I had the opportunity to train in Yee's Hung Gar in South Plainfield New Jersey, and I can say that it was a great style and a rewarding experience. I wish that you had schools in the Midwest because it is hard to find good Kung Fu out here. Yee's style of Hung Gar is a beautiful and practical style. All of Sifu Frank Yee's instructors are of the highest caliber and skill. I really miss the art and the philosophy.

this is not really similar because of the long range punches and the animal techniques. hung gar uses the five animals tiger, leopard, snake, crane and dragon plus the five elements boxing. we dont kick as much as taekwon do but in my class we kick a little more than most hung schools cause we also use some northern shaolin techniques. we also fight on mostly angles instead of straight line.

so, how does one see these hand and weapon forms as done in the yee style of hung gar? there doesnt seem to be anything but bits and pieces here and there, unlike chiu chi lings fully accessible style. these are historic days for martial arts, no time to hang onto smoke and mirror traditions. thats how things get lost. look forward to seeing some of master yees hung ga

good master and good training, but the only thing I disagree with is the comment on karate using brute force. Not being disrespectful, but if karate was based on brute force, I don't think they would've survived against the samurai. After all karate was supposed to be based on redirecting their punch with either a soft hand block or hard forearm block to also deliver damage to the opponents arms while deflecting since a karatekas arms have to be heavily conditioned.

Best shape of my life, I went 5-6 days a week for 1-2 hours. So that's no wonder. HOWEVER there is almost NO SPARRING. I was there almost 2 years without any sparring. Concepts are not fighting.
