I ran away from home at 17 yrs old & hitched with truckers, because they were the only vehicle that at night I could tell wasn't cops. I was very lucky & had only nice lonely men who were glad for the company, somebody to talk to. They never tried anything, they took care of me, like I was their daughter, fed me & gave me what little money they had when they dropped me off. Made it from Tennessee to Florida. This was in 1983.

It refers to people who don't have family or friends to notice when they have disappeared, or have possibly become a victim of one of these monsters. I was a driver for years, decades in fact. I can testify that there are some great people out there delivering everything we need to keep our lives going. However, there are also some guys that I'd never turn my back on. Guys that gave me the creeps just being around. As mentioned in the video, drug and alcohol usage is also common. The thing about it, even if a guy isn't a predator, isn't always on the hunt, like with other crimes, sometimes people see an opportunity, and strike. Yes, most of us aren't like that, but even if it's 0.01% of people that are, that's scary, as it only takes that one time. Any female that is out there hitchhiking is rolling the dice with every ride they accept.

How many times do we see the most horrible humans imaginable, and their former neighbors described as "quiet, kept to himself, didn't bother anyone, was very helpful, seemed like such a nice guy," and they're talking about a Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer-type. I remember the lady that worked with Bundy at the Suicide Prevention Hotline said she used to have him walk her to her car because they got off work late at night. Thankfully, she wasn't Bundy's type.

When i was in my 20s i went on a road trip and i met an angel driving a big rig in colorado. I was at a truck stop out of gas, i went in the store to get some free hot water and a man out of the blue says are you ok? Like we were literally just passing each other as he left the store and i went in. I said yeah im good, how are you? He said "confused, are you SURE your ok?" I said well i could use some gas. He said pull up to the pump and i did. He filled up my tank checked my oil bought some and added it as needed. And walked off and waved. With out more then two sentences exchanged between us. After he walked off in the direction of a truck, the only vehicle in the back parking lot, i said thank you and he said dont thank me and pointed up. I pulled away from the pump and immediately flipped around to deliberately drive by so i wave one more time, and he was gone. Him and the truck. Theres no way he drove off woth out passing me. I never left the parking lot and i dont think he even had time to reach his truck in the 10 seconds he was out of my direct line of sight, let alone started his truck and drove off. It was the strangest encounter ive ever had in my life. Right there in that moment i knew he was an angel and God is real. He is there. Im not a bible thumper by any means, but that road trip was to clear my head after my mother died and i can easily say i was further from faith in god then i had ever been when i left home, but by the time i made it back there was no doubt in my mond that there is a higher power and he is looking out for me. Im not from a religious family, ive never been to church regularly but i know He is there.

Where I'm from, you lock all doors at every opportunity. House, car, anywhere you're at. Never leave your vehicle unlocked anywhere. When you get into the car, you look it first and start your vehicle. Then I move to a very complacent city. Very little crime happens. I still practice locking doors. Evil can lurk around any corner. There's no suspense music or warnings before it happens. Sometimes, we're fortunate to notice. I'm hyper vigilant because my mom used to terrorize us with the scary things that happened. I find it disturbing for a whole 'nother reason. Back when I was in my early 20's, me and my best pal had been doing a road trip to go camping but got stranded. (before uber) We were at a truck stop discussing our options, and headed outside for a smoke. A hansome trucker called us over and asked if we drove... He said he'd be deighted to give us both a ride. He mentioned he wasn't predujuced (best friend is a gay man of same age with long blonde hair) He threw in that he had some steaks and a way to cook them on the way, and we could party on the way. I got a great big grin on my face, and looked at my friend, whose eyes went glassy...he put his hand on my shoulder....unusually formally and firmly and told me it would be best if we found another way. The guy kept coaxing; but after the warning, I began to get uncomfortabe....geez, he really WANTED to give us that ride....maybe too much. He said we should simply get a room nearby, and he would call his brother for a ride in the morning. I agreed that sounded better, and we told the man thank you, goodbye. When we walked away, my friend looked at me and said. "I love you. I really do." Oh, heck yes we're still friends almost 40 years later. I have to call him and talk to him about this one. And remind him, I still love him, too!

This interview and profile of a women hating loner makes me question my older cousins integrity. I’m not accusing him of anything but he was a trucker for many years, never been married, no kids not even a serious girlfriend I’ve ever heard of. We’ve lost touch for years and got in contact recently and were supposed to meet up . I found out we were both abused as children in different ways. His parents seemed perfect so I had no idea he hated them too and especially his mother. I thought we were bonding and holding on to what family we have left. I was supposed to go visit him , then a series of unfortunate events happened to me right before that and set me back financially to where I couldn’t make the trip happen. He unleashed a deluge of negativity on me for not being able to afford the trip when I was already feeling down. After seeing that side of him, I can’t help but wonder if those recent events happened to me to stop the trip and reuniting with him for some reason. After not talking for years and seeing that side of him I don’t feel safe meeting him now. 🤷‍♀️

I met a trucker on a dating site. I never actually met up in person, but we talked for a year on and off. He told me to Never trust a trucker on the road...if you break down, don't get a ride with them. Call your insurance or someone you know to help. Very scary because I also thought truckers were good people, I'm sure many are, but there's always the creep. You can find many creeps on the dating sites too...

I was young, 19 when I started. looking back, I'm glad I don't work there anymore. One wrong choice and anything could've happened. Even with all the security cameras they have. One thing I can say, is the nice ones stick out in my memory. A lot of them are lonely and work the holidays, missing their family. I learned a lot from them, and met many different types. Like the 60 year old gamer(his gamer tag had something like that in it lol), a super hardcore gamer, kinda famous actually, he was so cool lol. And one time I saw a grown man throw a full on temper tantrum cuz he couldn't return his load locks. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I'm struggling to think of anything else, it was mostly at the CAT scale and register u get the nasty ones. @@heidikirsch9100 I worked a part-time job at a gas station in Europe. Some of the truckers stopping there were just not giving good vibes. They look at you funny, have rough manners, make inappropriate comments and have a bad temper. They often look sweaty and greasy, like they lack social behaviour and hygiene filters. A colleague who worked there for a few years told me many use the "services" of very cheap pr@st1tutes, even ones that have viwes, which is extra bad, because these women were almost homeless, drug addicts and could've been sick. She knew, because the women used to hang around the station and the men would just leave with them. I never saw this personally, the station had a new manager, who put an end to the women being around. One creepy and weird personal incident was a man in his fities (I was 19) who after paying leaned closer to me and said "tonight, keep your hands away from under the blanket". Wth

I slowed down to 35mph in the right lane to let them pass by but they tailed me for miles. It was after 1am or 2am in the morning. Near the end, he mentioned the teenager who was attacked in her home and her parents fought off the intruder. That man was a trucker who killed two women on the road, off of I-81. One in Harrisburg, PA and the other in Ohio, I think. The former, was sitting on her porch on the phone. He slit her throat and kept walking. The husband was almost arrested for the murder. The second woman was alone in her home which was a block away from a Petro truck stop. Her door was open, she was asleep. He killed her and walked back to his truck. Three victims, three states, same man. He is in jail now thanks to the father of the teenager.

Wow.. watching this gives me chills. My abuser / mother’s husband used to molest me for years from 6-12yrs old ( I was not his child. I was my mother oldest and him and my mother had a child together after me) He was a truck driver and would come back after weeks of being away and have this coldness to his eyes and his demeanor. He would do heavier drugs and beat my mother violently ( usually resulting me in trying to protect her at 11) but especially when he’d come back from his long haul trips. He would test how he was inappropriately touch me in front of my mom and more witnesses as if he didn’t care too much to get caught any more... I have always had the worst feelings about him harming others and though they are assumptions (though my abuse was not ), remembering how he was once he came back from those week long trips as an adult now scares the life out of me. I ran away from home at 14 and have nothing to do with him or my mother or that family but he was definitely a chilling person. I can’t imagine what he was doing out on those roads…. He was definitely Someone who would leave an uncomfortable, cold and eerie feeling / impression. I’m not saying EVERY driver is a potential killer, I’ve met amazing truckers who have such genuine intentions but I am saying being isolated and traveling through late night and different states can definitely make harming people easier, killings easier to hide and do, it’s just so sad. My heart goes out to all those families who have to bury their loved ones, to the families that have never found their loved ones and is still out there looking. Those people don’t deserve to go through these things …

I hitchhiked America alone as a female for 15 years. I’ve Had aleast over 100 rides from truckers. I Never was a treated poorly I did have a few situations of where I knew I needed to get out asap. Trucker vibe was off or they clearly was on drugs. And I was propositioned a handful of times but I declined and they dropped the subject. I’ve seen hundreds of lot lizards at the airport on wheels that are truck stops. To each their own but I would never sell my body for anything or anyone. I’ve seen women beat and shot in braids daylight. I’ve seen a lot. It’s pretty heartbreaking now when I look back on it. Luckily The majority of my rides were just lonely people and wanted someone to talk too and they all thought I was insane for traveling alone as a woman. Guess I’m just lucky idk my heart goes out to all the families of the woman whose lives were lost.

There is the saying, "There but for the grace of God go I." You may feel that you'd never sell your body for anything or anyone, but there are so many circumstances that can lead to that life, you have no way of knowing. And considering this podcast is really talking about trafficked victims, if you were one of them, you'd have absolutely no choice unless you wanted to take a beating that might end your life. The vast majority of these women are victims and aren't out there on their own, choosing that life. You mention that you had a few situations that you knew to get out asap. Well, imagine your sense being off because you're doing drugs to numb the fact that you have to do that job in the first place. These women drink and shoot up to cope. They don't have the acuity that you did to know to get out. So, they pay with their lives. There but for the grace of God. You were very lucky and still have the fortune that you have never had to go where these women have and do. It's not all truck drivers, but hearing the number of suspects? Sounds like a respectable number are nefarious.

Its true about the link between serial killers and interstate freeways. The I-5 freeway corridor that shoots north to south on the west coast of the US has been used by many infamous serial killers, the Golden State Killer for one, and Ted Bundy. Before traffic cams and CCTV at gas stations, these people would more easily slip into town and back out without notice unless there happened to be a witness that took note of a certain vehicle at a certain time. Nowadays, I'm surprised that drivers manage to evade notice, especially truck drivers, who have dispatch and computer-GPS and other tracking devices in their trucks, and lots of traffic cams to watch them.

We are. They don't have the man power to search us all and even passed that a lot of us know how to avoid that because we're targeted enough so they can generate revenue. They aren't worried about solving crimes anyway, they're more concerned with extorting us. This job is already like being in a prison cell on wheels and that goes for a majority of the jobs out there.

@@JaquelineGoodspeedwe are ALL subject to inspections. We can be pulled over at any time and then there's weight stations where we can be pulled aside and inspected. Like the other person said there's not enough manpower or time for every truck to be randomly inspected multiple times a year. The trucking industry is already on a serious time crunch for meeting delivery times it wouldn't work every industry would lobby against it because they need their products on the shelf in time. i am so sorry to the victims and families that lost their loved ones to these disgusting murderers I do hope we could come up with some type of compromise that's realistic

Did he say 25 long haul truckers are in custody for multiple murders? Wow that's a video all by itself. I'm not much of a reader these days, way to busy, but if I can find his book on tape I would definitely look into buying it just so I can hear about those 25 cases.

Congratulations for this AMAZING interview Mrs. Garcia...extraordinary guest and such and incredible insight of what is going on in the US with certain drivers...astonishing and terribly frightening...also we must not forget the outstanding work that is been done behind, to help the victims...I wonder if this happens here in Europe or they keep it "hush hush"...this has been one of my favorite interviews.

I met a person while living in the Cascade mountains in Washington State that told me of the time he was hitch hiking during the time Ted Bundy was on his streak of serial killing and Ted picked him up and began telling this person I met about him being with the government and the guy remembered the smell and the layout of Ted' s Volkswagen buggy this guy was lucky and he was only 17 at the time.

About 3 years ago I was traveling from PA to NC. I am in my 70s. My car full of food because of it being cheaper in PA. My last stop in NC, still daylight, to get gas at truck stop/convenience store was about 2 hours from home. Once home, after unloading my car I got a feeling that I was watched at the truck stop and someone wanted to follow me home but decided not to. My feeling like this are usually correct. I even check and look around when food shopping. I try to park next to the building near the door. One of the problems I find is you cannot see who is in their car watching because tinted windows being so dark.

a lot of times the killers are the ones you never would have expected. example Ted Bundy. they get away with it because their victims trust them. they are very charismatic and can easily convince victims to come with them. of course their are disgusting blobs that are and absolutely look the part too. KEEP YOUR HEAD ON A SWIVEL STAY SAFE

I'm just surprised this is getting some slight attention. It doesn't take a Sherlock Holmes to make the connection. We have known this for years. And with the NHTSA not requiring English to get a CDL and the thousands and thousands of illegal aliens (no CDL) driving trucks the problem will get worse. The flood of illegal immigrants will have a very long lasting negative impact on our country.

She's unbiased and collected, yet extremely compassionate towards victims and their families. Just an amazing reporter and interviewer!!

He mentioned Toledo several times. Last year, I stayed at an inexpensive hotel right off the Ohio Turnpike outside Toledo, near logistics terminals and warehouses. I saw evidence of human trafficking and discreetly notified the police. They responded promptly but I didn’t want to attract attention by seeming too curious about the outcome. Incidentally, if you suspect human trafficking at a hotel you are staying at, I recommend you do not notify the front desk - call 911 directly and not from your hotel room phone. In some cases, hotel staff are complicit in this activity, and if you report it to the front desk, you may expect retaliation.
