If you click the small wrench in the lower left of the bar graph you can click tool's and kits from the menu and no guessing what tools you need to perform alignment. Tell's you what's needed as well as a selection of aftermarket kit's that may make angles, that were locked from the factory, adjustable. Cheers

After you tighten the jam nut it's important to straighten the tie rod, if the tie rod isn't pointed straight it can actually give an inaccurate toe reading which you might not realize until the road test and the steering wheel is crooked. This is especially important on ford vans, if you don't straighten the tie rods before moving on you will be trying to set the toe for hours. Also instead of jouncing the axle every time you can instead move the steering wheel back and forth a few times before centering, this will equalize any rotational movement better than you can do by hand. Good video otherwise

I've been having issues with my toe adjustments and I couldn't understand why. I had the steering wheel straight, but on the test drive it pulled a bunch then when I brought it back to realign it the toe was way off. I had a feeling it was me twisting the tie rod and sure enough your comment clarifies that.

I don’t know if this is correct but they told me to lightly tap the tire from the inside to do little adjustments to make it dead center

See here's what I was told by a tech, I was being super stringent on the toe on a shellfishing tundra (not fun), and he showed me that he lightly pressed the inside of the tire and it adjusted the toe, so thinking realistically, it changes over time and people are unpredictable on their driving habits, so just to get it in the range is good.

I have been jouncing the wrong way, I was only bouncing that corner of the car.

Great information! But why does the customer have to be "picky" to want a straight wheel? I think anyone would want the car to drive straight, when the wheel is straight. If youre spending the money on an alignment, I'd expect it.

Fair point, I guess I would like to explain my primary audience. They are students, most relatively young, mostly working class families... so they are driving a lot of junky vehicles. From their perspective, the car starting and driving is amazing and a semi straight steering wheel would be a minor detail. So I often refer to their future customers as picky to help them understand they are not working on their own hoop-d beater cars. They have to consider the customers expectations rather than their own. But I agree with your point, every car should have a straight steering wheel if we align it. I would expect it as well, but trying to frame it for community College kids to understand is a little tricky. Maybe particular is a better description. Also I bring up what many people pay for the vehicles and what the monthly payments are, combined with the retail alignment cost to help get it to sink in. Anyway, hope you understand it wasn't intended to be a bad thing and wasn't exactly made for the typical KZread audience 😉

This is exactly why I'm watching this video and others like it. Seems as though NO ONE wants to do an alignment perfect as they can these days. NTB technician told me to my face while I'm in front of the machine watching the numbers, my front toe was waaaaay off .13 and .14 and because the steering seemed straight, he said " Nope I'm not touching at anymore, your steering wheel is straight" 😕 Sad thing is I took it to 2 more NTB's and NONE of them know how to properly align. So I got my $149 back.

It's a shame, something so simple but you have mechanics who don't care and don't give a fuck don't do the job right. Techs use cardboard and anything else they can find to wedge in between the sensors to get in the GREEN. Its all about the green, your alignment is good, see its in the green lol.

Green don't mean right. I've had vehicles come in with excessively worn out tires with green specs all around.
