I think the entire manga world, and not just Togashi, was impacted by the tragic passing of Kentaro Miura. Until now, it is probably the clearest example of how a great series may not see its end because of the author's death. We have several individuals in the world that may face a similar fate, and not just in the manga world (yes, George Martin, I'm looking at you), but Togashi is undoubtedly among the first ones to be concerned by this possibility. So, I am not really surprised if more authors with slowly issued series will come out with similar "solutions" to their stories.

I will say that the ending that Togashi likes the most is the ending I want. He's one of the authors whose vision I have absolute trust in and the fact that he undermines standard tropes just on a whim, doing what "feels right" is why I love his writing

I think you’d be surprised on how much authors write what they don’t prefer but what they think we the audience will prefer. I’m sure he’s done that in hxh already. I find that what authors tend to like are always unsatisfying for the reader. Kind of like how jokes that make comics laugh are too fucked up for audiences, endings authors like are too fucked up for readers lol b

@@4purs definitely but Togashi also doesn't care as much as others. He will drop arcs if he wants to do another thing, he will introduce things that may not be for everyone but he likes the idea of, etc. I respect that he's telling a story that he wants to tell. Those who like it will get on board, those who don't? Too bad 🤷‍♂️

As much as I want to see Togashi finish HxH, I can understand why he won’t let someone else draw for him. HxH is the work of his life at this point and undoubtedly a passion project, and making manga is not just about drawing the characters, is also the “camera angles” for a panel, the emotions of the characters and much more. Even if you give precise instructions it won’t be the same as doing it yourself. If anything, I wish Togashi would write the story ahead and maybe if he passes before finishing the series someone he entrusted could do it. A sort of ultimate last resort, but even then I’m not sure if it would feel right. But while he is alive I get why he’s adamant in not letting other people draw for him. Is it egotistical, maybe, probably, but it’s his work. Plus, we don’t know if he can even cooperate with someone to do this in a satisfying way (in his opinion). The style, the story board, the amount of pressure applied in each stroke, the details on the page… is there an artist who could understand Togashi so well to actually pull it off? And even if for some miracle there is such artist, it still wouldn’t be entirely his work. Having a different writer and illustrator works for various works such as Fairy Tail 100 year quest and others, but would it work HxH? Authors can be very rigorous to their work and with HxH being the (arguably) biggest and probably final work of Togashi he is bound to be extra meticulous.

There was talk of his wife, the author of Sailor Moon, finishing the story based on his vision and apparently she worked on replicating his style and did a good job so it's not unlikely.

The line “I’ve always wanted to be with the people I’ve always wanted to be with” is a reference to Ging telling Gong that he “Always wants what he doesn’t have”. Basically reflecting the sentiment to show their difference.

I can only imagine how heartbreaking it can be for an artist to be unable to finish their work due to health issues.

When Togashi and Oda have a interview way before, Togashi asked Oda if One Piece is already on Half way and Oda said yes and when Oda asked the same thing on HxH Tagashi mention it has more 4 to 5 major arc in line after Chimera ant arc. Mean Togashi have more to offer in the manga, sadly to say he just doesn't have the strength to write through it.

Your care for this story/author is really really endearing. Before the 2017/2018+ anime renaissance, hxh was one of my favorites. Your care is helping me re-find joy in this story. Thank you 🫡

It would ne so metal if he gave us all 3 endings, that way everyone could find a favorite ending snd have dacade long arguments about which ending is best or the true ending.

The biggest regret is knowing how intense climatic and just overralk huge this arc can be! He dwarfed all his other arcs for this on scale and no mater how it ends, we know we will never get the full vision 😩 he needs one editor he can trust

Honestly, I'm glad the anime ended where it did. Even if the manga never ends, for me Hunter x Hunter already has a satisfying ending. I want more, but I don't need it.

I honestly just want to know how that hisoka v chrollo rematch goes down. Kurapikas mission is also important too as well as the rest of the phantom troupes end. AS WELL as the theory about the real death of Sarasa and if Pariston was actually behind it.

I will make one small correction: for ending A, he expected it to be the 'safe option,' which would satisfy 50% of readers while only making 20% upset; the other 30% were likely to be indifferent by his estimation. Safe and inoffensive, but not the most satisfying to everyone who invested into it.

I’m honestly so fine with the way the anime ended. If we don’t get a satisfying manga ending for whatever reason, I’ll consider the anime’s ending combined with my own headcanon as the canon ending

Pretty sure that last paragraph about "They might be the children of this character or that one." Is more to keep cagey about whether or not Kurapika ends up dying vs the troupe and whether Gon finally ends up costing Killua his life. But it could just as easily reference a second generation of characters with resemblances to Hisoka or Chrollo. In my head I'm picturing an ending similar to Demon Slayer but less "direct reincarnation" and more "similar body language/fashion/hairstyles" and you just kinda grok the vibe.

As long as Gon gets his nen back and can continue being a hunter I will likley be fine with any ending.

I'm wondering why Togashi isn't doing something similar to One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100, get the story across, make some rough drafts and contact one of his mangaka friends, which I assume he has, if not I'm sure his agent could arrange something, and let them fill in the blanks and bring the story to people in less than 50 years. Obviously he should take care of his health first cause from what I know it's really not good, but if he wants to finish the story to his satisfaction and standard, which seems high, he could go this route, give someone who he trusts a rough draft of what the key moments of his story need to be, rough charecter designs and let his friends/coworkers finish all the detailed stuff which he could still supervise. The reason I think his standards are high is because he adds so much detail into his world that he doesn't have to, like that he designed all the cards on Greed Island, even the one's that weren't used, it's very unnecessary but amazing detail, also has some theories about Gon's mom, who is Ging, because there is a card for a male to get pregnant, a nanny card and a bunch of other stuff that could explain it.

The more it sat with me the more I kinda love this ending. Keeping in step with Hunter x Hunter it's such a subversion of tropes. What I really find interesting is there were only 2 other children mentioned , which to me implies that one of the main 4 characters died before procreating. Which in turn would obviously be pointing toward Kurapika being the one. But in true Togashi fashion I could see it being a complete subversion and one of those children being Kurapika's offspring, thus implying that while he survived either Leorio or Killua died too soon. Then a final subversion would be that all though Gon continued as a Hunter he did it while actually never figuring out how to use Nen again, and I think that would be next to perfect. That said I really hope he just goes with the one ending he loves and screw what any one may think.

It kind of blows my mind that Togashi doesn't have an apprentice or someone who can help carry the load. It's the ideas & story that are most important, while the art & manual/dexterity-intensive work can be offloaded elsewhere. I know controlling it all is important to him, but it may help him find enjoyment & peace of mind in the story again, rather than an axiety-inducing pressure cooker that it's become.

Great video. I think the Lake Lord really is the plant in a way.

He could write the rest as a novel, with an occasional artistic drawing to introduce characters or show changes to existing ones, then another person complete the anime based on that. This could be done long time ago.

I know it's incredibly hard but maybe he can write/dictate what happens and someone else can draw it. It obviously wouldn't be ideal but if it would help his health and also let him finish his story then it's at least worth considering I feel.

I suffered a severe spinal injury when I was 18 and ha surgery on it then had 2 kids all those events made my back pain much worse to where i was planning on tying my tubes but then it wasn't even a choice as another pregnancy could paralyze me so yeah it's horrific im 36 now and i can't run i can barely walk to be honest i was so happy about being able to take my kids trick or treating this year so i feel togashis pain

I think it would be a good idea to do what Mirua probably did with Mori, so giving his editor or in Togashi's case whoever else the rest of the story to finish if he died before the end of the series.

Show Gon’s mom ( or explain it ), have them fight Hisoka & Illumi one last time . Show Kurapikas death, & Leorios life after the dark continent, & end the series with Gon & Kill choosing their rest of their lives paths . Simply that would be great ( with a little more detail ofc lol )

Ya know, Gon kind of reminds me of Jim Hawkins from Disney’s “Treasure Planet”. Both are stories about a boy whose father left them to be a sort of adventurer. This left both protagonists wanting to follow in their fathers’ footsteps because they believed doing so was such an amazing career that it was worth leaving your family behind.

I'm not sure I would have fully appreciated this ending without you helping tie it into the themes of the broader series, so thanks for that.

I think possibly Kite trains with gon after he’s recovered and he goes into a realm of nen only people that die can access since kites a chamria** ant and had died and gon being so close to the brink of death and only came back from a wish of nen. That training could be a way for gon to use nen again or even a special form

Aside from letting us know that Gon returns to hunting at some point, becomes famous, and ends up with a kid at some point, this ending has almost no bearing on the story as it is right now. I guess we know that if this ending ended up being where the story went then the world doesn't end, but with it being 1 out of 4 current end states it's like... that could still be the way things go. It's just clear that Gon should eventually be returning to some kind of action.
