Nice work Chris. You and the saws make cutting in a pile like that look almost effortless. Good balance, a properly sharpened chain and a good running/powerful saw seem to be the keys to cutting with the front 1/3 of the bar. Avoiding or being ready for kickback and knowing when it might happen comes from years of experience. Cutting on cement is a whole nother learning experience for most people. GNI

Great video. Great talk. I agree with all of the talk. When we order wood. We ask for 10” size. So it always has some 11” and a few 12” logs in it. I got into 21” white birch the other day cutting that up. To heavy. Had to quarter them for me to handle. I’m still cutting up wood that hurricane Fiona blew down. The big bicep was one of them. Bunch of saw dust/ noddles from the quartering the big rounds. So back at it today. Mostly maple now and smaller than 21” stuff. And mostly at ground level. The big birch was about 50’ tall. And a lot was of the 20’. Nice that it’s done. Have a great day.

Very easy to put the tip into the tank and squeeze until full, then snap the cap back on, I get about three refills per qt. The thing I really like is that I have a small chainsaw tool tote and I can put one in, along with my files and all my other misc. chainsaw stuff and carry it with me. @waynetharp
Жыл бұрын
Morning Jean...Walnut is something my local tree services cut a lot of because they are such a messy tree, and folks want them out of their yards. It makes good firewood, but buyers tend to turn their noses up and pick something else I have noticed. So it gets thrown in with mixed hardwoods here. I see comments about Walnut not being safe to burn inside because of some chemical it releases while burning. I have no clue if it is true or just another firewood myth like pine causing chimney fires. I have sure burnt enough of it and have not died yet!😅

@@InTheWoodyard Couple years ago we got a big walnut log from the local tree service. My father mentioned it to his group at the diner some of whom are amateur woodworkers. They came running over for it and turned the rounds into giant walnut bowls. It was kinda comical my father told the guys it was 24 inch diameter wood. The guys showed up and were like "wow we didn't think it was that big!" We had to load the rounds with a forklift. And oh yes they are dirty. I have 4 i would like to take down.

@pyroman6000
Жыл бұрын
From the bark, and looking at the end grain. They can fool you, sometimes, but that's a pretty reliable method. Once you start splitting it, it becomes even more obvious, via the grain, color of wood, and smell. All 3 of these species have distinctive and very different grain structures. Color, too. Plus, the cherry stinks like, well, cherry! Oak smells like sour mulch and cow shit, and hickory stinks like cowshit and a bit of smoke. The latter two smell fairly similar, but look totally different.

GNI

I'm always impressed by your footwork. When you talked about 'dancing on the pile', I immediately thot of Fred and Ginger! She said she did all their routines "backwards and in high heels!" So you can be double proud of yourself!! - If you took some of the "mulch" and made a layer couple inches thick, you wouldn't have to worry so much about cuttin' the bottom logs. And/or workin' in the mud!

I’m in the market for another 70cc. It’s between the 572xp or stihl 462. The closest husqvarna dealer is hour away and they refuse to work on saws that you didn’t purchase from them. I have 3 stihl dealers within 20 minutes of me. I prefer the 572 so can use bars from my other saws but having multiple stihl dealers close to home is persuading me to the 462C.

Hello, I am here!
I worked at a dairy farm in Vermont. They had an outside boiler that took 38" wood. The boiler heated the water for the whole dairy. They gave me a 7 cord picker load on Friday. During the weekend I would cut the load to length and take it over by the boiler. I cut an amazing amount of wood at that dairy.

I have some left over 1 qt gear oil bottles that have the small tip with the snap on tapered cover, I use these for my chain oil. Very easy to put the tip into the tank and squeeze until full, then snap the cap back on, I get about three refills per qt. The thing I really like is that I have a small chainsaw tool tote and I can put one in, along with my files and all my other misc. chainsaw stuff and carry it with me. Keeps everything handy and ready to go.

Hey Chris I have started using washing machine bottles for my chainsaw bar oil. It pours out so much better and when you lower the bottle the oil drains back into the jug. I use the ERA brand and it works so much easier than the one gallon bar containers. Try it and you will be amazed how well they work. Keep up the awesome videos and keep cutting!!!

@waynetharp

Fantastic videos, not being a firewood person living in the UK, how do you tell the different woods apart when they're already cut into logs? More chainsaws more wood splitting more wood yard and more cats👍
@pyroman6000
