Hurricane Cover From Death Note The Musical
Ok so I was on the deathnote musical wagon since the very beginning. I was there back when the English lyrics to hurricane could only be heard from a sketchy audio clip of Jeremy Jordan performing live. Like I was a big fan. I made so much shitty fanart back in the day. So much has happened since the original musical premiered, and I gotta say It's been a wild ride. I'm so happy that people finally are starting to hear about it cause of Tik tok and the new English cast album.
I've been wanting to sing this song for years now, but haven't had a decent karaoke until like last year so I didn't get around to it till now.
So as it goes, the Korean version of the musical is my personal favorite cause I think that it sounds the nicest when it comes to songs. I've never really liked the english lyrics to some songs, this song especially. I don't think that they carry the same emotion as the korean translation.
So for this cover the lyrics I used are a mishmash of things. Some from the original english lyrics, some from the 2017 album, some from RoseDubs own version, and some I altered myself.

So.. I've already commented on this twice but screw it! I do it again! I think after rewatching this several times as... covers are hard to come by.. I've found a new appreciation for the lyric changes. "Hurricane" as a song frames Light as a force of nature, or.. as he wants to be framed as a force of nature. "Death note" frames light as a savior. as someone who has found a notebook to save the world. The two contrast each other, and While I prefer Hurricane as the idea of Light seeing himself on the basis of nature, as death, as a god. I think this combination of the two actually does the best job of illustrating Light as he is in the Anime/Manga. He doesn't just see himself as a savior he sees himself as a sacrificial pawn. He states in the anime and in death note along with this rendition of Hurricane that he is willing to sacrifice his soul to save the world from criminals. As the anime ends he reflects on this, wondering where he went wrong (different ending from the manga). Basically, I think this song best sums up that Light wishes to BE a savior, he likes his actions to a force of nature as he describes it. but every piece of 'Fate' and.. 'save the world' each one best sum up Light. I think your lyrics actually do the worst job of making Light unlikeable but instead, do the BEST job of making Light most like is Anime and manga counterparts. Which is.. an incredible feat. I think of this Light; Bailey's Light as most like our Yagami, smart, yet.. willing to sacrifice himself until he learns that he doesn't need to. in which he then moves to saying he can be a silent god. something who can help people. It perfectly captures his ego, and wit. But also his sympathetic tones, things that the original "Hurricane" doesn't do at all, and the original "Death Note" does too much. Honestly to call this Hurricane or Death Note does it a disservice. I know this is far too long for a video with 224 views, but honestly. I must commend you. It does a much better job of capturing Light, and the character than I think either original versions do.

Wow thanks! That's a great analysis of it. I agree, I always thought the contrast between the meaning of the english vs. korean songs was interesting, especially what it does for light's character.
A very interesting take on the lyrics. I like the idea of combining bits of the English version with the intention of the Japanese and Korean translations. I'll always be a big fan of this show, and it's nice to see its fan base is still around! (I also did a cover of "Hurricane" recently; feel free to check it out if you wish!)

I like how it shifts. From different light to better light. Showing progression in views. Then since he's sure his way is better then that legitimatizes the rest of his actions. Thank you for showing a good depiction of lights viewpoints over time.

WOW UNDERRATED!!!! I've been on a bit of a Death Note Musical craze for awhile it's so hard to find content for it but when I find it it's always stellar. I love the lyrical changes and how it reflects the sympathetic sides of Light and how he is willing to sacrifice his soul to rid the world of criminals I honestly love the musicals take on Light's character he has a stronger and clearer character motivation. Also your voice is beautiful!!!

Need more death note songs
This is this song "Death Note" not "Hurricane". Hurricane was translated into Death note where the entire analogy of a Hurricane was dropped in Korea and Japan. Hurricane is a little bit different.

I actually combined the translated lyrics of "Death Note" with the English lyrics of "Hurricane" for this cover. So it's not quite either song. That's why the lyrics are different.

I guess "new" is relative. I meant the 2015 one which is new in comparison to the original release.
