That's so crazy to see the different storm surge markings for the different named storms on those posts.

I remember this. It was a month after my daughter was born. We lived close to fort walton

2005 was the craziest year for hurricanes! The Atlantic was dealing one hurricane after another. It was insane!

My wife and I were in Jamaica, Montego Bay, when Dennis hit the island. It was not a fun thing to experience. The fourth and the first floors of the hotel were evacuated and had to stay with people on the third and second floors. So, for 24 hours, we were stuck with 3 other couples in our room with mattresses against the patio doors and what ever little food and water we gathered from the buffet (Royal de Cameron did not provide any support!). I was the one who informed the front desk that a hurricane was coming right at us! The staff was completely oblivious to the imminent danger! Their answer:"No problem man! We'll keep you inform as need be!". Not long after, most of the staff had disappeared! The one that stayed, finished installing hurricane shields once the hurricane had past! They were drilling in concrete with wood drill bits burning them one after another. You really know a resort when the shit hit the fan!

One remarkable thing I remember from this storm was how bad the flooding was. The water rise to 4’5 feet. Which is almost as high as my mom cuz she’s 4’12 and I’m 5’1

Classic shots, Mike!!! One of these days the Keys are going to get pummeled with a direct strike from a monster. And the scenes in the panhandle were amazing.

The palms at 0:42 were like, "What the hell did we do to deserve this!"

Where was the location you were filming from 0:29-0:57? Because I noticed what looks like a stand of Royal palms in that part that look a bit climbable for next time I go to Key West.

Normally major hurricanes don't occur before August... Dennis was a supreme July storm that swept through Cuba and then northwest Florida..

Dennis was nowhere near as Devastating as Ivan!

Yeah Me too! I was in High School when both hit. I’ve been through a lot of Hurricanes but Ivan was by far the worst Hurricane I had ever in my life went through.

@@kingdomminded87 Ivan didnt want to leave. Our lights went out at 130am and out for over a week. I've gone thru Betsy as a baby and heard all the stories. Lived here on the gulf coast all my life and yes, Ivan was known as Ivan the terrible.

@@kingdomminded87 And now here we got this storm headed thru the Caribbean. It has drifted more west over night and good Lord knows we don't need it.. Our immediate area hasnt seen a storm like a dennis or Ivan in 15 years.. lots of small tropical storms but not hurricanes. I'd say were behind.. Opal hit right over us and did some major damage.

On the Santa Rosa side of the bay, the eyewall thru a 75 year old pine tree on the house , splitting the massive main beam under it and directly under our "hunker down spot"( which remained intact). Our daughter just haaad to go potty, at that time. Having windows broke on two sides of the house, created a tornado of sorts in that bedroom. I used momma strength and could barely shut the door. The house shook hard and felt like it was going to take off, at one point and then explode at another. Hugely intense and then-done, that quick ! I was awake the entire night of Hurricane Ivan less than 10 months or so before and recall the skies looking just as light at 2am as it did at 2pm with Dennis, with all the transformers blowing up and trees falling all around us, from full canopies to big sky country, in a matter of hours. Both did severe damages in various areas. Anyway, CNN was the only radio station we could get, with the power out from Dennis and they kept reporting till almost the very end, that Katrina was headed in the exact same path as Dennis. Whatta trip that was...

I lived in navarre Florida at the time and the water came all the way up to the road by my house and like a crazy kid that I was I rode my bike in the storm Serge in the next nabbor hood over when the worst part of Dennis was comeing on shore

Beautiful Key West. I somehow get the feeling, it will be the next New Orleans, which a cat 4/5 Hurricane will probably wash away. Hope not, but it's inevitable.

When Dennis hit us in Milton Florida, it seemed like it didn't last that long, but it kept me busy for the next 2 months as a FEMA clean up monitor. We were just barely recovering from Hurricane Ivan. The damage was great but the trees were mostly gone from Ivan.

actually we do get hurricane in the uk but the ocean around us has to be around 30 celsius

No we don't. Your talking about Florida not the UK. If a hurricane came up north to the UK, it would be an ex-hurricane. The water is cold and hurricane only form in warm tropical waters then go to tropical places. UK is an tropical place.

For northeast florida, it would have been much worse if the storm was any slower. It moved too fast.

The only reason Galvrston was so devestating was cause there was no way to predict were it was going to hit or how strong it was. Back then the tech wasn't avalible. The real hurrican was Andrew wich hit FL. But yes I know there was more lives lost at Galveston then any were else. It don't really matter cause at those speeds it is a truely devistating hurricane.
