    My old mom had one for years right up to the mid 70’s when she traded it in for a new Mercedes . Nothing compares to the old Roots quality of the Hunbers

    She's a beauty. The Humber Super Snipe was a regal, stately car driven by managers, professionals and government officials. You're getting a really nice motor, can't wait to see a drive test.

    The Super Snipe for me will always be indissociable with the early 60s cop series in the UK. I think one of the higher ranking officers in No Hiding Place was driven around in one.

    Nice doggies. And the paint on that green Vauxhall is positively ethereal.

    I always admire antique classical cars and deeply taken care of because many people today does realize money was more harder to aquire in those days even this was cheaper. Take care Paul because someone is watching this car for far away..

    There is a company in England that re-laminates the wood trim for cars.Saw it on a show called 'Wheeler Dealers',cost effective and first class results when done.

    Fortunately I was able to source the three pieces of wood, across the back of the seat, with good veneer that I am working on to re varnish.

    My dad had one of these here in England in 1960. It was a 3 speed with O/D and there were 7 of us to fit in which we did just fine. I always wanted one and in 1970 I got an automatic which I kept for a couple of years before more or less giving it away due to rust and more rust. Neither of them had power steering but I don't remember them being hard to steer. I've seen a few in scrapyards in Australia a few years back on the way from the Blue Mountains to Adelaide via Broken Hill.

    That car is amazing Paul. What a great find. So original and everything intact. You already know more about it than most owners would know in a lifetime. Seems the mileage is genuine looking at the condition….particularly original carpets. Seatbelts good idea. Will look smart with red ones if you can get a similar red. The gear selection is exactly the same as the Austin 3 litre. Also the BW35. It took a bit of courage to pull her back to L when doing a decent speed, but it works to get her to hold 2 nd. It looks very regal in black. The 3 L came from Rockhampton and was already starting the show the signs of chrome pitting and surface rust. Amazing it survived so well. The Austin is a dog on hills so your engine more efficient I reckon. Thanks for video.

    Thanks Peter. The more I look at her the more convinced I am that she is a very low mileage car. No way all the vinyl and wood would have survived 50 years of FNQ sunlight. I found a QLD personal plate from from 2017 which gives no details of the plates or the then owner but does reference my car’s chassis number so I know the paperwork does relate. The engine is actually very modern with it’s twin stromberg carbys and cross flow head as well as square proportions, it was (I understand) a joint effort with Armstrong Siddeley. I had my fingers and toes crossed when I selected Low to descend the hill but all was fine and it worked perfectly.

    My first car was a 1947 Hillman Minx convertible. My second was a 1937 Humber 18hp, one owner in even better condition than this. I have owned some very nice cars over the years, but these two are fondly missed.

    Wow, you certainly found a real asset with this car, am very jealous! Imagine a black car in Cairns though, hence probably why it didn’t seem to go out much. I was hoping you’d mention the Chrysler pentastar badge on the front passenger wheel arch, to signify it was put together by Chrysler Australia. I’ve seen them on the drivers side as well. Also, on the front bumper, is that the blank where the crank handle would have gone? Could you have crank started it, being a late model car? 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️ Anyway, look forward to seeing a road test video in here, if you do one. Thanks

  • @paulscountrygarage9180

    @paulscountrygarage9180

    4 ай бұрын

    Thanks Garry. I thought I did mention the pentastar, but then, I don’t script my videos so I tend to forget or change what I am going to say. Whilst there is the plug in the front bumper, for the crank, and the end of the crankshaft has the fitting to accept the crank handle the Australian cars have a solid radiator with no hole for the crank handle to pass through. I do plan to do a test drive video but she is, currently, at the doctors having her brakes overhauled.

    GREAT CAR... GREAT VIDEO TX! Please think twice before removing dashboard... old wooden dashes can (and do!) delaminate (i.e. fall to bits) when disturbed... also the dash tops get brittle (even when they don't look so) and disintegrate under removal. Yes, I have fallen foul of this mistake, but had no choice. Next video pls show more of engine bay! Your wheels look black... all Humber UK were apparently cream, but I believe overseas orders were colour matched; my two (black) South African '63 Super Snipes (one a donor car, no longer exists) were fitted black as original, and my (silver/black vinyl top) Rhodesian '66 Imperial has silver wheels (now refinished, same silver). P. S. love your dogs, I had 3 Whippetts (love of my life!) but alas... long time ago. Cheers!

    @@Alexsassets yep, when I collected the car, from the Northern Beaches area of Sydney, I drove 3 hours west (over the Blue Mountains) I then had to drop down Scenic Hill into Lithgow so I locked it into second to provide engine braking. Works well.

    All those minor blemishes, show a car with character and history. You can devalue it by over renovating. These old Humbers were quality cars favored by the British government. Change the oil every year regardless of milage, keep it well serviced and greased and she will provide stirling fun andreliabilty. She is a beaut11
