out for not going fast enough. You’ll basically get this with all bikes but for some reason it’s that speed 20-25 that’s annoying.
@krispewkrem3
Жыл бұрын
maybe get a tune or get a bigger rear sprocket. My WR250 kinda did the same. I added a 48t rear sprocket instead of a 43 stock. Now I run outta first gear too quick. So i can start in 2nd, or cruise through slow traffic in 2nd. FWIW, I can idle in 6th gear going like 25mph and it just holds steady.

Supermotos are the most tempting bikes for misbehaviour, and many have lost their licences. So, you would have to make 1 of 3 decisions: 1. Choose not to buy one. 2. Choose wisely where/when to misbehave. 3. Choose to believe you have self-control and prove yourself wrong within a few days. An electric Supermoto sounds like fun. What make/model/platform is it based on?

After 4 years riding my duke 125, travel and commuting, can i change for this super moto? Or its better get something around 400cc?
@afrobykr
Жыл бұрын
Hi Rafael, it's really dependent on the individual. I know riders who started on 600cc bike 😅. The 2020+ Husky is slightly more forgiving with the rider aids on (ABS & TC). The traction control is pretty handy in dangerous situations (rain, gravel and turning on dodgy roads). A DRZ400 would be about half the power with similar weight. So the power to weight ratio makes it a bit more subtle (not forgetting it's much cheaper). You could try that out and if you are left begging for more, you can upgrade. However, something like a WR450 or CRF450 has a decent bite and can be a handful for inexperienced riders due to their power to weight ratio. In a nutshell, if you respect the bike especially as you get used to it, you'll be fine. Try them all out at your nearest dealership.

To add to afrobykr's comment, the DRZ is great for learning on but it's an old underpowered pig. If you have experience, step up to some 600cc+ I stepped up to a liter hypernaked and it's so so much better to ride but speed isn't everything, sumos are fun due to their hoonability and how flickable they are.

Yeah, I had the same thoughts and feelings when I bought my first motard (DRZ400SM). At the very least, a fuel gauge would be with the realm of attainment, considering it's a street bike. However, there aren't many road trail, dirt or ds bikes that have impressive dashs imho. After a bit of riding though, I got used to the "lack" of information on the dash. There is a plethora of feature packed bikes to be had at that price point. I guess their focus when making this bike and the enduro version was on other things
If seat height exceeds 83cm it is discriminatory to average people.
