Hunter's lodge SKS cleanup. Yugo 59/66

Finally got a chance to clean up my Yugoslavian 59/66 SKS that came in from Hunter's Lodge. Is it trash? Is it treasure? Was it worth it?!

8:37 that’s a forced match, IE they put the main S/N on the gastube so it’d be matching to the rifle

One tip if ya want to know.... I have a M-59 and a M--59/66 both were soaked in cosmoline n love Yugo's even better than my 1954 Tula... Don't just clean with soaking the firing pin ..Punch out the pins and pull out the firing pin and clean out thoroughly cause with a Yugo SKS it Will slam fire.... The Yugo's inspected their Milsurps every 5-7 years and kept dunkin them in cosmoline... I had to buy a Murry's SKS spring load Firing Pin for them.... Yugo's are far better than a chinese or a worn out Russian... JMO. Because their basically newer than most countries....Yes their not chrome lined barrels but than again most barrels are not.... Just don't want what happened to me happen to you.... I cleaned my SKS's by scrubbing bubbles for everything n carb. cleaner but that free floating firing pin started sticking and had a 10 rd. slam fire.... If your bore is still good that rifle will last you a life time.......be well n Keep America Great 👍👍..

I might give one of those spring loaded firing pins a try. For now I make sure to completely disassemble the bolt and clean the pin and all internals before firing(2:36 & 5:39 ). The Yugoslavians sure did know how to take care of their surplus and Im glad they did so I'm able to have one in good condition for my collection. Thanks for watching and your suggestions!

@@MegaBait1616 And that my friend, is why I love firearms collecting. Craftsmanship. These historical collectibles, that we can shoot and enjoy, will outlive me. You sure cant say that for much these days. You'd be lucky to buy a phone at that price and it lasts a few years. Take care.

Very nice I like the worn look. I have one unissued w/ arsenal logbook that stays in the grease and another that had hardly been fired and looks new but I wouldn't mind having one w/ honest wear. For the current market I think you did well.

Picked up Yugo M59 and an "as issued" M59/66A1, with the matching log book, In the cosmoline, at a GS back in 2014. Both came with all accesories. Very cool. Don;t know if you took out the extension rod and spring and the gas shut off valve, as both are cosmo filled and possibly have rust accumulation.

Yep. Detail stripped, cleaned and lubed. The matching log book is a great score. Congrats on that.

Next time.. Scrubbing bubbles (from a can) on the stocks with a nylon brush. Use it outside with a hose. Let the wood dry in the sun. Then lots of boiled linseed oil. Be prepared for the stocks to swell. Put an oversized bore brush (32 cal?) on a cleaning rod and use a drill on a slow speed. The bore will clean up.

Great looking gun. It was funny when your twin said “yeah yeah yeah, what about the bore?’ I’m glad you left that in. But I’m sure he also said “yeah yeah yeah, what about the butt?” Before you found that cigarette butt. That would’ve been funny because you are always so concerned about checking up the butt.
