he original band line-up featured lead vocalist and guitarist Steve Marriott from Small Faces, vocalist and guitarist Peter Frampton from The Herd, former Spooky Tooth bassist Greg Ridley and a 17-year-old drummer, Jerry Shirley, from The Apostolic Intervention. Peter Frampton of course went on to a single career. Humble Pie also did the "I Don't Need No Doctor" that Beth Hart covers. Thanks for reacting to them, they were great.

Watching your reactions to Steve Marriot's BEST performance is pure joy to me. Your appreciation for the blues and for the power and depth of his voice gives me hope that Humble Pie's music will never lose its appeal. I met him 2 nights in his hotel rooms in 1972 when he was touring the Midwest. My friend at school had been a DJ in St. Louis while in high school and had interviewed him on the air - LIVE. My friend insisted that three of us go see Humble Pie's concerts during that week - a short drive from our university to Louisville, Cincinatti and St. Louis. Steve Marriott was as engaging in person as he was mesmerizing on stage. Looking back over these 50 years and hearing his voice, I realize that I have always measured every blues musician against Marriott. Very few musicians have ever been his equal in terms of guitar magic, harmonica finesse, and his raw and emotional voice. You noticed it too. It is my hope that you will continue to remember his music and come back to it again time after time.

Got to see them in 71. They gave a free concert, along with Grand Funk Railroad, in Schweinfurt, Germany for the GI’s stationed there. Unforgettable!

After Mick Taylor left The Stones Keith recommended Steve as a replacement. After his audition The Prissy One made it clear he wouldn't be a member of the band. He knew he was outclassed a s a singer, not to mention sheer charisma. The band would've been Steve's in a year. Also, as a child actor he was very handsome as well. Jagger looked like Barney Fife.

Saw Humble Pie's final concert before they broke up. '75 at Winterland in San Francisco. We were at the stage, leaning against it. Weird story… Steve Marriott, by 75 was a serious cokehead. Even wore a coke spoon around his neck that night. Anyway… when the roadies came out to set up, they rolled out a huge thick plastic tarp. When they unrolled it it stunk of high heaven. Then they put up all the Marshalls, drum kit and mics. Did not take long to figure out what the tarp was for… Steve Marriot spit, constantly. We were so loaded it did not bother us since he was spitting on stage and not out. P.S. Late in the show he got hit in the head by a Michelob bottle that was thrown from the upper deck. We heard the THUNK over the music and the bottle landed right in front of us on the stage. He stepped back from the mic, shook his head, and came back and continued. He was so high it hardly phased him.

new subscriber here. EXCELLENT> Humble Pie were so underrated....Marriot was one KILLER and highly respected vocalist both in this band and in the Small Faces. This is one of their bigger (if not only) hits. The album this comes from is called SMOKIN' ....and it's a perfect title. just kicks ass start to finish!! the whole thing should be listened to (but if you had to pick just a few i'd say 'Hot n Nasty' and 'You're so good for me'. also....this band pretty much launched the career of Peter Frampton (he had left the band right before this album). for a good example of his incredble playing check out the live Pie album 'ROckin the Fillmore'.....'I'm Read', 'Four Day Creep', 'I don't need no Doctor'

"You're So Good for Me" is my absolute favorite Pie song. Beautiful duet with Gregs lower gravelly voice and Steve's higher tones soaring over the top - Sublime. From that album ,which I absolutely wore out when I was in High school, I also love "Hot and Nasty" and "I Wonder". Also wore out Rockin the Fillmore!

@@cindyfalstrom7231 absolutely!! i love when they trade off vocals. and the chorus is just so...i dunno...joyous? Incredible song. Incredible album. I still play it recularly. A top 10 album for me. Not a bad song on it. and... 'i wonder'....when people ask 'best guitar solos'....i often mention that song. Clem KILLS it. and what can one say about Rockin the Fillmore. that was my introduction to the Pie (via my older brother's record collection). fantastic stuff. I think they never quite got their due...
