“Underutilized” so true. You’ve made me step up my landscape mode game. Watched video this morning while making coffee. Went out to use landscape more. 6 walleyes for a limit of 4 and 2 perch in about a half hour. Good stuff. Thanks

Landscape Mode is all I use... when trolling for Stripers in freshwater lakes as well as fishing Bluegill Beds. It's an awesome tool!

If you are fishing Stripers, I assume you have to be in deep water. How do you manage the limited vertical range of Landscape mode? Thanks.

@mcconn746 when trolling for Stripers, I'm only interested in the water column, and I can easily see the fish at Depths down to 60 feet deep and over 100 feet behind the boat. The key is to have the angle of the transducer set appropriately for the depth of the fish (and your Lures are running). That depth can be determined through 2D or DI. In my case, I have my Mega Live pointed aft watching the fish reactions to my trailing lures, which are typically between 17 and 30 feet deep. The other key is to use the Down Mode view on your Helix/Solix/Apex rather than the Landscape view. The Down Mode view does a much better job of seeing fish in the water column. Yes, the Mega Live Transducer is physically in Landscape Mode, but I'm using the Down View to display it... it works great and is a better representation of what is going on behind the boat. I have tutorials on KZread, and my channel is SLYDoggieTN if you want to dive into it more.

Great content. Love the detailed explanation. Are you aware of any documentation that shows the angle of the beam through the water column? I suspect their is a sweet spot (distance from the boat) where the beam is covering a larger percentage of the water column?

Used landscape mode just at the end of the 2023 season and after being off the water for the winter I really needed to look at this again as a refresher on the best setting for my transducer to get optimal viewing clarity. Now I need to become better at setting up the vertical settings and I'll be ready for the 24. Great reference, material.

This explanation of the transducer is exactly what Im looking for. I fish for musky, and looking for real time imaging, that show my lure and the fish. Where I am confused is, about the transducer on the TM. If I put the transducer out at a 90 , will that give me real time imaging, and not be affected alot by the TM moving, or using this in the spot lock mode?. (What Im trying to avoid is my image "zig zagging" in and out as I go along the shore line, I realize it will probaby move some, but that is what Im looking for. Will side imaging or deep imaging help? I will be upgrading my TM to a Ultrex Quest, and will have a Hummingbird 9 on the bow, and a 7 on the console. Thanks, and loved this detailed video!

Excellent detail presentation, do you think that landscape mode is just as effective or better than foward facing sonar. And do you think that a lot of professional and youtube anglers promote foward facing but are really using landscape? Landscape mode look very interesting compared to the beam coverage between foward and landscape.

Thanks for the feedback. Every mode has pluses and minuses. The big plus for landscape is coverage area. Minuses are optimum depth range (very limited coverage in water deeper than 15 ft) and lure tracking. In shallow water, 10-12 ft or less, it’s hard to beat landscape IMO. Deeper water or when you want to track the lure, then forward is a better choice.

I am confused...as usual. We fish for crappie in Lake Lanier which is deep water. They are often in 20' - 30' water. They sometimes move up and down the column but they are often shallow or deep. Can you set the vertical range of Landscape mode to focus shallow or deep? Thanks.

Thanks! To confirm, the trolling motor heading sensor with i-Pilot Link cannot be used to enable the direction of the landscape scanner on the Solix. It has to be the external GPS with Heading Sensor? I reconfigured and it looks like waypoints are working but I can’t get that icon in the top right like you have. I also have selected the “boat icon” as being enabled under the mega live view too.

If you’re on a Solix. Go to your GPS and it should tell you where it is getting the signal for each GPS configuration. It’ll share what each configuration is used for. In the top right of your Solix when in the Mega Live view there is “Live” your ping “gps 1” or the respective number. Hope that helps
