Biggest example of location determined pricing. < 6k for this where you are. Here in the US this would be a 11-12k bike minimum.

I had the same shifting issue until Yoda told me to… Pre-load the shifter and then make the shift between 3500-4000 rpm. I pre-load the shift on everything I ride now. Just a thought. Congrats on the bike!! And your lady friend will love the passenger accommodations!

IMO The best thing about the bike is the shaft drive as there is no chain maintenance to worry about.

Apart from the fact, that they do fall apart at around 60k kms or sooner, depending on the usage. In Europe, BMW dealers will fit a new one for you for free at every 60k, and for the 1300GS every 80k kms, but for that you will have to pay. Bit of a shame that drive shafts are now considered consumables. Having said that, as a 1250GSA owner, I still love these damn things.

Good choice for your needs, there's a reason they are so popular. I have one just like it. It has now done 114.000km and carried me 40.000km in one go across all of Europe. A few observations: -It should be able to start in gear. With the clutch fully pulled and the sidestand up, it should fire up. If not your clutch-microswitch is defective. Its not that expensive and very easy to swap. -The cruise control can be retrofitted quite easily. It's just a matter of swapping the left switchgear and coding the bike. Perhaps you could find the switches used, change them yourself (You'll need a Torx T8 screwdriver btw) and then have an enthusiast or a dealer help you code it.

That's an amazing deal. Someone else already commented that here in the US that bike would be $10k+. Looks to be in great shape though and very low miles for one of those. Should be a great option for touring especially if in mixed conditions or over less-than-ideal roads. If it makes you feel good, my '01 R1150GS is at 146k miles and starts like it's brand new every time, tough bikes.

Love that your finally doing thr trip you've always wanted. After learning to ride on one of my father-in-law's bike i bought my own in January. That April i went on my first 300 mile solo trip. My parents thought i was crazy for doing that without someone just in case something happened. I didnt think of any of that when i did the trip. It was completely out of my comfort zone but it was amazing. Ive been doing that stuff noe for about 5 years now.

Tip for a good trip. Buy a 750cc 80s Japanese bike and daily drive it for half a year, fix every problem that it gets in that time span, and try to come up with solutions where you don't buy spare parts. You are now prepared to take on every challenge that trip throws at you. Reasoning: 1. it's an old bike, if it still lives, that tells you alot about the quality. 2. you have gained most of the necessary experience in fixing and maintenance on that bike. A good choice is something like 83' Suzuki GSX 750 ES or 82' honda CB 750 four. I prefer the GSX as the engine rarely cause trouble, but if it falls on the left side, the engine is done.

The cheapest way to take a motorcycle trip is to become a big youtuber and to get invite to motorcycle launches where you can lie and giggle, like a little girl, everytime you accelerate. Also you have to mention that the current model is way better than the older model although they only changed the headlight or the dash.

The R1200GS is a great bike to do trips! The telelever suspension in the first rides feels not as sharpe as a fork suspension but with time you get used to. Give a try in a twisty road and you will see the bike is effortless to ride. The engine on the bottom makes the bike very flicable. Try one or two weeks riding only the GS and you will see the diferences to other bikes (mt-09). Top tip: One of the ways to make the gearbox softer is refuelling with shell V-Power, at least in my 1250 i have got the gearbox much more smother between gears. Maintenance: Check the bottom of suspension if they are not leaking. Most of times what goes bad is not the computer in the eletronic suspension, but the shocks starts to leak.

You are missing the most important point of all. You are planning to go with your girlfriend. The most important factor is sharing the journey. Enjoying each others company on the way. Please don’t get too hung up on the details. On skimping on gear or limiting where you go, on hotel rooms or meals, just to meet an arbitrary goal of breaking even on cost of the trip. I have done a hell of a lot of motorcycle trips alone and with others. Including partners who were pillion and partners on their own bikes. And I can offer this advice. When you go in your own, you can sleep wherever, whenever. Eat; whatever. You make choices to compromise your previous choices because you focus on getting back of the bike and seeing what is over the next hill, at that interesting spot on the map, etc. But if you go with a partner, you want to share the journey. Take it easy and just be.. and you can’t skimp on that. Or her. Trust me. Meet her need on the journey and don’t set too many limits.

Replace. Free with reasonable or affordable cost. First question I'm looking for a bike why would I pay extra for yours? I don't care if you wash it. I'm going to go get it dirty. I'm buying a used bike so I'm going to look for a good deal just like you did. I paid 10000$ ish. For a used 2018 R1200GS with a few miles on it. 70000Km. Now 85000 after my adventure. I could probably sell for a similar price I paid for it. Its an ex rental. Its been around. but its been serviced regularly. It was by far the lowest price 1200 GS anywhere near me. I kind of like it so I kept it. How much was my trip. I don't know. 1000 bucks in gas. hotels 100 ish a night depending upon how remote the highest price was Eagle Plains at over 200 for a night but it was the only place for about 500 miles. Cheapest Svens in Fairbanks 50 bucks A tent would have been slightly cheaper and Id still have the tent. I think you got a good bike. Which will sell easily when you want to. If you want. Profit? Certainly without much depreciation. I took mine off paved roads and did a couple of 1K Km on gravel roads t it was fun. It starts in gear just fine. If you pull the clutch in. and put the stand up. So get it fixed and put the price up. Yea you got to be carful about how fast you are going.
