Hunting a Sambar Stag
With a day and a half off work, and the desire to hunt sambar strong, I was more than happy to take the 13 hour round trip to Victorian public land even if it meant I only had one afternoon of hunting. I was richly rewarded for my efforts with a massive, old sambar stag, whose antlers were going backwards. It's the largest deer i've ever shot and will likely take, ever in my life.

You and your friends represent the very best of the Australian Hunters, Respectful and responsible I take my hat off to you.
As a prospective deer hunter in NSW, I admire your passion for hunting and your person as an ethical hunter who knows how to respect the animals and admire and appreciate the God gifted nature. Keep doing the good work, and stay blessed. I hope to see you somewhere out in the bush.

Awesome alex, I love how much respect you have for the animals and how excited you get.
Great passion and a well placed shot, proves marksmanship and bullet selection is the key. Great vid

I admire your commitment. Glad to see your efforts paid off.
It's hard to hunt sambar in the thick Bush. Almost got to shoot on a flick of a switch.
living the dream bro,big respect to you and to your love of our sport.an example to all hunters and outdoor people.
Thanks, it's what I hope to be able to do as well. I just made jerky, sausages and bresaola- I'm so pumped! Tight lines for the trout season and if you are near pines make sure you get some mushrooms in autumn.
Excellent video mate! I went out for my first stalk in the hills this weekend and took a nice hind (beginners luck) , but the best part of the weekend was just being out in the bush enjoying myself and the rush that every gully you drop into you may just walk into one of these magnificent creatures! Happy hunting!
Very good footage, welldone on the respect you paid to the animal. And the excitment you showed, i cant wait to get my first sambar and have the same reaction.

Hey mate awesome work! Where can I get those white game bags?
Awesome work Alex. - Oli
Beautiful hunt mate. I am finally not long off going on my first hunt (Not sure what it will be as yet, but hopefully deer) I get to bring home my Ruger American 30-06 and my Marlin .22 later this week or early next week depending on the NSW firearms registry. I will make sure I am an ethical hunter and same of those that I with.
nice mate!
Field sports brought me here
You really showed respect to the animal, for example the fact that you've putted back the tongue in his mouth made yourself a gentlemen sportsman. You preserved the dignity in death to the animal and you got my admiration for it. If you come to Canada I'll be glad to get you to hunt moose, white tails and caribou. Very nice trophy, cheers mate!
Nice goods.i like it is video
I might have not been concentrating when you said it but where did you shoot this?? Cause I have never seen one of these in nsw
Great video mate! Just wondering what the white bag was call that you were putting the meat into?
Nice deer ! What gun do you use I'm just starting to get into hunting sambar and I'm yet to purchase a gun ! Wouldn't mind knowing what size gun and model you use ? Thanks

+Cathy Nguyen Hey Cathy, rifle choice can have endless possiblities, The rifle im using is a bit small for the job a 7mm08, for a new sambar hunter i'd recommend a .270 and get a Tikka Lite, really reliable and accurate
Great vid bud, I suggested your vid for "hunting y/t on fieldsportsbritain" and it got a run hope you get some extra traffic.
Very sorry, Gave you a dislike by accident youtube loaded your post while I was looking at another. The individual shot a samba on the run when he wasn't capable of making the shot, and the animal suffered unnecessarily, that really pisses me off. Do love your posts, have learned a lot.
7mm08
Well done. If you ever need a companion for that 13 hr drive again let me know would love to tag along or even carry the camera don't need to take the gun just like yourself getting out in the bush is enough for me. Congrats.
I think I can hear your heart beating at 2:15 haha
Really ? Since when deer start living in Aussie ?

Nice one mate, got my first samba hind on Sunday and cannot wait to get a set of antlers. All meat is now in the freezer. BTW check out a blog called WHOLE LARDER LOVE.
You ought to be ashamed of yourself.
