Ahead of its time by showing a guy who can't communicate appropriately, suppresses his feelings, argues at every turn, and then when proposing marriage the girls is supposed to fall for him and say yes? Definitely behind the times.

Thats not what happens at the musical at all, and just because that’s their story doesn’t mean it’s not ahead of it’s time; it’s a portrayal of the lives of strangers in NYC who influences each other directly or indirectly, if this was a musical or a cabaret about a lovey dovey relationship that isn’t realistic I’d be inclined to agree that it isn’t that ahead. And to counter your point, Claire is actually the one who can’t communicate properly, she still grieves the loss of John that’s why she’s still putting up walls. They both do love each other, but with Claire not disclosing she is still grieving, and Jason keeping pushing to get close (granted he’s under the impression that she’s okay with this), they aren’t properly developing their relationship. Later on, Jason ultimately decides to leave until Claire got influenced by the falling papers (a reminder of the tragedy) who calls Jason and decides to open up about her past, finally accepting John’s passing and agrees to Jason’s proposal. I also don’t get why you’re only throwing shade at Jason as Claire also does the stuff you listed in this song among other songs (Let Things Go and Gotta Get Out). Though I’m not saying Jason isn’t like that or doesn’t have his own faults, it just seems you’re projecting or have internalized misogyny to not see Claire’s fault.

I now will literally die to ensure life for you." Marriage is an endless choice of "this human. again. I choose them again and always will." - and know they're doing the same.

"I love the rain" cracks me up every time. I very much enjoyed the show when I saw it in London, and I think this is my favourite song along with "Favourite Places". Jason is such an adorable character, too, I fell for him right away. Wish I could've seen the orginal cast; judging from the clips they're awesome. Thanks very much for the uploads.

If you liked this, you could check out The Last Five Years by Jason Robert Brown. Very similar musically to this and SOO SO SO good! I suggest watching the movie version with Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan because no one does it like Jeremy Jordan, IMO.

The guy doesn't have enough emotion..very minimal expressions. The girl is a bit better but still lacking something 🤔 keep up tho you have it in you just need more practice.
