I love the 1999 version. It's more dark and realistic than the 2011 one. And the music is better.

See, that's precisely why I loved the 1999 version better. The music had an aura and the picture is darker and gives the true impression and feeling about the story.

+Omar Al-Mogharbel That's kind of debatable. The '99 adaption strayed away a little bit from the manga, which is the true impression of the show. In a lot of ways, arguably more ways, I liked the '99 adaption better, but it's still considered non-canon by the creator himself. That's totally fine with me because I appreciate both soundtracks and pictures. But yeah, I am partial to the '99 adaption for sure.

***** I think that's a matter of opinion. Really, anything considered non-canon can be considered as an *alternate universe.* So, if you like it knowing that, then that's good, I do too. If we're speaking ost, then I would agree... maybe. It's just a different series of tones. They are definitely different, but I've come to enjoy both of them with equal vigor, just not in the same way. I do wonder what the '99 equivalent would be of Gon's storyline with Pitou, all the elements and factors... what that would look like, I mean. I don't know, scary lol. But Killua and Gon's friendship just skyrockets either way. I loved the animation style, with the VA's, the music, all of it ties together beautifully in the remake. I don't have much to complain about. I'm just partial to the '99 adaption's interpretation of certain areas of the story is all. In a way too, I like Gon in the '99 adaption more than the remake, and I might like the Kurapika in the remake more than the '99 adaption--MAYBE. I'm not sure on that one, but yeah. I'll stop now lol.

***** Definitely agree on the fight between Kurapika and Uvo. Especially with the scene thereafter where Kurapika feels the toll of killing someone, having another's blood on his hands. It doesn't deter him, obviously, but it shows just how much it affects him. And I think it strengthened everyone's care for Melody, seeing her so worried and noticing that Kurapika's heartbeat was not only approaching, but that it was in the anguish that it was in. But if you like darker, than you must have loved the Chimera Ant arc, haha. In terms of difference in interpretation though, taking Gon for example, I think Gon shows a little more concern in the '99 adaption. But in the '11 remake, he's actually more realistic in a way, and much more like an enhancer; bright, but stubborn. Although, I have to say, it's like like how Killua didn't appreciate or understand Wing not telling them about nen in the first place. As children, they don't understand the value of proper aging yet. Still, I think I liked '99 Gon because he taught me more about conviction through a very child-like determination, though very childish and stupid at times. Well, in FMA's case, I'm not sure if you can go wrong with either. If I were to suggest HxH, I would first say watch the '99 dub, then read the manga, then the 2011 remake, and say that it's worth it lol. But having never watched FMA, I don't know how different it is from FMA Brotherhood. But from what I can tell from MY friends, you probably should watch the original first. And I kind of think you should watch things as they come out anyways. But I don't know, I think it might be good for you to watch Brotherhood first, based on our conversation ;D

God DAMN the hunter exam was such a fucking masterpiece in the 1999 version.

Hunter x hunter made me feel how good it is to have true friends that will be there for you no matter what.

why on earth this instrumental cover is extremely nostalgic :'( I love the the '99 adaptation, it has unexplainable appeal for me. When I started watching the 2011 version, it seemed that I couldn't feel the same way I used to feel in '99 adaptation. And this soundtrack gives me goosebumps when Gon does unextraordinary thing. While watching 2011 version, I find myself waiting this soundtrack to be played when Gon accomplishes or inspires someone. :'( tho, I am starting to "like" 2011 because of this complete sequence of story.

99 version soundtrack is full of emotion and, in my opinion, every piece of music fits perfectly with the situations that are happening in the anime. the 2011 version on the other hand seems like they just did the sountrack because they had to, but there is no passion in the music, you don't get to feel anything because it's just made to fill the spaces, but not to be a complete piece of art with the animation. anyway, I think that 2011 sountrack got a slightly better on the chimera ant arc, but I still think 99 ost is far superior.

I think that of all anime series in Japan that started in late 90s and early 2000s, Hunter x Hunter is the best in animation. The subtle darkness of the story, the aura in the music and nostalgic impression feeling about the story.

The 2011 version is AMAZING, but I feel like it lacked something that the 1999 version had.

THIS. This is the song I feel represents my memories of watching this 1999 subbed anime a year ago. I went through a period of watching it where I would try to think more about “what would Gon do?” in my day to day life. I recently watched the 2011 version which was great, but it lacked a lot of the heart and soul I feel the original had. Also nothing beats the hand-drawn, darker 90s vibe. Even more nostalgia fuel since I was born in 94 and remember that period.

i like everything in this better. i like the ost --like whenever i hear the theme, it comes back to me the scenes where they were used. the art. the tone, it was dark, helping me grasp the morbid reality of this anime rather than the brightness used in the newer version. kurapika's hair. killua's more mature and deeper voice. and the fillers were fun! brings so much character development. and then the pacing. i forgot to add, Ohayou, hxh 1999 very first opening is such an impactful and nostalgic piece.

i did this using my guitar, and i have a guitar pro tab for the piano. As I wrote in the description, it is not 100% accurate, but it's the best i could do, because i don't play the piano. I can upload a pdf file or the guitar pro file.
